- Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness Area - Forest Road 525 - Dispersed Camping - Sedona Arizona- I discovered a nice dispersed camping spot off of forest road 525 south of Sedona Arizona in the Coconino National Forest. Right next to me was the Red Rock that most people come to explore while in the area. The red rock mountains light up when the setting/rising sun hits them just right. Beautiful area to check out and do some dirt biking and hiking!
As of now, looks like there's only designated spots to camp along this road. See Pinned Comment in the comment section.

I went to that area this past weekend and there is no longer dispersed camping. There are only (8) designated areas along FR525 where camping is allowed. They were all packed when I was there so I just drove back home to Mesa. I was pretty deflated. I did not have a contingency plan. I really like your videos. You are pretty informative. Thank you.
That's sad to hear. It sounds like they stopped dispersed camping down that road. I'll pin this comment, maybe it'll help someone else out. Thanks for watching.
It's because some campers trashed the area with complete disregard to nature.
That’s the type camping I’d love to do
I've been wondering where you've been! Hope to get back to AZ this winter and check this place out. Absolutely beautiful. Safe travels!
It's definitely a spot to visit and check out the red rocks. Beautiful area!
Wow! Gorgeous views and now I’ve added that area to my bucket list. Also just have to say - too funny how you seem to love your burger and fries like most of us do! Was great to see another one of your videos - really enjoy them
Thanks Emily. I love burgers, you can go wrong when you order one. LOL Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your amazing experience!
I have been to that area once before and it is surely beautiful. Mark, what a great job with the video once again and an excellent job of showing a nice variety of your experience. Good on 'ya dude. Your videos are worth the wait and I get quality, not quantity. Happy trails !!!
Many thanks!
Looks very nice there! Glad to see you back, your videos are very informative! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Awesome content as always ! Thanks, Mark !
Glad you enjoyed it
Been patiently waiting for another video, and it was worth the wait. Thanks for producing the good content.

This was a fabulous video. Love your drone work and detailed map. Man what a beautiful place! I could stay there for a while for sure.
Glad you enjoyed it! You should definitely check this spot out if you are in the area. There were lots of class B's camping out there while I was there.
i’m headed to 525 tomorrow so your vid was immensely helpful. thanks!
Glad it helped!
love your videos! Just found your channel! subscribed!
Try FS 618, is opposite 179 entering to Sedona from the 17. It is a gorgeous area connecting back to the 260 near Camp Verde allowing free camping.
Thanks for the tip! When I'm back in that area, I'll definitely check it out!
Az native here I love your videos. Great spots. Hope you do more az. Thanks
Thanks Sammy! I'm definitely doing more Arizona Vids. I'm heading out to Quartzite end of January for the RTR and February for the truck camper rally. I'll be checking out other spots to camp while I'm there. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful! Your drone shots are the best I've ever seen.
Wow, thank you! The scenery I had to work with camping made it easy. LOL Beautiful area around there!
That red rock country is unreal. I love Sedona. I do remember traveling to a place very close to where you are now called "Oak Creek Canyon." It was a spectacular drive. Thanks for sharing this place with us. Much appreciated.
Red Rock Country is beautiful, lots to see and lots of hiking if you are into it. Thanks for watching!
Most beautiful place you have been too so far , hope your enjoying the west !!
Definitely enjoyed Arizona.
thanks for video!
You bet!
We just recently discovered and subscribed to your channel. We just sold our fifth wheel and ordered a truck camper. Thanks for sharing so many outstanding videos. We can’t wait to get started. Safe travels and may God bless!
Awesome! Thank you! Safe travels!
25 miles from where my sister lives beautiful country there! Great video!
Thanks!
Thanks for posting
You bet!
Hey! Missed your vids! I used to live in Phoenix. Miss the dessert, too! Glad to see you.
I really loved the desert. I'll definitely be back for sure.
As you would say you got it going on. Thanks
That area in fact, did!
I camped here before. It gets pretty cold at night (low 20's in January) and a hot air balloon crashed in the middle of the road. My Audi at the time had a misfired spark plug and AAA was going to take 2.5 hours coming from flagstaff, so I hitchhiked to Sedona, rented a uhaul and car trailer and drove my car back to tempe (I went to ASU at the time). Good times.... I should probably get out there and give it another go so I can redeem myself
Sedona is a nice area to check out and camp. Where I was at, they changed it to no dispersed camping, now they have designated spots to camp at on that road from what I am hearing. Safe Travels!
cool story thanks for sharing
Great videos Mark
Glad you like them!
New subscriber great video buddy
Thanks for the sub!
Such a beautiful place Mark. I've been there a couple of times. You did such a wonderful job filming and showing it. As always, it was good to see you again. I guess you're back home in Arkansas and will be doing some more camping around there. Take care and remain safe. I'm glad you did not get taken by a Cougar. I'm sure there's a few stalking you every now and then. LOL.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm back in Arkansas for the summer and I'll be out in the Ouachita and Ozark National Forests. Lots more areas to check out in those two forests. Thanks for watching Chief!
Nice area.🙂👍
Yes it was!
Hope all is well brother!
Great!
Heading this way.
Have Fun!
That is a very nice camp site. Leah and I love that area. Are you going back out West this winter? Great video!
Not sure yet! I'm seriously thinking about going to the truck camper rally at Quartzsite in February. I missed it this year. I'll make a decision the end of this year.
Thank you for sharing Arizona with us! Are you heading back to the Midwest for the summer? I went through Sedona about 12 years ago. Beautiful area
I'll be spending the summer in Arkansas visiting family. Then I'll most likely head back out West and pick up where I left off at. Thanks for watching!
The good life!
True!
Thank you your video was very informative exactly what I needed to know. Wondering, how likely is getting a flat tire on that road in a Class C
I didn't have any issues with flats on that road. It's a little wash boardy in places, but still drivable.
Not a biggie deal....but..cell service.n groceries shopping....other wise. Great post bud....
OK Bud...
LOL I camped up on the hill with all the people, same spot as the truck camper. I normally avoid people and other campers but it was worth it for sunset and sunrise, and watching the hot air balloons.
LOL I was tempted to camp up there, but when I passed through trying to find a spot, it was really crowded up there. It would be a great spot to camp at if you could find it deserted. LOL
Oh yeah........
👍😊
Very nice...camped there is April. Hey, what is the make n model of your motorcycle?
2018 Honda Rally 250.
Thx!
Any suggestions for dispersed camp location near s.entrance of Yellowstone. Also looking for west and or north. Have family trip coming up and any info would be appreciated as we've never been.Planning on visiting the south end and north but save the east side for another day.thanks
I haven't been to that area yet, but it is on my must check out list for sure. Have fun on your trip!
Hey! Went here the other day and all the camp spots were closed besides the 2-3 big ones where all the RVs are. Any idea on that? Maybe they close them during winter?
I was there a couple of years ago and you could camp anywhere. I just looked on iOverlander and folks are saying they have closed that whole road except for a couple of designated camping area. I guess it was getting overused so they made a couple of designated camping spots only.
Hey Mark, so this is your last SW trip video? That must mean a whole new slew of home turf camping videos, dispersed style of course.. I know how you enjoy riding your motorbike around the forest roads. See lots of good stuff fast. I'm just wondering if you have watched "Itchy Boots" on YT? 5 years riding her bike all over the world, currently just entering Namibia. She was just given an impromptu tour of a Diamond mine by a security force. Very interesting. If you've never seen her, she does a good job. As for me, I'm charging batteries and hiking the Lewis River Tomorrow. Take care...
I'm staying the summer in Arkansas, checking out the forest areas here. I haven't seen Itchy boots. I'll check her channel out. Have fun on your hike!
This spot was awesome! I'm planning on going up there at the end of the month with some buddies but I heard that camping is closed around there. Did you have any trouble with that?
I was there back in March and didn't see any camping areas that was closed. If you are hearing that it is closed, I would suggest you have a back up plan just in case it is closed. I do hope it isn't. Let me know what you find out.
@@DispersedCamperMan I'll let you know, thanks :)
Hello, would a van be ok on 525? Or do I need 4x4? Winter months
You should be fine with a class B. There were several vans there dispersed camped along that road. Even a class a motorhome was camping off that road. No 4x4 needed.
@@DispersedCamperMan Right on. Thanks for responding and also the great content!
This area is now closed to dispersed camping. The only one i know of around the area is down the Hwy about 10 for miles on AZ trust land. A permit is required BUT there are mostly overrun by homeless people living there waaaay past the 14 day limit. Run down and unsafe to stay even for a night now. So sad that the land is treated like this
I live in Sedona, and I can tell you that Secret Mountain Wilderness is not south of Sedona. It is north of Sedona. Yes, you do go south on 89A to Forest RD 525 which heads NE. There are also other ways to access this. One is from the north from rt. 66 which is north of the area.
You are correct, Thanks for sharing!
Did you need to obtain a restock pass to camp or can you just drop on in?
When I was there, no pass needed. Just drop in.
@@DispersedCamperMan awesome Great videos I love Sedona now I’m looking to camp in Sedona your video was a great help
Can I shoot on this land ?
I don't think you can. I didn't hear any shots or see any places to shoot.
Videos and pictures never do justice to the colors of the desert.
