I was introduced to The Church 30 years ago when I was a kid. I didn't have a mom and my dad desperately needed a babysitter at the last minute. The girl who usually babysat me was going to The Church concert that night and told my dad the only way she'd be willing to babysit me was if she could take me to the concert with her. I'd been a fan ever since.
and your dad paid the ticket?
@@MrErickloli That's an odd question. I would assume. As I mentioned he "desperately needed a babysitter at the last minute". I was in kindergarten. My mom wasn't home when I got home from kindergarten. By the time my older brother got home from school, my mom still hadn't come back home. My brother left in search for our mom. By the time my dad got home from work, I was still alone, my brother was still searching for our mom, and it was obvious to our dad that our mom had left us. Her clothes and makeup were gone. I don't think being concerned about the cost of a concert ticket was at the top of my dad's mind at the time. So it wasn't a situation where he was able to plan ahead to have a babysitter lined up for that evening. But he needed one, desperately. He probably just gave her a bunch of money, told her to keep an eye on me and ran out the door.
@@desktopkitty Sorry about the question. I was just imagining you story and got stucked when I thought who bought your ticket lol. Despite everything else I hoped you had really enjoyed that concert though.
That... is a great story. Good for you...
Amazing story.
In Sydney we had an excellent band environment - you could see AC/DC, INXS, The Church, Split Enz and so many other bands at normal pubs, usually with no cover charge. Some even played at my university (very inexpensive drinks).
I'm glad that you like The Church - I never tire of listening to their music.
Church and midnight oil. Two bands that got me through the high school years
My favourite band for nearly 40 years. As a teen I used to buy every piece of vinyl I could because I thought they weren't going to last very long.
Love this band...
His voice hasn't aged at all! Amazing!
I think it's aged in a beautiful way, as he has.
Long live these 40 some year old bands, just amazing when you think of it, that they're still around making such good music 🎶 Thank you
The church and u2 have great full albums. So much good music
Oh yeah Myrrh live! What a pleasant hidden surprise to find here! I nearly clicked by it thinking these were newer songs only.
@@dallasseale2178 still going strong
I love this band. Here in México, we meet them or hear them as a dark-goth-rock-melodic band. I hope some day came to visit us (and I had the chance to hear them).
Saludos amigo!
I have always had a soft spot for the Church. They were so cool the i was a teenager In Australia n the 1980s. They continue to shine. Their music has lasted very well. Many of their 1980s songs could have been released yesterday. (IMHO). Thanks KEXP for putting this on youtube.
@Oz Baz. YESSSSSSSSS
I'm from around San Antonio, TX. From 1987, when I got into them, until about 2004, I could count on one finger the number of actual fans that I knew (talking about myself, of course). When I saw them for the first time in Austin, they had the place PACKED full of people. It was a great show! And, I still don't really know any other fans, despite having seen them several times after that--LOL!
see ya on 4/29/19 ?@@robcerasuolo9207
Holy Lord, this is beautiful. "I Don't Know How I Don't Know Why" is mystical.
The Church is a band that, in their musical genius, is proof that time travel exists.
We're interrupted by the telephone. You didn't think they were invented then.
@@ClayAsbury122 LOL.
wow i had no idea these guys were playing on KEXP
they earned a lot more recognition for all their output
Como vinho. ..Church quanto mais velho melhor!FOREVER CHURCH. ..
Os caras são bons MESMO, não tem jeito
Props to Mr. Kevin Suggs for the sound quality...
The Church's new album, their 26th is one of their best. Loving their longevity!
Thanks for the tip. i agree.
I agree completely. Would love to hear them perform MWLDI in its entirety. Another Century, Dark Waltz, Don’t Know How, etc are brilliant live.
Disagree with respect. Not even close to "Hologram" or "Preist = Aura"
It’s my favorite.
Heyday being my second.
Starfish, the 3rd.
I dig yer handle
Gran grupo! Los escuchaba mucho en mi juventud con "Milky Way" y "Reptile". Tienen un tipo de música que lleva por espacios mágicos. Gracias "The Church"... Gracias al Canal.
❤
I met Steve before a show in LA. He is such a nice person. I waited over 30 years to see them play live and it was an awesome show. I Highly recommend seeing them I definitely plan on seeing them again.
Fantastic Band.
I LOVE THIS third song on the live its GOT REAL EMOTION loved the key change only wish Steves volume was up more hes hard to hear a lot of the time♥️💓💖
5/2/24 Great band! CHECK OUT THE FLOOR TOM, HE'S GOT A FRAMING SQUARE LAYING ACROSS THE TOP OF IT!!!!! As a carpenter I LOVE IT!
Myrrh, 1985 Heyday... acheté à l'époque en vinyl puis en CD. Steve Kilbey a toujours une aussi belle voix. Grand groupe australien.
After so many years I have relived all those sensations that The Church was able to transmit, and even today they have surprised me again with their latest works, these guys aged like a good wine, and today it is a pleasure to rediscover their music !! ! long live The Church !!
Amazing performance and sound was able to do the meet and greet in SLC such down to earth guys
I was there in SLC as well. Fantastic show - and great to finally meet the band. Good guys - all of them!
muy buena banda desde Rancagua de chile
Wonderful
fantastic
Great!!!!!! My Favorite Band
Its so nice to hear Tim's harmony such a wonderful compliment to Steve's baritone !
The Church, grew up on them. May 1st, Meow Wolf, Santa Fe NM. Fantastic!!!!!!
This 4th song has great rythym 👍♥️💓♥️❤️👍
I have lost them for some years. Loved them very long. Thanks KEXP, it was the same with LLOYD Cole. Took the records out of the corner and had a big smile in my head.
WOW doubling up the beat👍👍👍👍💓💖👍👍👍
what a gig ! lovely. I still remember the day i bought my first church's album: heyday. Over 30 years ago, still a masterpiece.
got started then too!
the first song is about creation. I just love the "prayer" in it.
Cambridge last night, best show in a long time for me. Timing was perfect, spot on.
Galctic music on this planet going on for decades with this band.
About time to come to Portugal boys, we've been waiting for a long time...
Heyday was my 1st time hearing them. Then ever since till now. Ironically, I've been following Ian's career since the 90's. (Powderfinger, Predators) Now I get to hear two favorites at once.
When Heyday came out, my oldest son brought his friends from Brooklyn, NY back to Colorado (Aspen, Snowmass) to ski. His friends were from various places in New England and I hope they planted "The Church " seeds all over those states. This new album, Man Woman Life Death Infiniti, is one of their best. Been listening all day to it.
Fantastic and great to see the guys at KEXP
Wonderful sound
Still sound great. Such a creative band, thanks for posting
Day 5 is from their album 'Uninvited, Like the Clouds'
IDKHIDKW and Another Century are from 'Man Woman Life Death Infinity'
and Myrrh is from 'Heyday'
Emerald haunt in overdrive
Nightmare descent into Jericho City
Camel dust heralds our arrival
New Christ beneath a drumkit moon
Brilliant lyrics!!
Heaven be praised we got a stop gap listening to Heaven before we even get there i.e. The Church
Beautiful live performance. Still sound excellent. Been a fan since Reptile and Under the Milky Way, which are still on my playlists.
Favorite band of all time? Count me in. Even more with Marty, I say respect of Ian of course. Missing that "Spark"
Makes me feel old, 1st band to see in my life. Great voice!!!!
1984 with Peter Murphy
Wow. Sounding great and looking good.
Such and underrated band
Outstanding boys !
They are great!!
i love them
Excelent!!!, hughs from Jauja - Perú =)
I've liked The Church for many years now- and I still do. But I'm becoming a big DJ Morgan fan, too!
Magic, brilliant album, come play Dublin soon again !!
Great set !!
Amazing session :D
Jeffrey deserves particular mention for his playing on Another Century; playing barre chords on a 12-string that cleanly is difficult!
Wow, there is a mellotron sound in the Another Century, great!
superb
Listening to this on 150mics
great sound
great band!
You can only hope to be as charming, and as such a yarn spinner as Steve the bard.
Wow!! ❤️
New album next week..
Inmortales😎
I fell in love with his girlfriend during and after their gig at the Hillsborough in Christchurch. Beautiful redhead we never exchanged name’s. Ethereal music in an unguarded moment.
I suppose this ended up in my feed because I've been watching KEXP shows for others (Dream Wife, Courtney Barnett), and been watching The Church quite a bit in other videos, so I guess CZcams put two and two together, and showed me…some guys almost 40 years older than in their prime. But hey, let's see what they've got…
OMG this guys...
BTW the drummmer is GREAT👍❤️
I was 20 back in 1980 when I first heard 'Unguarded Moment ' .Bought the 45. Lol..
Cool! 😉
Steve said something about studios 'on your iPhone' ...
Some members of Gomez (who also played a blinder of a session on this channel!) actually did that! They recorded an album of some sort entirely on iPhones!
kexp.. wow ....
Utterly immense as per
Peter Koppes toured with them, I believe the other guitarist is Jeffrey Cain of Remy Zero, who possibly may have recently joined the band
I think Jeffrey is doing the Church's live performance "utility man" job of guitar, bass and/or keyboards as needed, which was previously done by Craig Wilson. The main guitarists are still Peter Koppes and Ian Haug.
Steve Kilbey of the Church and Jeffrey Cain have released a couple worthwhile albums under the name Isidore.
"Another Century!" My hair always stands on end when I hear it in any context.
What's the first song? It's beautiful. Reminds me of Wicked Game by Chris Isaak a little.
Loved the way they incorporated ‘Within you, Without you’ into Day 5!! Whatever happened to Marty Wilson Piper and the other original lineup?
Stevies cute little Ampeg ☺️☺️
This is what I wish post-Syd Pink Floyd sounded like.
Tim under the kit light. Interrogate: "where is the koppes!"
"Why that joy division thingy!?"
"Was ULTC really more than 10 years ago!?"
someone knows the names of all the playlist???
Where are Marty and Peter? Just got this album and love it so far. Plan to see them in Los Angeles in March.
Marty had a fall out years ago, but only Marty knows why. If you look at Marty's blog he won't even mention the Church by name, which in my opinion is very childish.
I think Peter was just sick of touring.
@@kieransmith1796 I had no idea. I remember talking to Peter at a Church gig some years back. I hadn't realized how tall he is.
MAi$ uma BANDINHA eu#
What the setlist ?
Doesn't take long to get old huh? I just discovered Church 2 min.ago and there already old!😕
Deluxe.
what is the name of the first song???
Hard to accept bands like U2 and Foo Fighters have become as big as they have when they are sooo inferior to The Church...
You could not say this any better. You are 100% right!
I dunno i give em a tie
@@douggraham4
Keep em Hungry (as they say) see they are not fat, bloated ,arrogant or Wealthy... Church=Love
@Trunk McEight they also hate bands that dont conform to the industry. That's why I love bands like the Church. They do it their way with a big middle finger to big labels.
Especially the Foos
Anyone know why Peter Koppes isn't with them?
He missed a connection on the day.
Peter did have transportation troubles that day so he was unable to get to the studio.
Only 875 likes?? WTF!
I want Haughies guitar
Not The Church without Marty Wilson Piper and Peter Koppes
Don't rub it in by saying it. It's already bad enough those guys are not there. We all know it. Still sounds pretty good though.
Flawless musicianship, until surprisingly the last song...bit of a shaky start on the old Myrrh
no "reptile"? that's their best song
Sascha Husenbeth
😂 it's not even the best song on Starfish!
Nah
His voice sounds so much like David Bowie's.
Pysychadelich Furs
Willem van de Beek shut up.
@@Deckardpr ha ha ... you got a point there bro .. : )
No PK no MWP = No Church
crashing cymbals with that tambourine is not clever luckily hes probally endoresed...cool band though
Who are you again?
The Church is not the Church without Peter Koppes and Marty Wilson-Piper!!!
Ploog was even more important. Everything post-Ploog is lame.
Who is this 2 cent clown hosting this show?Blushing at the humor of it all....
Ac3, Hush now. The Church is playing.
