Jacques Delors' death reported on RTÉ News (27th December 2023)

RTÉ News reports on the death of Jacques Delors, who served as President of the European Commission between 1985 and 1995. The Frenchman was responsible for creating the single market, allowing the free movement of people, goods and services within the European Union, as well as laying the groundwork for the single European currency, the euro. Delors' death at the age of 98 came just five days before the 25th anniversary of the euro's introduction to world financial markets on New Year's Day 1999. Delors was also one of only a few famous people born before Queen Elizabeth II to outlive the monarch.
