How to Safely Store Gasoline

- Gas prices are at all time highs, with some stations in Los Angeles showing prices of well over $7 per gallon. Some people think this is a great time to stock up on gasoline, in case prices go higher. But it’s important to remember to only fill and transport approved containers for gasoline, as ignoring safety hazards can be deadly. Chief Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro showed Inside Edition’s Alison Hall how to store and transport gasoline safely.
Some pumps give more than a gallon just look at the "county division of weights and measures" sticker on the gasoline dispensers. It will tell you how much of a gallon it gave on the last inspection.
Thank you I'll look more into that
where is the sticker usually placed ?
Also try to get your gas when it cold outside
@@nalee1 I will buy gas during the winter. DUH
I have a two gallon tank that I filled up exactly two gallons however the meter said it was more and charged more lol. Typical California greed
I wanna know who tested transporting 5 5-gallon containers to know 4 was the limit
lol
I have transported as many as 10 and never had a problem
My best assumption is that if all those containers were to ignite it would be incredibly devastating
Can you do a piece on How To Siphon Gas?
That might be more useful.
This comment is golden. 🤣🤣
@learn2farm509 that's worse, then thieves will just drill a hole in the bottom of the gas tank and drain it that way!...😯
For everyone commenting “OMG why would anyone stock up on gas with these prices” I think the idea of the video is that you might find one gas station out of town that has a reasonable price and stock up from there.
@Fatbutnice Nice In what world was my comment defending Biden?!
@Fatbutnice Nice 🙄

Oh boy here we go..
Ahhh naturel selecting at its finest
@@budredhead00twitchy it’s a troll friend, ignore him lol
I actually really appreciate this instructional video, because I'm going to be starting driving soon and I'm terrified of a fire starting due to gas spilling.
Right now is probably not the best time to stock up on gasoline due to the cost. Also due to safety risks it’s probably never a good time to. ⛽️🔥
Yep my dad owns a construction company and we had diesel, gas and oil stored in our garage for all our equipment. Our vans breaks caught on fire inside the garage and next thing ya know we didn’t have a house anymore.
@@youtubesucksalot4869 damn sorry to hear
Isnt that crazy? You cant really store it. I was very tempted when prices were lower.
It’s just gonna get higher and higher why not just don’t be like those people filling there trunks with trash bags of gas 😂😂😂
Most containers say right on the label to never put it in the passenger compartment because of fumes.
Who in their right mind would buy gas at this price just to STORE it???
Buy high sell low
guess someone who buys it. dilutes it and sell for "cheap".
or people making meth..
Bc in a month the gas prices will be even higher....... so if they buy it now they'll be paying less down the line.
Goes up like btc
People who think it'll b $10 a gallon next week
Thanks for teaching me what a gas can is, and how to fill it up with gas.
Yes they next need to teach us how to open the car door and turn on the car ignition next.
was wondering why this was recommended, by thank you for the niffy knowledge sirs
this reminds me of a couple of videos i seen a while back. one someone was filling trash bags with gasoline and in another someone filled a truck bed like one of those kiddie pools.
INSIDE EDITION
ALWAYS BREIF AND VERY INFORMATIVE
They neglected to mention where to store the gasoline when you get it home. I use to have a gas lawn mower so I stored that gasoline in my outdoor shed. I wonder if it is safe to store it in the garage though. I did'nt just in case fumes leaked out. What about you?
In the living room on the 🛋
What about in the trunk of your car? That’s where mine is in case I run out of gas
Great question because I store mine in the the garage
Next to my kitchen so my dogs wont get it
I put mine in the refrigerator. It lasts longer that way. It blends in with the juice cartons so it doesn’t look bad.
Congratulations, you’ve encouraged future gas scalpers to store it and sell it for 4 times the price.
Shelf life is only 3-6 months so.....no.
Bro shut up this is important for people to know.
People were still gonna do it, might as well teach them to do it safe. 🤷
@@MorrisWilsonFvcks Yeah, this sort of thing has been done for hundreds of years, and there’s no stopping it…
@@deadringer2349 Yeah, but the practice of scalping has been done for so long now.
Also carrying plastic gas containers full of fuel in vehicles with plastic bed liners is dangerous too. Static electricity can cause a spark causing an explosion. I’ve seen it happen.
A man had just filled his plastic gas containers for his skiff and set them in the back of his truck (with plastic bed liner), skiff in tow. He pulled out to cross the hwy, stopped in the middle to wait for oncoming traffic then took off in a hurry, not 20 feet, BOOM!!💥 there was an explosion that started from the back bed that followed all the way to the back of the boat. It was such an explosion that it blew the boat off the trailer and it landed upside down in the middle of the hwy in flames, the rear of the truck was in flames also and the side panels had blown off the truck, the man did manage to jump out and run away as most of the blast was in the rear and he was moving. By the time the fire trucks arrived everything was pretty much destroyed.
@learn2 farm It was determined that it was a spark caused by static electricity from the plastic gas can sliding on the plastic bed liner which caused the spark. I’m just repeating what the article said, idk if that’s the truth. Hard to believe.
Every gas nozzle says not to top off(never tapit) but if you say so Fire Marshal!!!!!
If only companies raise the wage as well as their products and services does.
Lmao for all those people who just havent heard of a jerry can or somehow just havent seen one in their whole time owning a car 😅😂
Safety first
I generally use either a 5-gallon trash bag or a home depot bucket without a lid
Do some research on the "Approved containers". You can't pour them at all. Get the Race Car Gas Tanks for your "Race Car". :)
And here I was thinking almost $4/gal was bad......at nearly $8/gal, I'd just stop driving altogether.......or if anything at least start car pooling to work and splitting the gas.
Sometimes you have no option. I live in a NY town with no public transportation, so...not an option here.
@@mvanv I know someone who use to walk 15 miles to work everyday......anything's possible if the mind is strong enough to endure the options.
You should open each day just to get the expansion out.
Still remember seeing that dude who filled up the bacl of his pick up truck with gas man that dude endangered everyone
Would have been nice to know why they don't suggest caring more than 4 containers in your vehicle. Google, here I come....😂
What state this
Kool I saved money on gas now
No more than 4 gallons to transport? What happens if you have 4 1/2 gallons? Who made up that rule?
So where do we store it afterwards
1st the video about radiation safety now this? It’s a sign to be prepared
😆 why did you show them...you seen what they did with the toilet paper.
Gas goes stale and toilet paper doesn't 🤣
I live in Vancouver, Canada gas here costs $9.30 per gallon
How long can gas be stored
holy moly crackamoly thanks for the tips
Also remember, the properties of gasoline have changed over the years. I have thrown lit cigarettes onto pools and containers of gasoline and the gasoline just puts the cigarette out. It's harder to ignite than you think.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@tnr2217 It's true. One guy didn't believe me until I poured gas on the ground in front of him and threw a cigarette on it and he witnessed it for himself then he was really surprised.
@@eagle25311 I will have to resist my curiosity on this hypothesis.
@@tnr2217 It's not a hypothesis it's a fact I've done it more than once.
sounds crazy but true lol the same if you throw a lit cig in a tank of gas
“Don’t hoard gas during this crisis “
“ but also here’s how you
Would do it safely”
Yeah no, there's a difference
@@Abelcable_ i think you misread the post cuz ur comment doesn’t make sense in context
@@drugsarebad97 yeah lol
There's a difference because no one said that. Not sure why your statements were in quotation marks either.
@@Abelcable_ you must be foreign
for i second i thought it said how to safely stare gasoline i was like what? lol
I didn't see a Joe Biden Sticker on that pump . '' I DID THAT '' 🤣
Damn news always giving the thieves knowledge, this is basically a training video 🤦🏼♂️
Goes bad after 3 month?
Its about time America should change it’s infrastructure for bike riding against obesity.
Onkel Klaus , Alter, was Du nicht sagst !
But am I supposed to drill into other people’s gas tanks or should I get a siphoning device for their cars?
Better to get a drill so you can get the catalytic converter too.
so about storing as in your title?
It's only $4.19 a gallon where I live but still that's hell expensive it went way up
4.69 is cheapest here
$5.05 in Vegas $4.50 @ Sams Club.I use premium so like $5.50
@@canicksmith6629 I live there too, the cheapest I saw was 4.69 and 5.05 for P
@@canicksmith6629 well the next cheapest was 4.89 and 5.15
Coming to your home soon
Noooo they don’t say how to store gas safely I’m dead
filled up my car today! $48 for 12.5 Gal
Under $4 well done!! Not for long though.
where I live our gas hit 4$ then started going back down after that.
Not a big fan of hoarding, but this makes me concern if I should do it now more than ever.
"Tap the nozzle to avoid dripping" same thing my girlfriend tells me all the time🤣🤷🏿♂️👍🏿
oo
In Kentucky it’s 4
In Idaho it’s $4.19
This has to be the most expensive video on youtube
Gas at sam's club in Clearwater fl is 4.08 😆 🤣 😂
Dang people aren't playing
Put it on the ground? I was getting ready to balance it on my head. Thanks Inside Edition.
Onion news is becoming realer and realer
Just had 2 coworkers ask me to build them 1 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dam usa u too we in australia have the same problem
here come the toilet paper hoarders, taking notes
Ye it’s getting real expensive
Okay, headed down to my local station with a lighter as we speak.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
Why would you want to store gas when it is high? I haven't heard anything about a shortage.
I have one at my parents house.
Yeah say that to most folks here in Asia.. lol they use random bottles like for cooking oil and etc haha never heard or seen an issue.
You didnt advice the public on rolling their car windows down for free air while transporting the gasoline as the stench of gasoline could cause hazards.
Wow
These prices got me hallucinating. I thought it said "how to safely steal.."
I mean it’s crazy how they have to make a video on fuel and what to put it in
Who woulda ever thought it would come to this ...
Sara, i've lived long enough to see this happen . I turn 81 early next month. the 70s embargo then later the mid 80s . when you'll be my age ( of course i will be long gone ) you'll see this happen again and again.
i was foru years old when the war ended and let me tell things were really really bad.
doesnt gas go bad after a month?
I store my gas like my paw paw did in a hot ass shed outside..
I’ll stick with siphoning my neighbors gas at night seems to be the cheaper route 😉
Funny, my landlord has had a red container of gas sitting outside his door for weeks lol
Holy freaking cow. $7 for a gallon? Wow.
Inside Edition would you please help me to Reach Shark?
For starters you do it the hurricane panic method you place your approved Walmart plastic bag on the ground and fill it and then tie it off . Also it works best with a hole . If you don't have a Walmart bag use a Ziploc freezer bag , preferably with a hole . (Btw i am joking . People do be doing stupid stuff though )
@learn2 farm Bruh specialty fuel bags lol
I stay in the Bay area and I go to Hayward and there's a certain gas station in Hayward where it's only like $4 and something since a gallon
The only way to safely store gasoline in California is to keep an eye on it and carry a weapon.
It’s even expensive to fill up my Geo Metro. SMH
Damn
Buy the gas dip
Gas Prices going up every day……..🥶
Wouldn’t that create more demand and higher the price
Pshh Cali is all about expensive everything if that makes sense paying $3.89 for premium here in Colorado as we speak so guess it certain states obviously
$5 in Vegas $5.50 for premium.
Next inside edition will show us how to steal gasoline 😃
Gasohol is so expensive
When you live in japan and want to buy a gas using a container.
The best place to store your gasoline is ontop of your stove. personally i prefer the bbq grill but that's just me.
Hi
So the always Sunny guys had it right
*Laughs in Tesla*
I get my Tesla on Wednesday!!!
Never transport more then 4 5gal cans of gas.... 😆 😆 😆 😆 That's funny
Lmao 😂 they teaching some adults how to properly fill up a gallon gas can 💀 been filling them up since I was 8 while my dad would go pay for gas since he has his own landscaping business.
If people really that desperate to buy dozens of jerrycan, just buy a drum or even tanker trailer
Lol don't throw gas in a paper bag please. 😃
Pumping gas FEAR at this channel

If ones of those gasoline bottle even sparks in that person truck their is gonna be an explosion close to a grenade in that truck or car! Geez was that like seven canisters?
If you need to fill more than 4 gas cans, you should probably just get a small fuel cell in the car.
Put it in the freezer... Lmao!
