- In this episode: Basel, Switzerland to Montbeliard, France.
This was the bucket list item I never knew I had: Cruising through the inland waterways of France on a gorgeous sailboat. We navigate locks, rivers, and narrow canals -- all on board our beautiful (and newly restored!!) Vindo 32 sailboat. This video shows you some of the beautiful scenery we've encountered, as well as telling you about how locks work.

Hello dear viewers! It's so nice to see this video get a sudden resurgence of views, considering it's a few years old, and was made back in the days when I knew very little about filmmaking! I wanted to let you all know that Aladino and I have actually started a brand NEW river journey through France, this time in an effort to get North. It will be turned into quite a well documented series, which you can follow along here if you wish! New episodes will be added to this playlist as they're published. czcams.com/play/PLixt_4jBlVZwTZe0DTLaLS4CphvNwz1mp.html
just found you. literally, today. and I enjoy your video very much.
With the current situation of isolation's taking place, immersing ourselves in the picturesque countryside as well as the soothing tone of your lovely narration gives such peaceful vibes, thank you x
I found the series North thru the contenannt first. And then found the beginning of your story. I saw in the last video that you had your cell phone tucked into the top of your tank top. I’ve heard this is not a healthy place to store it. Young women have be found to have breast cancer from this habit of storage. The new smart phone are very powerful. Be well. Love your music listening on Spotify. Thank for sharing it. Wishing you and Aladino and long and happy sailing lifestyle.
@@gaylarice6124 it's fine, I use the phone as a microphone when I'm talking to the camera and it's in airplane mode.
You are a natural at storytelling and making videos. You are very good and love your violin music.
OMG, your playing while cruising through the French canals. Dreams are made of this.
And an accomplished violinist, no less! You two are like a classic young European couple from a more genteel era, like the brief respite between the two World Wars...
Jack Rabbit this is my favourite comment ever
I agree completely !
I was trying to find the words to describe exactly what you just said... Couldn't agree more. Beautiful sailing channel
skizzy smith that Hot club du France violin melody 🎻🥰
Best part is when you play that sweet little tune in the bow of your boat!! More of that pls ;-)
I could very easily fall in love with the girl playing the violin. Great video. Michael
OUTSTANDING !! Thank you, really enjoying your journey on Magic Carpet. My own boat is a Cavalier 32 built in New Zealand circa 1975. Fair winds 👍🇦🇺
Beautiful, especially with violin playing Autumn Leaves! Thanks for sharing!
I wasn’t aware France had such an extensive canal system. That looks like it’d be an amazing journey to take. Your audio levels are nicely done as well, and you obviously know your music as the selections always seem to fit the setting.
It was a truly amazing journey, I feel so lucky we got to do this! And thanks so much for your kind comments regarding the audio. Choosing the music is one of my favourite parts of every episode :)
France has over 5000kms of navigable rivers and canals. One of the largest civil work is being built. A canal connecting Holland and Belgium to Paris. It will remove 1million trucks/year from the roads.
Thank you for showing us a complete other side of sailing life. I like it a lot.
Autumn Leaves! Perfect Jazz song! You wonderful sailors! Just started watching tonight. I lived in St. Augustine, Florida on my 1971 Irwin sailboat until the recent hurricanes. Back on Lake Erie by Put in Bay and Marblehead area. Just bought a 22ft Catalina. Have to be on the water.
Autumn leaves, felt like I had died and gone to sailboat heaven what a truly beautiful moment.
OldMan Mick Awww, thank you 🐬💙

How lovely!!
Thanks for sharing!
What incredible footage! I'm loving following along on your journey, and how wonderful it is that you will have these memories recorded to look back on for years and years to come. That shot of you playing your violin with the heron was so beautiful and peaceful. Sending you love (as if you need any extra)!
Ava Mundy ahhh Ava, so glad you watched, and thank you for this lovely comment!! Much love to you 💙💙
Exactly what Ava said - beautiful footage and your violin playing was so perfect for that scene! I'm hooked!! And subscribed, and loving your journey which I only stumbled cross last night, more episodes coming up! Thank you for sharing your amazing journey :-)
The wonderful part of the video when you play the instrument while the magic carpet sliding softly in the canals Wawwwwwwww amazing it's kind of a dream. Très beau. Bravooooo
What a beautiful and well-kept Vindö. Lovely.
I just saw the story behind it (Ep 1 and 2). That was a good job. I hope she will bring you many happy moments.
It's beautiful. The effect is almost like looking back through time at a simpler time. I often get the same feeling when watching my great uncle's super 8 videos we have of nearly every family reunion and vacation when he was alive. I love your music selection also. As a trumpet player, I've really enjoyed the score.
This was a beautiful video of a beautiful boat going through a beautiful landscape. Thank you.
I enjoy many sailing channels. But yours is exquisite... interesting, creative and calmly entertaining... kudos to you both for the great content and for sharing your adventure with us. All the best... Dave.
David Klenosky Wow this comment got me smiling!! Thanks so much Dave :)
WHAT a beautiful serenade !!!!!!
Ok watching you guys again from the $1 boat onwards, loving it!
Wow, I loved the wonderful Autumn Leaves theme. Hugs from Brazil ....
congratulations : very romantic trip; that what i call living live.
My favorite. Music so far is your song, a big fan of violin, and fiddle
Autumn leaves, charming
What a great choice of musical accompaniment! l loved it!
J'adore la francais...I also adore that violin playing...gorgeous.
What lovely canals. I did a trip in the north east French canals , mainly built by Napoleon and standardized , but we found the canals were built outside a lot of the towns making some of the stops in almost no where! But the locks were almost all semi-automatic. I sailed the Dutch canal many times and they are so old the towns are built around the canal so you stop in the middle of towns , wonderful. I love canals,
Your sound is so good you must really know what you a doing! Cheers Warren
The song you played on the violin while motoring through the locks made me cry it was so beautiful.
Maya and Aladino, I am binge watching this weekend to catch up. Enjoying all of it. This episode brought me happy tears listening to you play your violin. It immediately brought me to a moment in my Grandparents home, listening to my Grandfather play. Beautiful. Thank You, Bill :-)
Hi Bill -- I'm SO GLAD that you're watching all of our videos! That's amazing!! Thank you so much! I'm also really happy that the music means something to you, and can bring you back to a special time in your life. Music is amazing in how it can do that. Thanks so much for commenting and letting us know you're watching.
Great performance of "autumn leaves" at 5:29
The staircase of locks that you mention is called a flight of locks. I know someone has already told you this, but the notion of a flight of locks is so evocative, I couldn't resist.
Thanks for inspiring us!
I love the segment of you playing the violin on the bow, beautiful. Thank you for a great video!
Thanks so much! If you keep following along there will be a lot more violin playing to come hehe :)
Heron wasn't into the music.
Just wow -- amazed -- nothing like other sailing videos :)

Not only a beautiful couple, but excellent music from a fellow musician.
Yeah, and one of the main reasons why I prefer monohulls over multihulls.....canal cruising. Lovely videos, lovely boat....bon chance!
Loved the footage. I really have been wanting to see some videos from these gorgeous canals for quite some time now.
After joining around Sicily, I have started watching your and Aladino's adventures from the start. It was especially nice in this episode to hear your beautiful rendition of Autumn Leaves as I have just uploaded my humble version to my channel.

not only beautiful but talented as well
Amazing to the point of tears..
I can see that you have a Vindö sailing boat. I have for more Then 20 years being a happy owner of a Vindö 50 ketch sailing around in the Baltic sea and in the Swedish archipelagos. She is now sold to a Dane, but it was a Happy Ship, and I have lots of great memories from the time spent with her.
Great views love the music x
Fantastic. Well done!
Wonderful
I love the sailboats slip thru the water with barely disturbing the water! A lot better weather than in the British canals.
Hello there incredible beautiful n interesting very nice scenery
good camera work thanks
Thank you for sharing your video cheers take care see you soon
Like a slow motion Stephan Grapelli. The only thing missing was a mandolin part. Beautifully done.
I appreciate your including music with your videos. I too would like to experiment with it... but of course, I'm a beginner. it makes the production very pleasant and refreshing.
Fun to see a sailboat in a Canal like that. We will also be passing through a Canal but never as narrow as you did. 👍🏻 from Canada
Chapeau‼️
