I saw Rec Tec's Facebook post about having a scratch and dent sale of their pellet smokers so I took a trip to Augusta, GA for the sale to get a pellet grill!

You did the right thing ! You got those goodies PLUS the upgraded 680 grill. I love my RecTec. No question I would buy another one if I wear mine out. Good on RecTec for taking care of you guys making the trip !!
i may buy one of these. Trying to decide on either this or the Yoder. However just because I was born in Augusta, Ga. I might have to support my homeboys. It was a nice video. The drive down had me homesick. LOL
Yeah,I know what you mean. I miss it to,been missing the fishing at clark hill/Thurmond lake. I think I'm going to go visit soon. Loved it but didn't like the hellish heat.

I was there on that cold morning, and was a little bummed that so many people showed up and scooped up the good deals before i got called. I wound up getting a great deal on some more pellets.
Looks like you got a smokin' deal! I have a 14.5" WSM and can't get enough of it. If I do invest in a pellet smoker the Rec Tec will be my choice. Have fun, be safe, enjoy!

I have done a 12lb smoke turkey on it and my wife was amazed by the flavor and she NEVER like smoked turkey before!

I've been looking at pellet grills for some time, but for $1000, I don't want something made in China. For a little more you can get something that's made in the U.S.A. that will probably last decades longer. The Yoder, the Fast Eddy's Cook Shack, and the Mac have been on my list of contenders. The RecTec does great on Amazon reviews, but how do they look after a decade? They also don't do much for searing besides give you char marks, which isn't what I'm after.

I'm not sure they have been on the market for a decade. I've owned mine for about 5 years and it still looks and performs great! As with anything, the way you care for it will determine its future. That being said, mine is kept in an outdoor storage as opposed to exposed to the elements. I don't care if you use a cover, it will falter. I figured if I spent $1000 on a cooker I'm not going to depend on the $60 cover to protect it. If you fail to regularly wipe it down while cooking the finish will eventually give in. If you fail to regularly clean out the burn pot, drip tray & grill grates the smoker will fail to perform over time. My neighbor has a YS400 and he's had to replace the ignitor rod, auger and grate. I think because he didn't care for it right. Leaving it out all seasons, locking the auger up by having pellets that got wet in the hopper from condensation & rusty grates from not cleaning after cooking...waste of $700 if u ask me.

Yup. We had to run it at 400 for an hour or so to burn the manufacturing crap out of it. Then cooked some bacon to season the inside and then I cooked some burgers so we had burgers. I just uploaded a salmon video that I made yesterday.
I can't believe thy found a cold day this march , didn't see anyone I knew in the video !

For those of us that took the time to drive all the way to Rec Tec for the sale and didn't get a used grill or preferred a new one were given this deal. We pay the full price of $998.00 for a new Rec Tec RT-680 (or $499.00 for a Mini RT-300) and we get these add on items free. A Spice and Sauce bundle $64.99 (6 rubs and 2 sauces), 200 LB of pellets ($198.00 price of 5 bags shipped or $100.00 for 5 bags picked up there), and a choice of either a grill cover $79.95 or a Stainless steel front folding shelf $98.95. For me it was $998.00 -$64.99 -$98.95 -$100.00 =$734.06.
Thanks for sharing your smoker adventure! It felt like my wife & I were on the trip with you. We've had many of those types of trips ourselves. Looking to buy the Bull 700 in a couple of weeks. Made in the USA!!!!!
