Those lalas are Kriles parents
they really set the stage to create that expectation, it's not layers deep or anything. Even the camera angles and placement of the lala looking to the right from the left side of the camera to krile being on the right and looking left etc.
they LOVE to dangle and yank it away, or give it to you but then drop 10 extra layers on top of you right after so that original revelation doesn't even register on the scale anymore
so yeah probably, but i'm certain there's significantly more to that than we could even fathom at current. SOON.
Two huge theories right now are: the Maiden & refugees are from another sundered shard that no longer exists! The other one it that they are survivors from another planet like the Dragons that escaped their End of Days! I want it to be something totally new & unique!

Yoshi-P doesn't have it in him to kill off a character, though I think if done right it would be amazing - and to be honest I don't think the community could take it, either. FFXIV is basically comfort food: the MMO. Fulfil expectations and do the same stuff over and over or everyone riots.
