Finns have some of the coolest names out there
My husband and I drove 3 hours down to come watch FPO and MPO. (11:32 there we are in pink & blue!!) We enjoyed it so much. I was too shy to say hi to you and thank you in person after the MPO award ceremony. 🤭 thanks for all you & your team do, Terry.
It would have been great to talk. Looks like we'll have to next time!
Thank you for the kind words and support.
Alden is great on the mic. You should have him on whenever you can.
I've spent way too much time trying to think how to tell two of my favorite disc golf people how much i love listening to them talking about disc golf.
So I think I should just say thanks.
Aww shucks. Awfully kind of you.
Alden is very calm, and well, suited to Terry's channel. Great job.
I heard the same theory. They play a lot of standstill because the late autumn until spring forces them to throw without run-up.
It's not true though. None of the Finnish pro's throw outside when it's ice and slippy (outside of some casual rounds), which could cause injury or mess up your technique. All actual practice is done indoors.
You think they practiced indoors when they were 10-16 years old? Lol, the theory is bang on right.@@demishade
@@stidudiiduri can confirm, no run up over winter and I'm pretty sure at least Väinö has uploaded outdoor winter CZcams videos. So despite training indoors, I suspect even the pros might do a casual round or two outdoors during the winter time. And prior to turning pro they definitely threw outdoors over the winter.
Fins play on a lot of platforms in Finland so they learned to do this to prevent momentum carrying them off the edge. They also play a lot of wooded disc golf, with undulations on the ground everywhere, so it's not just standstills on the tee.
Incidentally, Corey Ellis developed his standstill for the same reason. A lot of courses he grew up playing on had a lot of elevation, and standstills were needed on a lot of tees there, too.
@@demishadeAs a Finn can confirm that even pros are playing on winter times. Of course they train indoors on top of outside training. Spiked running shoes (such as icebugs) has surprisingly good grip on pure ice.
Personally I feel I have better grip on pure ice with IceBugs than on wet grass during summertime.
Heck ya a day off and some disc golf. Who am I kidding I would be watching it at work anyway. Thanks Terry and Alden. Let’s go AHarris we won’t to see you on lead card.
Love to see more Washington state pro attendance! Keep coming up here! Let's hope we can get a DGPT event next year!
Good stuff Terry and Alden.
Anyone else notice that Väinö and Niklas were wearing the same shoes? Interesting 🤔
They are both sponsored by Merrell.
Thanks for the coverage!
God I love the Pacific Northwest :)
I got to watch Kevin Kieffer at OTB last weekend. We chit chatted on a walk to the next hole. Hes such a cool, chill dude. Really made my tournament experience enjoyable
I do a Brinster-esq standstill backhand when I need accuracy. Thanks for the coverage!
Vaino with the top secret shoe design as well. Not only is that a very solid sponsor which is good to see, I'm hoping they give some design input for a better disc golf shoe... can I just get a reinforced toe please?
My favorite throwing style is gently dropping the disc in the basket. It means that whatever went before that worked 😉
Chandler regripping during his run up is wild!
My favorite accuracy throw is the tap in.
Thanks again Terry! looking forward to more.
Crazy to see them shred one of my locals courses
i can attest to DG valley! granted i am far from a pro but it helps me learn wind since i overthink it on the course. LOL at the FH improvement from DG Valley per Kevin. Now it sounds like advertising.
this is some good golf and even better commentary, so funny!!!
Thanks Terry!
My favorite throwing style for accuracy is a forehand
Same! Saw a lot of them eating humble pie at times too though.
I like tomahawk and rollers. Backhand rollers a little more than forehand rollers.
Backhand is my favorite throwing style but give me a good thumber line and I'll hit it 9 out of 10 times.
Wouldn’t be the first time a video game made someone a pro at that respective sport.
Chandler had a-lot of tough spit-outs in the finals of the COVID putting challenge. When I was watching, I felt like he would have won with a better basket....
i met steve brinster at Rutgers course in new jersey
Best odds of hitting gaps for me is the FH forsure. Admittedly im a power forehand dominant player, so really only throw backhands for dead straight shots and hyzers. I definitely struggle with consistency on BH turnovers
Maybe I'm partial to Alden because he's a fellow GA guy, but he is really good at the commentary.
The Finnish stand-still: Majority of our courses are in the forest and a lot of them don't have grassy fairways. The ground is often uneven so throwing a stand-still gives you often more confidence and consistency.
So in that sense the Beast at Nokia does not represent a usual course in Finland.
Finns do standstill shot because shot will be more accurate than walk up
Casie white does stand still on tee
Question
Most accurate throwing style ?
One step backhand.
Thanks for this Terry! Is anyone doing FPO post production??
My channel will have it as well and it should start rolling out in the next few days!
Any chance you will be in Maine for the Q-Series?
I don't think I'm involved with that one but my channel is covering the Beehive Classic, Q Series at the famed Fort course Ogden, Utah.
Alden's channel is full of hard hitting, deeply researched investigations into the seedy underbelly of tour life.
Definitely worth checking out for serious disc golf fans.
last year's expose on sex trafficking read like creepypasta
Does anyone know how Kevin tore is knee up? Was it from disc golf or something else?
I “officially” tore my ACL and Meniscus at DGLO taking a funny step on hole 3. But when I got the MRI back the Doctors said I probably partially tore it as a kid and then when I stepped awkwardly at Toboggan that’s when it fully gave.
@@kevinkiefer8331 thanks for the response!! Glad to see ur back competing at a high level. I’ll be picking up your strive for my bday. Good luck with the rest of the year!
My most accurate throw is a forehand.
y’all don’t know ab the casey white standstill
More Tostitos Boy please! 😂
What happened to Cascade this year? Did it get demoted? This was Silver Series last year.
I didn't think it fit into the schedule as an Elite series event but it is a Q-Series and I'd be shocked to not see it as an Elite at some point.
Mixed bag. As a Q series , you get to cover it , which is awesome, but it also doesn't draw some of the bigger names, which is a bummer.
(Thanks for answering!)
Simon lizotte would love this track,he's always asking for shorter course to play
@@scottdavis5076 I'm surprised he didn't play it last year. Just about everyone else did.
@@Dr.PatrickC.Bailey I bet it's on next year's schedule tho,, the players gotta love ,,not having to throw drivers,as hard as they can on every tee shot,, the tour needs a good technical course where putters and mids can be thrown ,,, I can't help but to think of Isaac just carving that place up with turnover mids
Anhyzer forhands
Backhand all day for accuracy
Tomahawk!!
I think Väino and Niklas traded a shoe lol
Run up back hand launch. I have no forehand.
Finnish weaknesses? I would say putting is one with few exceptions. The second is winning mentality. No matter what sport or aspect of life it is about, we are often too modest and humble and lack the winning mentality. I think it comes from our history. It has been slowly changing, but is still there.
Like in everything, there are exceptions and individuals who this doesn't apply., but in generally.
In disc golf I would add lack of experience in playing with the best. Most players have had only handful of bigger tournaments per year and facing mainly other Finnish players or other European players, but not against the best Americans. More and more are going to the US to play and level in Europe is getting better and better, but it is not in the US level.
3:25 i feel that kieffer is being unspotsmanlike. Cant sit still for a second in makela's putting peripheral
