@@kman5768They are to an extend but the central government of Guyana and the minister of local government still has the last say when it comes to raising rates and taxes of lands and property in the towns throughout Guyana they can be increase. The local government and central government has to approve rates and taxes before they can be increased. So the mayor and city council does have control over that. Also, the mayor and city council has hired employees but they cannot them without the approval of the minister of local government. I find that rules, especially, silly because if I have the power to hire you, why don’t the power to fire you. To me that is eroding the power that the mayor and city council has. Not a democratic to me. The bottom line is the central government of Guyana and minister of local government in Guyana by their power can prevent the mayor and city council from doing their jobs by refusing to sign off on certain things. And they do by playing party politics. That is not good for Georgetown nor the other towns in Guyana. And it is also not good for Guyana’s democratic process.
Thanks for sharing your video on a "masterpiece" You didn't explain why it was considered a masterpiece. Who owns it? Is it a Best Western international chain? Who designed it? Who built it? What did it cost to build? The wide sidewalk covered the drains and that's nice to see. Not going to ask about overhead water tank or sewage system.....those are negative issues until the countries wealth is ready to tackle them.
