    Maybe 7 or so years from now, the owner of another Sienna van will need this center roller hinge, but new ones will be unobtanium, and Wilbert's U-Pull It of Bath will have this one in inventory. And the bolts will have a chance of coming off without breaking, thanks to your diligence and Fluid Film (insert sheep's "baah" sound here).

    Thank you Eric for showcasing "" Luna "", the little darling !!!! And she was very talkative and lots of rubbing !!!! It just melts my heart how lovable these kitties are, and all they do for you - guard cat, alarm clock, #1 mouser, and they always have good things to say when they see you !!!!! That was a delicate job removing and installing that sliding hinge, disaster is waiting for that one careless moment you aren't paying attention !!!! I saw that oven masterpiece Mrs. O. was making for you and the kids - such a loving wife and mom !!!! The hinge install was flawless, paint it ?? No, you fluid filmed it. Painting is just cosmetic, not a show stopper. As you said, the van will be worn out and the unpainted hinge will still be indestructible !!!!! I put new high quality shocks on my truck. My wife asked why I was clear coating them since they were factory painted. I explained that the clear coating - 2 coats - was to make them still look like new 5 years from now, and not all rusted from rock dings !!! She didn't understand - it's a man thing !!!!! Women get their nails painted exotic colors AND then clear coat them - same principle. 😀😛👍

    Door hindges painted by the body shop were usually more screwed than bare metal!! Don't ask!! Fluid film seems perfectly acceptable!!
    Years ago VW had a trunk hinge problem. The replacement hinges were either zink or cadmium plated....good stuff. The whiner customers got the hinges painted.....more trouble than ever worth. The beautiful coated hinges never had a problem and never rusted!! Nice!!

From watching your videos and looking at the repairs on the vibe I could tell one shop was great, did good work, put things back together properly and used good parts. The other shop-no good, wires hanging, screws/bolts loose, missing. Poor quality parts (the dor*** type). Even viewers who do not do their own work have been taught by you what to look for to spot great/quality work. Millions and millions of people around the world are spotting good work thanks to you. When you think about the normal life of a sealed roller bearing it's revolutions are in the millions. I can't imagine these rollers saw even ten thousand revolutions and they're destroyed! Quality is a term no longer used in design and manufacturing.
    Nice work my friend and keep them coming!

    • @davidd.484
      @davidd.484 Před 2 lety +1

      Those rollers don't have ball bearings. The rollers are plastic/rubber with a brass sleeve in the center that functions as a sleeve bearing. Because that support is exposed to dirt, the brass sleeve bearing gets destroyed after around 10-years of use (where I live) and the rollers start dragging. Once this happens, the door will stop or reverse itself mid travel. The motion of the bracket gets so rough that the mechanism believes that something is obstructing the door. The safety systems kick in and stop/reverse the door. I think it would've been better to use a sealed bearing. That said, I don't know if they could make a bearing that small (about 10mm-15mm OD) that could take the weight of those doors.

    I had to do this same job on our ‘08 sienna a couple years ago when it started dragging against the bottom sill. I was curious how Mr O would do it. Aside from the minor differences in design between the years (the cable runs over in mine instead of under on this one) it was pretty much the same. I also had to go out and look at mine to verify it came painted black from the dealer so not need to paint or fluid film it.
    My wife has driven it for 14 years now and doesn’t want to get rid of it until the kids are out of the house and she can transition to something smaller. It is a tank.

    You said, "I'm a Toyota center hinge virgin". Then in about fifteen minutes, you went from virgin to surgeon! Good job, Eric!

    I had an upper door hinge roller replaced under warranty. They have to order the part. Send it to an auto body shop. 2-3 weeks after delivery to the dealer. Then no guarantees it comes back the same color. They finally switched autobidy shops after i completed my repair. They also forgot to call me that the part was in. All depends if you want to wait. Love the cat.

    Sounded like some of the other rollers / hardware needed a spritz of fluid film when the door was opening and closing.

    Parts cannon crew must of taken the day off today. Good vid. IDK with the New York "We R Rust" state, I might have sprayed some white primer on it. Down the road If the customer wants it to match the van let him get the rattle can. Just advise him to get some plastic or brown paper and some tape and a good solvent based cleaner that evaporates fairly quickly.

    Those Siennas were/are like Sherman tanks. They just go forever. We had an 08 bought new and sold it just a couple years ago - I'm convinced she was barely broken in. The sliding door was acting a *little* sticky, but worked. Thanks as always, Eric!
