For real. I swear , most gun smithing places are more like regular gun stores that happen to sell some common gun parts than actual repairmen . I brought a 1950’s police s&w in because the hammer wasn’t hitting the bullets hard enough to fire reliably, and after 5 minutes of inspection the guys just said they won’t bother and that the gun was just “ too old to fix “ , so I just ordered myself new spring and hammer snd installed it myself and the gun was like brand new . No idea how these stupid bastards keep their stores with such poor business models .
@@tabcreedence6553 Yes it had liege marks. I've done some research on these underlever doubles and it's very hard to find a manufacturer. I recently bought a JC Higgins model 50 chambered in .270 Win in good condition at a pawn shop that had been for sale for a year and a half. I asked the woman, why it had been there so long and she said, "because people don't know what it is." The barrel says Sears and Roebuck Co. Well, it turns out it is built on a Belgian made, FN commercial Mauser 98 action, with a chrome lined High Standard barrel and a Weaver 4x scope. I talked them down to $368 +tax for it. It would cost $1400 to build this rifle today.
My dad got a JC Higgins Model 20 as part of a collection he bought from a neighbor widow. When he gave the guns to me to clean, the Model 20 was completely seized up and the action would not open. When I gave the guns back, it would literally drop open simply by pointing the muzzle at the ceiling and pushing the slide release.

The J.C. Higgins Shotgun Series is a branded commercial shotgun, manufactured by High Standard Arms under contract for the department store chain Sears & Roebuck. J.C. Higgins was specifically a Sears firearms line and was sold in its stores and through its catalog for many years.
I inherited a model 20 along with a couple other guns from my grandad. They haven't been shot in over a decade since I have no idea how to properly clean them.
I've got two of those model 20s. One with power pack. Other one was grand dad's basic truck gun. I broke a pump arm once at a skeet shoot and found a pile of parts on eBay for $75. Good to go for a long time. Great bang bangs
We obviously are elderly. I am. I never considered or imagined having someone else clean my firearms. The smells of solvent and oil will accompany me to the afterlife. I chuckle to myself when I see the sign at Jimmy Johns about free smells
- I understand about 50% - 1) J.C. Higgins was a "brand name" at either Sears or Montgomery Ward dept. stores ( like Craftsman WAS, at Sears). In late 1950s, a whole lotta kids had "J.C. Higgins" bicycles. - I reason, then, that it's a "cheap", Dept store shotgun. **Comment above states the manufacturer, and model, that it, actually, was a good gun. 2) Why a guy needs a gun shop, just to clean gun - is a mystery to me. I do see what looks like some wear, or oxidation of the "bluing" (short view of side, when he hands the gun over counter ). 3) I got no idea, when he asks,"Is that a YEET ( I think) can, over there ?" - First, I had no idea what "yeet" is, but read reply above, and recall that YEET has something to do with "throwing ordnance" - GRENADES. (See other comments ) Reading a few other comments is interesting, but that's all I got, on this video... ( Maybe it's a gag - why would a gun shop turn- away business ? I can only guess about the "YEET" ?? etc., etc.) - Mark T, Michigan
@@doncook3584Do you know anything else about this, is it a gag, or what ? Do I remember, that J.C.Higgins ( like bicycles ) was a brand- name for either Sears, or Montgomery Ward, dept. store ? - Why the hell would a gun shop turn- away business, even just a cleaning ?
@@doncook3584- THANKS for your reply. I wasn't being cynical, or antagonistic, just trying to understand this. I have only one shotgun, presently - for ducks and geese, stopped hunting pheasant, because their numbers have fallen so low. - I agree with your advice, thanks, - Mark T, Michigan
A friend & mentor of mine always has said “do you really think the people at the shop will use the same care and consideration on your vintage stuff as you will? YOU will care for YOUR belongings better than anyone else” …that is, unless you just don’t care. Learn your firearms inside and out or be forever reliant on another man to know what you chose not to. It’s always a choice
Those JC Higgins are great shotguns. I've owned plenty and we sell every single one we get it faster than any modern moss/rem, etc. Good old affordable SG.
Story goes my Mother bought my father a J.C. Higgins 12 ga. back in the early 50's as a gift. He didn't like it because it was heavy so he traded it even up for an Ithica 37 in 20 ga. That was the first gun I ever shot. I got it when he passed and now my son and grandson use it occasionally. I have since acquired a J.C. Higgins and love it. Yup they are heavy but very decent quality.
That shotgun was very well made by High Standard, and they did not produce junk. It, like the Mossberg and Marlin were re-works of the old Remingyton 31.
I traded my GE radio/cassette player with headset for a Single shot Bolt action 22 JC HIGGINS rifle it had SEARS/ROBUK stamped on the barrel!! I was 12yrs old!! I could take a squirrel out of a tree at 75yards !!!🤯😎
Introduced in 1946 and offered in 12, 16 and 20 gauges, production continued until the early 60's, when Sears discontinued the J.C. Higgins sporting goods line, replacing it in 1962 with the Ted Williams line of products.
#9 Best hitter ever. If he hadn't given up all those prime of his career seasons to volunteer for The Marines and fly fighter planes in combat (as John Glenns wingman btw) it wouldn't even be a discussion.
I never considered asking someone to clean any firearm I own. Legit did not know it was even an option. Cleaning after a day at the range is just part of the fun of owning weapons. Breaking it all down and giving it tlc before reassembly and functions check...whats not to love?

I charge $10 quick clean chamber, barrel, stock ,grips, mag tubes and or magazines with Teflon coating exterior metal..and $25 for complete break down deep cleaning and lubricant with Teflon coating..I enjoy it so much as a hobby that I started making money..I don't care if it's hipoint or a Browning,if it needs cleaned I'll do it .have to say I think pump action shotguns are my favorite besides revolvers.ARs platforms are fun to break down and clean but time consuming to do it thoroughly anyway.
He is so knowledgeable on laws and all the things a farmer has to do and deal with. He would make a great member of the government. All around decent person..
I experienced a lot of haters when I decided to start shooting by buying a guaranteed for life Hi-point, and then another. They were the right guns, at the right time and lead me to awesome weapons that my family and I use consistently. The handguns might be a joke but 20+ guns later (snob qualified) my Hi-point carbine is one of my favorite to shoot. I know this video could go either way but how does one say “2A guarantees everyone the right to carry” then shit on those who buy an American made, guaranteed for life, gun. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Buy what you can afford to defend your family but do all the research you can. There are inexpensive guns that WILL do the job.
JC Higgins sre good guns. My buddy has one and I’ve got an old Stevens. Both were $100 dollars each. They would be $600 each if they had Mossberg printed on the side.

The J.C. Higgins Shotgun Series is a branded commercial shotgun, manufactured by High Standard Arms under contract for the department store chain Sears & Roebuck. J.C. Higgins was specifically a Sears firearms line and was sold in its stores and through its catalog for many years.
Thanks for the info on this!! I had never heard of a J.C. Higgins firearm before.
So many Sears brand marlins out there for bargains when it’s literally the same gun with a different stamp
I inherited a model 20 along with a couple other guns from my grandad. They haven't been shot in over a decade since I have no idea how to properly clean them.
And it’s probably better than half the shotguns you can buy nowadays.
Coast to Coast did the same thing selling Marlins with the CtoC logo.
I have a J.C. Higgins .12 guage pump. My dad had one too. Took plenty of Quail and Rabbit with them.
Nothing wrong with them.
Love my J.C. Higgins, what's funny here is I had mine ceracoated as well lol
My pops rebuilt me a j.c Higgins bolt action 20 gauge, shoots like a charm
I've got two of those model 20s. One with power pack. Other one was grand dad's basic truck gun. I broke a pump arm once at a skeet shoot and found a pile of parts on eBay for $75. Good to go for a long time. Great bang bangs
Cleaning your gun is free therapy. Holy shit.
Can I buy the YEET cannon? Can never have too many YEET cannons?
Those guns were made by high standard. Smoothest action ever. They slam fire too.
Hey is that a yeet cannon
Yea it is
Yeet😂
Its cuz they cant get their arms far enough past their bellies
Funny 😐
But I would bet that they could use correct grammar !!😅😅

I love JC Higgins
I've got two JC Higgins shotguns. Great guns.
I understood 0% of this video.
We obviously are elderly. I am. I never considered or imagined having someone else clean my firearms. The smells of solvent and oil will accompany me to the afterlife. I chuckle to myself when I see the sign at Jimmy Johns about free smells
- I understand about 50% -
3) I got no idea, when he asks,"Is that a YEET ( I think) can, over there ?"
- First, I had no idea what "yeet" is, but read reply above, and recall that YEET has something to do with "throwing ordnance" - GRENADES. (See other comments )
Reading a few other comments is interesting, but that's all I got, on this video... ( Maybe it's a gag - why would a gun shop turn- away business ? I can only guess about the "YEET" ?? etc., etc.)
- Mark T, Michigan
@@doncook3584Do you know anything else about this, is it a gag, or what ? Do I remember, that J.C.Higgins ( like bicycles ) was a brand- name for either Sears, or Montgomery Ward, dept. store ?
- Why the hell would a gun shop turn- away business, even just a cleaning ?
@@marktulk4225 do not. If you don’t intend to care for gun, car, boat whatever; don’t buy
@@doncook3584- THANKS for your reply. I wasn't being cynical, or antagonistic, just trying to understand this. I'm a skilled tradesman - cert., union welder - after 10 years salvage/ industrial Diver, so I know well to properly care for equipment, and tools. I have only one shotgun, presently - for ducks and geese, stopped hunting pheasant, because their numbers have fallen so low.
- I agree with your advice, thanks,
- Mark T, Michigan
JC Higgins was my first shotgun I purchased myself.
His face HAS to be photoshopped onto that head. HASSS to be. I'll come down there tomorrow to verify

Nah. Just fat.
Was it photoshopped?

I would feel ashamed as a grown man to pay someone to clean my firearms. My Dad taught me how to clean a firearm before I ever fired one.
That "yeet" got you a subscription
🤣🤣🤣 thank you!
I have that exact model!
The Yeet Canon? 😂

Yup they are heavy but very decent quality.
bruh i hate cleaning but cleaning guns is CATHARTIC!
JC higgens shotguns are the shit. They are fucking smooth and reliable.
That shotgun was very well made by High Standard, and they did not produce junk. It, like the Mossberg and Marlin were re-works of the old Remingyton 31.
"is that a yeet cannon?" *Sighs "yeah" then flinches cause the dude in the back yelling "yeet" i loved that
I traded my GE radio/cassette player with headset for a Single shot Bolt action 22 JC HIGGINS rifle it had SEARS/ROBUK stamped on the barrel!! I was 12yrs old!! I could take a squirrel out of a tree at 75yards !!!🤯😎
Nice 👍
Introduced in 1946 and offered in 12, 16 and 20 gauges, production continued until the early 60's, when Sears discontinued the J.C. Higgins sporting goods line, replacing it in 1962 with the Ted Williams line of products.
They were just big box store names for guns made for them by regular manufacturers like Stevens, Winchester, FN-all sorts though the years.
Sears always fronted quality products.
That is awesome. I have a JC Higgins I didn't even know how old it was! So it's like 70 years old or something like that. Crazy.
My Ted Williams is a winchester

Best hitter ever. If he hadn't given up all those prime of his career seasons to volunteer for The Marines and fly fighter planes in combat (as John Glenns wingman btw) it wouldn't even be a discussion.
Is Jey Uso in the back?!??? YEEEEET🤣🙌🏽
Oh I love the flinch that just that just made it even funnier. Earned my sub
I never considered asking someone to clean any firearm I own. Legit did not know it was even an option. Cleaning after a day at the range is just part of the fun of owning weapons. Breaking it all down and giving it tlc before reassembly and functions check...whats not to love?
The YEET! at the end got me dyen and the way the guy wensed was hilarious
JC Higgins, Ted Williams and other guns were made by major manufacturers like Remington, Winchester, Stevens, etc. the are good.
I laughed way too hard at that, YEEET!
My JC Higgins was a 22 long rifle manufactured by Winchester and it was sold by Sears I have the catalog it was featured in
There was a no life without a cannon. YEET!
That same exact pump was my first shotgun purchase. It was $200 and I still love it!
Ok
Hahahahah, the “YEET” never gets old!!!!
I've got a great JCHiggins .22 semi has the retractable sling in the stock runs like a champ and very accurate
I couldnt even imagine not cleaning my own guns, didnt even know it was a thing. Must be a city folk thing
JC Higgins means Sears. In the early sixties it was my bicycle and first shotgun, a single shot bolt action .410
Best advise i got qhile i was in the army besides to use c.l.p which even my dad uses now was from a sgt. In my squad who told me the best tools to use to clean.your gun are old dentist tools i asked mine for some my dentist at the time was one of those war re-enactors with the the period correct uniform. He is Canadian and loves the war of 1812 and im a descendant of chief Tecumseh and was in the u.s army i was one of his favorite patients amd still have those tools today and sgt. Stump is correct best tools i ever had for cleaning my guns are old dentist tools . Good enough for my teeth and am pretty sure these tools worked on mine and my dads teeth and now our guns
My old JC higgins Model 20 needs some love, "we dont touch this stuff" kinda hurt haha.
He's also the guy that when asked for a particular gun, will argue and say, "You don't want one of those. This is what you want". Because that is all he knows.
Anybody who turns their nose up at a JC Higgins clearly isn't very intelligent.
Same type of igamos that buy Starbucks coffee and hold the cup so the logo shows. They're the type of gun guys that don't know how to judge a gun except by going on what they hear other people say.

Jc higgins are perfectly fine firearms. I believe many of them were rebadged savage firearms
YEET! It's not a gun, it's a cannon! YEET!
Hahahahahahah! "Yeat!" What's up with the yeat cannon?
I WANT A YEET CANNON!!!
YEEET!!!! LOL love that cringe as the yeet comes flying from the cheap seats lol
JC Higgins sre good guns. My buddy has one and I’ve got an old Stevens. Both were $100 dollars each. They would be $600 each if they had Mossberg printed on the side.
