Unfortunately, Idyllwild is now so over run with tourists that a lot of us locals have to stay home and cannot enjoy the local activities anymore.
Without the tourists the town wouldn’t be flourishing as much as it is now. Growth is always a good thing for the local economy.
@ValentineRealEstate So the locals wants and needs don't count for anything? Who do you think supports the local businesses day in and day out and puts on all the events that the tourists now flock to? I had a shop up here for 10 years and I can tell you that the tourists were not the ones who supported me. They were always "just looking". And what happens when we run out of water? Locals are constantly in various stages of drought and water conservation. We have to watch every drop we use in our homes and many times we can't even water our gardens, but it is ok to invite thousands of people up here to use up what little water there is? How much water do you think that new bathroom is going to use? That is all water that the locals cannot use now. Sometimes it isn't all about what the real estate agents or the tourists want. It's about what is good for the area and its environmental limitations.
The public bathrooms are open now also. Huge accomplishemnt for Idyllwild, along with repaving and tree preservation.

Often overlooked businesses are Art Dept and Mountain Pottery because it’s tucked away. They have some unique products and classes worth checking out.
