my first thoughts too about the difficulty for the Church of the Community of Christ to sell these precious properties. I don’t see this purchase as a WIN like conquering “more truth”. like you said it so beautifully, The Church is now a new steward over these properties. The truth and good will of a church is not defined what is owned, possessed or controlled or whatever power it may have over “things”… by any church or persons.

I truly want to meet you since you must be the only perfect PURE mortal to walk the earth.
The LDS church does not FORCE people to do or not do anything. Each of us has our own choices to make, and there is pure evil everywhere.
Just because you have made an erroneous opinion based on unfortunate experiences with the Church doesn't give you Carte Blanche to take your incredibly broad brush and label an entire group of people.
In 1962, the Church was on the brink of bankruptcy. They brought folks in that made them adhere to a strict budget, be frugal in all they do, and make wise investments to make the Lord's money grow.
If you would like to forfeit any and ALL things that have meaning to you or your loved ones, please be my guest. But when ANY religious organization has the funds, and chooses to purchase buildings and items that hold a significant part of their history, they have every right.

I left linkedin because of endless meaningless quotations and citations by the majority of others seemingly more important people. And so I ask anyone always referring to the Bible as supporting or refuting anything, Do you not have anything ORIGINAL to say that comes from God to you directly? What is the Bible, or actually what are SCRIPTURES? God has spoken to men and these stories and experiences and instructions have then been recorded? Has God stopped talking to men? Does not God speak to all and anyone of us? Sure prophets receive instructions from God that they direct us with. He is your father in heaven. so is the Bible, The Word dead? Has God seized to speak? What does the Bible do or say? Is “refuting” something saying something? hope this is seen as education about God’s Living Words.

Proof? I know that the Korean version of the Bible has totally omitted verses that they do not have an equivalent word to use in their translation.
From Hebrew to Greek and on down the line portions of the original manuscript have been set aside, or ignored altogether. A council of MEN made decisions for the entire Christian community in Nicea about 300 AD. Many of those interpretations are even contrary to Bible scripture.

Did you know the community of christ who owned it was in the hole over 100,000,000 in pensions owed???? that's partly why it was sold. There were other buyers wanting it, that's why the high cost. That sale now helps that church get sorted out on their financial woes so they can better outreach their mission around the world. They were needing for money for a long time now; though I'm sure this is the last property they wanted to give up that they owned. This wipes out all of that in one go.
They also sold precious documents worth more than any priceless book montitarily sold before it as well as some other historic buildings that can continue to be loved by many visitors in the future. That's the rest of the money spent and they had to be fairly compensated for their good stewardship thus far for it and the priceless nature of the artifacts sold.
It was a well worth trade in my opinion as now the community of christ church can focus on Christ and their outreach for good rather than their byond empty pockets. Now its up to them to keep it that way and do good with it.
Their are always reasons behind stuff that happens... try doing some investigative work before you assume next time because you hold a grudge against others having large sums of money. ;D
