- This 3D medical animation depicts carpal tunnel syndrome and carpal tunnel release. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a nerve disorder of the hand caused by compression of the median nerve. Two different types of carpal tunnel release are animated, an open carpal tunnel procedure and the endoscopic approach.

I just had mine done two weeks ago and I have never felt better.
Just had carpal tunnel release surgery this morning. I can tell these exercises will help a lot. Thx for posting!
This was the best decision I’ve ever made. I did my right hand in 2020 and just did my left one.
Under GA or local anaesthesia?
how old are you? I am 27 and I am scared that it happened to me very early. I was using a lot of computer because of my work in the school.
This was the best surgery I have ever had. I just wish I wouldn't have waited so long to have it.
It's been seven years ago and I am pain free!
mlvlatina Did it make your hand weaker? It's cutting a ligament, which seems to render that ligament useless. Isn't that ligament important somehow? Is your hand still as strong? Thank you!
mlvlatina how long before you were pain free after your surgery?
It's no actually a ligament. It's called in Latin "retinaculum musculorum flexorum", which's job is to keep the ligaments in place tightly. However it being cut isn't likely to cause strength change. Hope it helps, cheers! (Second year med student)
It doesn't it will sometimes feel quite different from what it originally was ;-;

.... 2 gånger höger.. Handled... 1 gång vänster.... Tittade på operationen... Finsk bra kirurg... 👍❤️✌️🇫🇴✍️🙃🌻🦋🤫
Thank you 🙏🏼
thank u
That's it.... it stays cut, I thought that band across the carpal tunnel is a tendon and wouldent your hand be floppy now 😂
I think the idea is that scar tissue eventually develops and connects the two severed ends which in effect, elongates the the ligament, creating more space and less likelihood of pressure on the nerve.
@@ramonteixeira6597 damn This was 5 years ago, thankfully i became a volunteer paramedic and know a bit more 😂😂, I wonder how many other comments I made about medical things years ago
That's a glow up lol
@@mtgamer731so can you explain what happens after its cut i really wanna know
@@w7vnoscar tissue will develop and eventually you’ll need surgery again ;))
Excellent information, thanks.
glad it helped. Amazing how many people suffer needlessly when this is one of the most staightforward and reproducible procedures that ANY hand surgeon does. I do recommend endoscopic as the recovery is much faster but all decompressions cure the issue and be aware that most "exercises" do not resolve the issue if truly compressed. Ironic as those get the most views....
I really need this surgery done
Been trying for eleven years to get this surgery, I now have permanent damage because doctors didn’t want to listen to my pain and symptoms.
You could try laser therapy, I am pain free now ;))
😮Ruuuuuun.. Smärtan innan........ Operation....... Omg 😢❤
So I just had that 2nd procedure done. As of now there's a bit of discomfort. I'm hopeful that the post-op pain will be minimal.
I am happy to read that the surgery was successful and worth the having. We should all be so blessed with such outcome. 😊❤😊
What the difference between the open and other procedure?
I get scheduled for the endoscopic procedure in 2 weeks..
(My doctor is booked for 2 weeks for surgeries).
This is the video form of what he told me / showed me in books and on my hand with a pen.
Right hand first. then my left hand after right heals..then after my left hand is healed. need to get my cubical tunnel done as well in left elbow (ulnar nerve). think i'm in good hands so far. (pun intended. hehe). thanks for the vid.
What all did you have done and were all surgeries successful?
I might need this done. I got massive carpal tunnel from playing electric guitar.
I literally stopped playing cuz couldnt play for longer than 15 mins cuz the uncomfortable feeling i felt and some sort of pain, but hard to describe the feeling
I am very similar to you
Love playing guitar and playing video games.
Few hours of playing games or just 30 mins on the guitar makes my wrist/arm flare up for days.
I went to a physiotherapist in the hopes that they would be able to help me. They gave me stretches to do a few times a week but they do nothing.
Really considering going to get it checked by a doctor in the hopes they can do something about it, and hopefully see if i can get this surgery
veri nice 3D animation
I’ve been experiencing this for two years now my doctor just told me I’m gonna have to get it done on both hands now I’m a HCA nurse I do transfers on my own and I’m an artiest you know how hard it is told a paint brush with numb fingers I’m happy it’s gonna get done soon
I've had cts for 5+ years now. We're thinking about surgery
I'm freaking 25 yrs old and I'm looking at having this done in the next few months. I'm right handed and I have also fractured my right arm and broke my right collar bone and also 2 weeks after that got into a car accident (wasn't my dad's fault as he was driving). I'm freaking terrified of needles even seeing me bleed from a hang nail makes me grossed out. But first within the next month or so I have to have a nerve test basically to confirm my neurologists diagnosis. I've tried the carpal tunnel braces and it has just gotten worse since I see him last (seen him yesterday) before that was 11months ago. As he's over an hr away. Yall may say that's nothing but it literally took forever to get in then I had to reschedule my apps due to my son needing me cause he was sick. I just started watching cause I was curious now I'm freaking terrified. But he says he's sending me to one of the best neurosurgeons there is in my state.
There's a group in FB I belong to. They discuss all this with emphasis on the ulnar nerve issue which is the most difficult to deal with.
Were you able to have it done? How was it?
updates?
I feel that I have degenerated disks and carpal tunnel at 19
so what happened to transverse ligament? grow back? I am pretty sure it has function.
Do you guys lose grip strength
NO loss og grip at late f/u. One month out, yes some minor loss that comes back
Anyone also have a Longitudinal partial split thickness tear of the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon repaired at the same time?
different issue. ECU tendon often related to underlying problems of the TFCC cartilage IN the wrist.
I been playing the backrooms and my wrist was hurting
Does that ligament reattach itself?
it heals but longer and without pressure on the nerve
in RARE cases, 3 that i can remember out of probably 5-6 thousand cases, there was true recurrance.
Didint had to wait long for a operation letter, but first of all I just throught it was a trap nerve but totally wrong, one week I had to wait for an operation but I'm nervous as hell. 6 weeks of work should cover it like a vacation lol
Is this done under a GA or local anaesthetic?
Depends on your dr, having mine done Monday with just a nerve block
Ok, but what is the point of that ligament that is cut? There’s no downside? What is/was the ligaments purpose?
You’ll lost your hand strength and eventually scar tissue will develop and you’ll need surgery again ;))
SO, if she/he cut the carpal tunnel, will it grow back ? Or its for a lifetime procedure ?
It will not grow back
mrogy it may grow back but unlikley if it does it usally takes a long time
it will grow back not for sure but it can by younger patients in 5 years
what happens to the cut ligament? should be a reason that it's there.Don't you think?
Scar tissue will form to reconnect it again adding the extra length needed.
reforms
NOT an issue
Are both procedure uses anesthesia?
yes but local with true sedation or now we do "digital sedation" meaning virtual reality to have you relaxed. you will feel pressure (like at dentist) but NO pain. see WAVR technique

Trust me you DONT want the open procedure. It's a LOT MORE PAIN! I've had both. No reason for open. If your surgeon wants to do that, it probably means he sucks.
