There's just no way anyone involved in this "film" would've thought that scene was a good idea!! I refuse to believe ANYONE saw this and thought "Fucking nailed it!!!" this had to be a movie made to launder money or some other financial crime, because that's the only thing that makes sense. @@secludedmisanthrope6388 no, people (directors, script writers, whoever greenlit this film for production) are just weird. someone thought that scene was necessary and added to the story or added to the audience's experience. you'd have to be in their mind at the time to find out. i say "at the time" because many directors etc., have gone "i don't know what i was thinking." and that's hilarious because life is like that sometimes, especially when you're creating something and working under pressure, the human mind can warp. i will say that the way this movie is completely over the top was the style at the time. When A Stranger Calls is a landmark film but the opening scene which inspired virtually all horror movies that came after it literally looks like a parody because of how hard the soundtrack and visuals hit the viewer over the head. i think it's because modern films are derivatives of When A Stranger Calls and i think the same can be said for The Car.

When you see bad movies now, everyone wants to say, well the creator made it that way intentionally, to be funny or whatever and that is unacceptable. Garbage needs to be called out as garbage...

Having [barely]lived through the 70s, I can tell you that, yes; our cars were very hazardous. I mean, you had to be careful with how you closed the doors. If you closed them too hard, you ran the risk of causing your car to go into a barrel roll, and bursting into flames. And getting into a rear end collision was sure to cause you to be launched 30 feet into the air, invert you, and land you on the back of a semi trailer.
Of course, if you yelled, "HOLD ON!", you'd survive. Then you'd crawl out the windows, rub your head, and take your "These" pills for a few days until you weren't sore.

I adore this movie, mostly for The Car itself. The "evil wind" is an old school demonic trope, the hot winds of hell. And yes, I would pass on the sequel. It has very little to do with the original movie and is more like a scifi domestic abuse story mixed with Knight Rider and then a poorly built replica of The Car shows up for about 3 minutes at the end. I actually loved this film when I was a kid, watched it on some late night showing on TV, and yes, I saw all the silliness of it years later rewatching it, and you nailed it again, your commentary was hilarious on this one.
There were some pretty well filmed scenes in the car, everyone seems to love the one where it comes crashing through the house killing his girlfriend, personally my favorite is where it makes itself almost crash, tumbling sideways over the cop cars, I mean it looks awesome, just absolutely brutal, not too mention the way they edited it was fantastic, that entire scene just happens sooo fast it kind of just blows you away the first time you see it.
Ok, enough of my love fest with the car lol, great review , maybe you could do The Wraith next time😋
