    8:50 - Ashley's withdrawal from 4CC
    12:02 - Tonya Harding
    16:50 - Liam Firus
    PAIRS - 19:08
    19:08 - Lubov Ilyushechkina/Dylan Moscovitch, Kirsten Moore-Towers/Michael Marinaro, Julianne Seguin/Charlie Bilodeau
    27:12 - Meagan Duhamel/Eric Radford
    28:58 - Olympic Team Event personal choice
    MEN
    32:00 - Patrick Chan
    36:24 - Keegan Messing/Nam Nguyen (I pick La Strada!)
    39:28 - Conrad Orzel
    ICE DANCE
    41:48 - Piper Gilles/Paul Poirier
    45:36 - Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje - one thing about their FD is, they always missed the last climactic "Je suus malaaaaaaaaaaaade". The lift there wasn't that impressive, the entry wasn't dramatic or difficult, just wasn't compatible with the big music.
    48:30 - Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir - The new ending is a glorious moment which could really help them get a higher PCS (even though I like the old ending better, i think the old version is a more sophisticated program). I see the ending like Johnathan, they chase for their final, glorious and redemptive moment, and then she dies of exhaustion.
    LADIES
    54:51 - Kaetlyn Osmond/ she should put the Loop as the last jump, she messed it up in the middle of the program and the she will falter
    58:47 - Alaine Chatrand/ I feel so sad for her :(
    1:00:47 - Larkyn Austman
    1:05:03 - Gabrielle Daleman
    1:09:32 - Anna Shcherbakova, Europeans
    1:15:58 - Fluff piece

    But I think Tessa’s character is dead even when she’s in his arms up in the air (not just when Scott puts her down). At least that’s how I interpreted it since her arms are still dangling death-like where she’s being raised by Scott. Tessa described it as a more triumphant ending where she still dies, but there’s still some desperation to it, where they’re still clinging on to something. And I might have this wrong (I’m not familiar with the moulin rouge story as much) but when Scott has his hands up in the air it’s almost like he’s appealing to the Gods asking why she’s dead OR you can interpret it as triumphantly saying I’ll love you until my dying day (and he doesn’t know she’s dead yet). I think it’s beautiful.

    • @emim6780
      @emim6780 Před 6 lety +8

      Well we all know Jonathan will find something to pick on with TS just for the fun of it even if it has no grasp in reality. Just because he doesn't understand something it doesn't mean that other people don't get it too, I have not seen one person on several social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and facebook) who failed to get the ending. At this point I'm just sure he is trying to either annoy figure skating fans for the drama or he just really is ignorant about understanding something that is a little bit more complex and nuanced. Oh and no, I'm not Canadian.

    • @nathaliecool8296

I hate how there is red illusion fabric and that sweetheart neckline on the red dress. I wish they would've made the practice dress except in a nice red for the actual costume.

    If you think about the ending of Tessa and Scotts FD, in the film Moulin Rouge, Christian doesn't know Satine is dying until the seconds before she actually dyes and prior to that she was performing a musical on stage. So how they've changed their ending is actually more fitting with the storyline of the film in that they were on a massive high or reuniting and then she suddenly dies

    • @PeiwenTanbassoon821
      @PeiwenTanbassoon821 Před 6 lety +2

      I thought the movie is weird like that so I'm finding the new FD ending equally weird...
      I'm just really not a fan of Moulin Rouge in general and I agree that a program like Maddie and Zach's FD this season would be more fitting for them.

    • @jadedouglas552
      @jadedouglas552 Před 6 lety +4

      Yeah I understand why they chose it because it is something different and allows them to be maybe a bit more expressive and precise over something like last year but I think it is risky in that people will either like it or dislike it. Plus I think they wanted to do something completely different from the olympics in 2014, and I guess this is there last competitive season so probably wanted to do something they were really passionate about! Hopefully we can all admire it whether you like it or not, don't think anyone could deny the technical difficulty of the programme, their skating skills or the commitment they give to the characters! Plus I do think Tessa is absolutely stunning all the way through!

    I trained with Gabby 8ish years ago at Richmond Training Center in Richmond Hill, Ontario (coaches: Andrei Berezintsev, Inga Zusev).. and at the time she had the weirdest technique, terrible jumps, appearance and SS. I can personally say that people made fun of her for not being aesthetically pleasing. I never really noticed that these talks bothered her but now I think they really did because in a short 5 years she changed her image, makeup, clothes, jumping technique and SS. I think to this day she over-tries to be that typical ice princess with some sassiness and that translates into her social media and her attitude. It seems like she has something to prove all the time.

    That Weaver/Poje/Morozov piece is the perfect antidote to the torch fluff piece. Good gravy, that was hard to watch! I am Canadian, and I think we could do well to have some brutal honesty in our skating coverage. It would be a good balance to the "Canadian" commentary that's out there :) Also, Jonathan, I totally get what you're saying about Larkyn. My fellow Canadians relax; I was rooting for her to get the bronze. But there was a good deal of vacancy in her performances here, especially compared to her material and performance from last years nationals. Her reaction after her free was a bit confusing to me...did she know how the rest of the field had skated? She had three big errors...so was it just a reaction to how much better she had performed here than she did at her Grand Prix assignment? It was confusing

    Of all the nationals, the Canadians had the most bloated scores! I would subtract at least 15 points from Kaetlyn's long. Gabby's PCS to 8's. Mind you I like both girls and they could have easily won US nationals with clean skates. The Canadian ladies have come a long way but these championships are like the Europeans Ladies event; after the top 2 or 3 it is a sharp drop in the scores. I don't expect much from Patrick at these Olympics. His comeback has been lackadasical.
    The pairs: I see D and R 5th. Top three: Chinese, German and Red haired Russian in that order.
    Dance: Maybe the most competitive and exciting event at these games.

    • @erinpeacexo1854

      I totally agree. Generally every country inflates their National scores, but Canada took it to a new level. Much more inflated than Russia, US, Italy, France......Osmond 's LP was only one point lower in second place than it was last season when she got first place. Seriously, Daleman got almost 230 for that program?? Grossly inflated scores in every discipline!!!

I do hope that Alexa tries to articulate herself better (she's quite charming when she's not being preachy) and not make it sound like God is giving her/Chris any special attention. And speaking of Chris, I really feel for all that he has gone through, and hope that he can focus and work harder on landing his jumps.

      Danielle Fioretti Dave is a troll and always has been. This is like Skating Wendy Williams. Not much Lesson - mostly tabloid gossip.
      That being said, Dave has never been dishonest about himself (that I know of). I think skaters trusted Jenny and put out, later realizing the monster they created by giving credibility to this resource (which was then repurposed to tear them down - Kori Aide, Gracie Gold, Edmunds, Wagner, etc.).
      On the flip side. Skater's need to grow the fuck up and stop expecting to be treated with kid gloves.

Lots of people know how to skate, but if you want to do more than just skate in circles, or if you want to ice dance, the events are few and far between and the prices are high.
    Also the musicality just isn't there in most skaters for most people to watch just for entertainment.

    Re: Larkyn... I was also offended. The way she holds her arms and shoulders looks like she's new to skating. It's bizarre to see someone with her skating skills make the Olympic team, especially representing a country like Canada (i.e., not the first-ever ice skater from Djibouti). Alaine is a hot mess and she fucks up both her jumps and spins, but, if not for the PR nightmare of placing a non-podium finisher on the team, I think it should've been Alaine to go... Alaine has GPS experience and was National champ two years ago, whereas Larkyn's first GP was this season's Skate Canada, and she *bombed*. Her highest ISU FS score is under 100. She looks so so so deer-in-the-headlights when she's interviewed about the Olympics... I think it's gotta be too much pressure for her, given her lack of experience. When Alaine skates clean (once in several seasons), she's actually good, whereas Larkyn looks a bit like an adult figure skater, IMO.

      TheSkatingLesson I said I wasn't watching anymore 'cause you guys had turned into an Ashley Wagner (et al.) Hate Club. I'm hardly the first to lob this criticism at you. In that Comment I suggested you make TSL more informative and less of a bitch-fest... While I doubt I alone influenced your change in tone (i.e., I've seen plenty of people on Facebook suggesting the same), I did notice a change in your tone when you were commentating on US Nationals... Funny enough, I'd actually started watching it just to see how much of it you'd spend ragging on Wagner, and was pleasantly surprised to hear reasonable, informative dialogue -- and I believe I commented as such. I certainly don't have anything against you personally; I'd just hoped to hear less gossip and ridiculousness and more information about skating. I'm liking the new approach and will be tuning in for as long as it continues.

      @queenmaoasada8447 Před 6 lety

      TheSkatingLesson And I would never take issue with you being critical of The Skating; it's being critical of the skatersss, on a personal level -- e.g., when you more-or-less said that Wagner had feigned injury at Skate America and had been too obvious with the Bunga pad, etc. I was grateful to the professional skater -- as were others in the Comments -- for defending the ankle infection debacle. I take issue with you making everything sound as salacious as possible -- not for reasonable criticism of skating.

    I’m Canadian and I’m embarrassed with the commentary. Geez, Ted Barton couldn’t say’ ladies ‘ or ‘women” instead of ‘girls’. He was so annoying.

    You wondered what Jewel was up to a few weeks ago. I found an article today by happenstance: www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/90s-folk-superstar-jewel-is-happy--finally-now-she-wants-to-know-are-you/2018/01/17/13125686-f61e-11e7-a9e3-ab18ce41436a_story.html

    Tracy Wilson has been extremely biased and quite obnoxious to non-Canadians and perhaps some Canadians as well. She was much more professional and objective when she worked for NBC. She's become this Canadian robot when she does commentary and yes she did drink the Kool-Aid!!!!. People talk about Tara Lipinski being annoying. Wilson has surpassed her and then some!!!!
    Virtue & Moir skated very well, but how much better were they at Nationals than they were at other competitions. Did they really deserve perfect 10's??? How high is the ceiling when it comes to Virtue & Moir? Its become totally ridiculous and so obvious that the Canadian federation wanted to make sure that V/M had a higher score than P/C going into the Olympics. People need to stop predicting the winners and let them just skate at the Olympics first. Disaster could strike any team. Botched twizzles or a fall could knock any team off the podium unless its rigged. Look what happened to Hubbell & Donahue last season at Worlds. It could conceivably happen to any team. Hubbell & Donahue are so good and with mistakes from the other teams, who knows what will happen. My point is just let the Olympics happen and see how all of the teams skate!!!!!!
