In my area, there’s a police head quarters with a place in the parking lot that is meant to do safe exchanges of goods and cash. Glad you made it out of the situation safely. I don't think Bitcoin was really being mined on GPUs at that point. It's been mined on specialized ASIC hardware for a long time, which makes GPU mining of BTC obsolete. Graphics cards were used to mine other cryptocurrencies like Ethereum.
