  • Yesterday we saw D213 Andania hauling The Whistling Highlander from Crewe to Inverness call at Carlisle to pick up passengers. Late this afternoon it was due to return - and did - but then something went wrong.
Watch the video and all will be revealed.

A fine looking locomotive, the 40, one of the best ever but sadly overweight and under-powered. Another great favourite of mine was the 52, the Western, which like the 40 had all too short a working life.

Your right about the 40, another loco i'd like to see would be the 50's or Hoovers as they are called.@@schoolshorts

Aww it would have to happen with the main event, but you did get the arrival you would of missed with the drone, which was nice to see. The 4 car unit running fast to Leeds looks poor planning when they run half empty, unless it gets full on the way North.

Between editing problems with the previous day's film and failing to capture the departure on day 2 - remember the Curse of Flimby? - it looks as though I've picked up a new curse - the Curse of Andania! Ah well - we've just got to make the most of whatever we manage to get on the day.
No special trains here for three weeks or so but I've got a couple of cheap away days so may manage some film material then. As the days lengthen, provided the weather's OK I may manage to finish off Volume 4 of The Port Road. Might even catch up on some house work too!

@@schoolshorts I seem to have bad luck with class 40's Today is shopping day and D200 was dragged from York to Shildon so could not get out to see that. I noticed the sound is back to normal on this video, hopefully the curse has gone, Flimby I am not sure of. I will look out for your next videos, our trip to Scotland was enjoyed with good bright days and home via Ayr then towards where you are but took the duel carriage towards Carlisle instead of into town. I am catching up with house work this week. Getting a room prepared to decorate.

Thanks for a nice video of Carlisle station. There's a lot to see here for a railway enthusiast. Quite a few freight services trundling past the main line platforms too. On my occasional visits to Carlisle on Summer Saturdays, I'm sometimes pleasantly surprised by seeing steam train excursions stopping at the station.

It is, as you say, a good location for an enthusiast, bright, open and airy with a friendly staff. Although I live 45 miles away, access is easy with a regular train service (except on Sundays!) and very cheap fares on ScotRail. Lots of steam too.

@@schoolshorts I wonder how it compares to York station for the variety of trains passing through.

@@frglee York sees more operating companies than Carlisle but not nearly so many steam specials. I would suggest that the various routes out of York lack the superb scenery of the various lines radiating from Carlisle. I've never filmed on York station so can't say how it compares with the Border City as a cinematographic venue. Lots of human interest at both and, of course, when you move out of the station York wins hands down!

Oh dear, it's like you think you've been leaving your phone to charge for a nice long time, but then you find that the charger hasn't been in exactly right so it hasn't done anything 🙄😒 Still, some nice closeup shots, if that's any consolation

Serves me right - I should have taken up something sensible like gardening or tiddlywinks!
