Great video of an interesting town...thanks, and at so little cost fares wise. Although some miles from the sea, surprisingly Selby was at one time a shipbuilding town with vessels, such as Fleetwood trawlers, launched sideways into the River Ouse.

I wonder how many towns in Britain today are still pursuing the industries and occupations which were their mainstay a century ago? There must be some but I'd imagine them to be few and far between. Thanks for watching and commenting.

A good day out for you and like the swing bridge, shame it was'nt operating at the time. Do like the old cathedrals.

Will it ever open again, do you think? I can't imagine there being much demand for navigating through to York in the future.
As the planned pub visit came to nought it's a shame I didn't visit the abbey but - hey ho - that's life!

After such an early start I am glad you got to fly the drone and got some really good video. The new line was planned for 125mph trains but actually with a bit of discreet tweaking easing curves and gradients disguised as alignment modifications needed for a bridge in one spot and some other things it became the only line apart from HS1 which at that time was not built to be capable of taking trains at well over 125mph. The engineers foresight of future fast through trains to the continent. Sadly It will probably never become a part of a high speed network of lines. It would of been nice if you could of travelled to York and had a quick look at the station there, then back to Manchester Oxford Road direct. Hopefully you can do that on another day.

I'm still trying to recover from Tuesday - definitely getting long in the tooth for these marathon sessions - should be sitting at home in my slippers watching the telly, not dashing between stations because my ticket is only valid on a specific train!
I must say I was surprised by the amount of traffic at Selby - its certainly not a quiet station.

@@schoolshorts I know how you mean and a lot younger than you. After walking a few miles today making video I resorted to using the lift to change platforms and now resting my achy hip. Still good to get out while we can though. In days of BR it was so much easier, none of this you have to use that train you just went by any reasonable route. Selby is still a busy line yes. I missed out on a day there at work, that day they had the bridge opened while stood on it. They took some video in the engine room as well which I have on a drive somewhere.

Thanks PGW. These offers don't come up too often so it's good to hear of people putting them to use. Unfortunately my local company ScotRail don't seem to go in for them.

Lovely video Tim. Nice to see Drax working & a solitary wind turbine stationary, net zero anyone. Was that a house chimney fire at about 17 mins?

Thanks Laurence. I hadn't registered the Drax/turbine contrast - well spotted!
Chimney fire? If it is - he's got serious problems!!!

He had his young son with him - who looked distinctly unimpressed by his father's antics.
