      I have to admit that just learning about modding this was pretty annoying, but I actually like being able to create the rules for when the programs interact, but there aren't enough options to tell the mods how to behave in the load order, you should be able to designate which you want first and what group you want last so when you load in a new program it just plunks it in with regards to the rules you've established. That and that if you uninstall something it completely clears all the pre-existing rules around it, which you have to do just to get the masters check to run from time to time. I wish there were just a button to run the masters/conflicts detection.

    • @fresh218
      @fresh218 Před 2 lety

      It's better to create rules so LOOT API knows where to put your .esp and .esl files, if we were able to just drag and drop and sort with LOOT after it would just revert the manually dragged files.

      King ofSauce, yeah it’s so fucking annoying. I tried to import all my mods from nmm but only got the plugins not the ability to see the mods. Also, I had to manually click import for all the mods I was importing and had to manually enable the plugins with the frustration of some of them occasionally disabling by themselves for no reason. Then, I discovered that Vortex is still being worked on and so much more inconvenient. the whole load order system was built based on an assumption: the users do not know what the correct order is.
      and that is true in most cases, as the majority of mod users are NOT power users, but merely end-users who just want to plug-and-play the game.
      running into some load order bugs, post the load order to some mod sites and wait for days until some senpai to come and save the game is probably the last thing they want.
      this is where dependency kicks in, to ensure all the mods have their masters loaded first before themselves, this will guarantee all installed and enabled mods are indeed loaded in-game.

      I went from NMM to Vortex. I've been really happy with Vortex, but yeah, early on, it was kind of rough. I've been using it about as soon as it was available and now it's on 0.16.1.TESTING. It's much more stable than it used to be and I'm still very hopeful that it will soon become a standard. I think(assume?) it's going to be Nexus's replacement of Nexus Mods Manager (NMM). Once you understand mods enough you realize the mods managers pretty much do the same thing. Vortex is as non-"techy" as you can get with a product as "techy" as a mods manager...but it's still very intuitive (IMHO). I was at the point where I was considering trying out Mod Organizer when Vortex popped out so I tired it instead. Glad I did. I love it. But everyone's entitled to their own opinions. As long as mods from Nexusmods are supported. :)

    Great content. Thought I was getting quite good at this but you made it much clearer. Thankyou. I like Vortex for the most part. I think it is pretty good but there is too much reliance on a rules based approach and when that is wrong, it can be extremely annoying. A simple up and down arrow such as existed in NMM to overide the order would be nice. Manually addressing issues that autosort doesnt cope with seems more complicated than it needs to be. Also love that it gives loot alerts about patches I missed. I do worry that it will put new modders off but for a little effort it does a lot for you. I definately think that Vortex is a big step forward, it just doesnt come easily but it does reward the effort.

    Excellent tutorials as always, Gopher.
    I'm going to give Vortex a year or two to get better updated before I try it; by then maybe TES6 will be out and I'll use Vortex for it. I like the multi-tabs and having more functions to manage and keep a mods organized. However I have too many mods I deem essential that unfortunately are no longer on the Nexus, so without a truly trustworthy and perfect data transfer from NMM to Vortex, I'd end up playing without mods I want.
    NMM is (probably will always be) the better option for my Skyrim experience. It was easy to learn, navigate, manage and organize, and practically every Skyrim mod works with it, so for the game Skyrim I'm going to be using NMM until the day I finally delete it. Going forward for any new games I don't have mods on, I'll most likely use Vortex, otherwise I don't need it at this time.
    Just a nitpick with design choice, but why the hell did Vortex's team choose the messy tree format for Manage Groups? If the tree can grow by adding new groups and updates, it's going to be a royal pain in the ass to sort out. This is something I definitely hope gets changed in a later patch.

    Im one of the new people that just started modding skyrim and know nothing but vortex. It seems to work fine and im having a great time. It doesnt bug you unless 2 mods try to mess with the same part of the game and then it just asks you which one you want to load first. Ez-pz. Only problem is most information out there is for old mod managers. Thanks!

    I just downloaded a mod and the developer said, _"If you can't find it, put it lower down in your mod order."_
    Well. I couldn't find it and I thought. _"Oh! Poo! Not gonna get this mod working as I haven't a clue how to change mod order."_ 8-((...
    However. And your guide was great for me to start modding skyrim as I was clueless into setting it up from vanilla.
    So after reading/watching this video, lowering the order of my MOD was a cinch. And believe it or not. It worked!
    Went back into game and there is was. Everything perfectly working as it should do. 8-))...
    So thank you for taking the time out to post this idiot guide ;-))...

      Would be nice, hehe I just recently lost my archives, but of course it was actually my fault. Like a donkey, I left the download path in the user path, so when the change happened, well all my archives went bye bye. Not a big deal to redownload the files, just a time sync. Full on release would be nice though.
      The new feature (yes MO2 gents, I know you can do this already) to sort conflicts on a per file basis is very nice new addition. If Vortex continues to add to features I'm on board, but yeah, an official release would be nice to have.

      Vortex isn't gonna do more than mo2 it's designed to be user friendly. A lot of people especially younger people will try modding take one look at nmm or mo2 and give up. This is more to create a plug and play feel with a modern aesthetic but automating as much as possible

    • @GophersVids
      @GophersVids  Před 5 lety +9

      Honestly until Vortex gets custom plugins (which will be a long time) I see no reason for MO users to change. This may one day replace NMM but it really is not aimed at replacing MO as far as I can see.

      @Gopher Well done, thanks. I'm a professor. The clarity and completeness of your logos-based videos piqued my interest in the channel and in modding--it's fun to learn from you. Your MO series instructed me on how to set up a mod list for original Skyrim (December 2014). Your series on the improved NMM advised me how to set up a preSKSE Skyrim SE (November 2016) mod list. I appreciate the utility of Vortex for new modders. But your comment above may lead me to switch my SE list to MO after upgrading to a 1080Ti, perhaps over the Christmas break. . . .

    NMM was so much better than Vortex, mostly because if I needed to change my load order all I had to do was click and drag the plug in to where it should be. I'm now on my 5th try modding FONV with Vortex and I'm pretty much done with it. There was no need to change from the simple, minimalist, NMM to this mess. Awful UI, lack of manual control, and issues with it not even installing mod correctly are just the start of grips with Vortex. Let's not also forget about that god damn notification bell that won't shut up.
    Just looking at its ugly as sin UI is infuriating now. I fucking hate it. I'd be far less annoyed by this if you could still use NMM, but they've completely killed it.
