    Thanks for sharing, this helped me fix my Neo Geo. I had a broken pin on my socket (but I was the id10t who installed it..)

    I really enjoyed watching you diagnose the problem with this Neo Geo AES, and I learnt a lot too ;) Great video!

    That camera shake at 0:35 when you popped the cart in. Surely, the whole world trembled.

    To "trace" a trace, I just use a fine tip permanent marker, and "dot" along it - wipes off with isoprop after.

    Played the video at 1.5x and still understood you perfectly. No need to apologize for your accent! Even some Americans are unintelligible to other Americans. :) I do think it's weird that you guys get isopropyl inside spray cans. :D

      Mate you've got a lot of decent content already! But off the top of my head, and I know you've covered this a lot already, but really getting into the RGB / HDMI mods that are being developed for retro consoles. Reckon the Gamecube has a couple of promising HDMI mods hitting the scene? Have you looked into audio upgrades for the mega drive model 2 as well?

      The gamecube has a hdmi adaptor.Just plugs in the digital port on the rear.

    Good video , bit harsh calling someone a f'in idiot..most likely it was learning to fix and destroyed the trace and did not know how to fix. Subbed and thumbs up.

    The new mic is excellent. Your previous mic was muffled. I think the problem was mainly the absolute volume. I had to crank my laptop up to 150% volume to make out what you were saying. There are lots of great Australian CZcams creators I enjoy. If you're a native speaker it's more difficult to notice muffled speech. Many Americans have muffled speech in their videos. My videos in particular are not great, due to poor equipment. You really need a standalone mic to have good audio, or probably speech training.

    • @GlobalGarageAus
      @GlobalGarageAus  Před 6 lety

      The new Mic sounds a lot better to me. Yes the old one was just difficult to get a clear recording from unless I spoke directly into it. The new Blue Yeti is the choice of other CZcamsrs, so I went with that.

    Darren what size Tips do you use when desoldering the AES Bios with your Duratech ?............0.8,1.0 and 1.3mm for example

    • @GlobalGarageAus
      @GlobalGarageAus  Před 6 lety +1

      I use the smallest one I have which is approx 1.3mm. Any larger than that and it doesn't have the sucking power to clear out the hole (that sounded dirty)

    Hi. Thanks for your great videos. I have gone over more you have posted trying to see if I can diagnose mine. My neo geo actually plays games but recently there are hundreds of with dots on the screen. You can still see the game playing but the hundreds of dots (about 1 millimeter in size) are equally distanced apart all over the screen. Do you have an idea on what the problem could be? My first try will be to replace all the internal capacitors as I know how to do these from changing lots on the FM Towns Marty I have dealt with. But I am not familiar with the Neo Geo board. Let me know if you have an idea. Thanks for these amazing videos!

    • @GlobalGarageAus
      @GlobalGarageAus  Před 2 lety

      Possibly a bad power supply. Is it aftermarket?

    • @ner38073
      @ner38073 Před 2 lety

      @@GlobalGarageAus Thanks for your reply. I actually have two snk genuine power supplies in working order. I also thought about the av cable by I tried another and there is no difference. My serial number is actually high and it is one of the late and newer neo geo consoles. I have had it for about 15 years and nearly played a few times. The console looks like new I don't really have an idea on the problem causing the messed up screen. The intro of any game when it says warning the games are only to be used in Japan....looks really clear with no problems, but when the game intro starts the issue starts. It is not the games. I actually have two systems of each I have. One bit up to play and a really nice one to display. So the bit-up one plays good and the one for display is my faulty one :(

    This is weird when I socketed my AES bios the exact same solder pad came off! Remember, always check if you ripped something and if so put a tiny jumper wire to fix it.

    • @GlobalGarageAus
      @GlobalGarageAus  Před 6 lety

      Yep that pin seems to have a lot of solder on it, so if you're not careful it'll lift right off. Desoldering any chip can be tricky if you rush it. The gun I have was the best investment I ever made.

    • @mgonzalezflesca
      @mgonzalezflesca Před 6 lety

      Me too, I was sick of ripping traces of older PCBs so I bought a desoldering gun. They can be quiet expansive but there are some around 75$ that do the job perfectly.

  • @TB-nf6bs
    @TB-nf6bs Před 3 lety

    I ripped off a trace doing to the bios socket the same way. My aes worked fine beforehand. I took it to two shops that microsolder they won't follow my request of desoldering the pins professionally and inspect that area because we all myself included find continuity through the whole board so im scratching my head im not sure if it's not getting enough of a connection or what. I only own basic soldering tools and because I botched it once already im too nervous to remove the socket by myself again and check 😭 ive emailed a bunch of shops and made phone calls and no one will help im at a loss right now

      Which power supply was plugged into it? These things use 9V DC Im fairly sure. If you want to donate it to the channel I'll make a video on it, but otherwise I'll have to pass sorry as I already have plenty of broken stuff to fix :)
