Car Talk - A Tribute to Tom

  • Hello there:
This video is a tribute to Tom. R.I.P. and my condolences to his family and friends.
What can one really say in a time like this, so words seem inadequate to express the sadness, so with that being said, may his loved ones take comfort in knowing that he was beloved by so many strangers around the world, not just by friends and family, he mattered to so many and brought laughter and joy to so many and that is something that so many of us just dream of leaving that kind of legacy behind.
I never really liked listening to anything on a radio before those 2 guys, it was back in 2001 when my TV was sort of broken, so I was looking for some interesting stuff to listen to on radio and I found some interesting stuff on (BBC) and then I found (NPR) and it was completely by accident that I got (NPR) station and it happened to be (Car Talk's air time, and I have been listening ever since, so because of their show I got to know some of the other shows on (NPR) like (Paul Harvey - The Rest of the Story)
(Dr. Laura Schlessinger) (Ira Flatow - Science Friday) (Neal Conan - Talk of the Nation) (Robert Siegel and Michele Norris - All Things Considered) (The Kim Komando Show) and time to time (The Rush Limbaugh Show) 'Now' all of those shows were great in their own right, but (Car talk) was really something else (Tom and Ray) was just amazing, the show was not just about cars as we all know, it was much more than that, every time the show ended I wanted to listen to it again, but I had no good way of taping the show, and then came the first (iPod Touch) and later (App Store)
I was keep checking the (App Store) for (Car Talk) or (NPR) app, but back then there were not any apps remotely close to what I was looking for, so anyway the app finally came to (App Store) and I was beyond happy, 'You see',
I was waiting for that app ever since (App Store) got released, and at the beginnings and much later on there were not that many apps, so to see (Car Talk) app was really exciting to say the least, and I have been downloading weekly podcast ever since, and looking forward to what they had to say, but sadly this time there were just (Ray)
I was just loss for words, I felt something, that can't be described that easily by words, so I can't image how (Ray) must have felt and announce his brother's death on the show. Thanks to technology their works, Tom's laughter is going to live on for generations to come.... Share your story if you can about how you came to hear about the show thanks.
“No matter what it is, it’s gonna cost you $200, if that’s what it is.”
    "Unencumbered by the thought process"
RAY: “Don't drive like my brother.”
TOM: “Don’t drive like my brother.”
You can't download the podcasts for free anymore.
    I noticed it back in (Wed,Sep 20,2023 1:46 AM)
I go to NPR's site on my PC to download it for free, it too will be money soon.
There is no way that I would ever pay $4 a month no matter how much I like car talk, besides I have downloaded a couple of hundreds already.

The year is 2020 I still replay this when I need a laugh. Who's with me? Car Talk's tribute to Tom is a timeless reminder that life is precious. In a world where laughter and kindness echo long after we're gone, it takes nothing to be good to others. Share your talents generously, for in those moments, you create a legacy that continues to brighten the lives of those who follow.

Like so many people, I’ll never forget listening to Car Talk with my dad. Whether we were running errands or sitting at home, we’d tune in every week to hear their stories, try to figure out the problems with people’s cars, and laugh with them. These are the simple, unadorned memories that make me miss my dad. Thank you, Tom and Ray.

I remember as a little kid sitting in my dads car always listening to car talk on NPR. Weather we were stuck in traffic or just doing around town chores, he always made my dad laugh and the things that I could understand as a youngster made me laugh too. I have since grown a bit and now understand what is going on so I am constantly laughing. I like many suffer from extreme depression. When I am in the deepest throws of contemplating my existence, I always put on car talk to try and cheer me up! AND ILL TELL YOU WHAT! IT WORKS EVERY TIME! Toms laugh always puts a smile on my face, and the show helps me detach from whatever is weighing me down! I now listen to it all the time at work! i will go through 6-7 throughout an entire work day. Tom you are sorely missed by everyone who listened to car talk.

People who see me driving down the street, laughing hysterically must think I'm nuts, but those in the know must say, "He's listening to Car Talk. It wasn't just funny, it was also educational. When someone called in, I would always try to figure out what the solution to their problem was, and see if I had the correct answer. You guys have brought so much laughter to this world, and there is never too much of that. I will listen to reruns of car talk as long as they are aired. They are still as fresh as the day they were recorded, and laughter never grows old. I been a long time listener about 35 years on and off. It was sad to here about Tom's passing. Even though I never met Ray and Tom in person, it was still like loosing a close friend. My favorite show was the one that NASA called in and asked about what to do about there vehicle stuck in the sand. As you can guess it was not on this planet. Ray and Tom's remark was to punch it! Thanks for all the laughs.

May God bless them both. I first heard car talk in 1982 on a Friday evening as I started a weekly 500 mile drive from my assignment at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard to State College Pa. Where my family lived in a house that could not be sold due to the high interest rates. I made this trip every weekend and listened to Tom and Ray every Friday. I remember to this day one of the letters they read...it was from guy who was going to drive a VW beetle from Boston to California he asked what tools he should include in a tool box in case of difficulty....Ray provided a logical answer however Tom said ...you are going to need just one tool...a Visa Card! I nearly ran off the side of 95. I have listened ever since....Saturday mornings will never be fun again.

I love Car Talk. I remember the first time I heard them how light-hearted they were with women and men. As we know, oftimes women are slammed for being less familiar with their vehicles, but they roasted everyone equally for their ineptitude -- what great fun. Thank you the laughs!!

Man. I've heard these guys on the radio sporadically over the years and with the advent of mobile technology I recently started listening to their podcasts in my car. Last year I learned of Tom's passing in 2014... and was suddenly very curious which one it was that passed. Thank you for this upload. I'm still astounded by the vast and extensive knowledge about cars these guys had, all while being a couple of goofballs.

I grew up listening to this show with my dad on the way to school and his work. I like to think I've gotten some of my witty humor from them.

My parents played car talk every Saturday when we went for a drive. Road trips were filled with car talk. Didn’t matter if we were listening to the same episodes over and over again they brought so many laughs.
Thank you Tom and ray for so many memories, and for inspiring me to pursue becoming a mechanic/tech.

I actually cried when Ton died, I miss then so much. Especially today. June 24, 2017. The last time NPR is airing the Click and Clack Brothers, Damn, Saturday mornings will never be the same again, at 9 am. I love the best of Tom and Ray these 5 years., My own kid brother? 5 1/2 yrs younger? I love him more than any other person on earth. That includes all my girlfriends, life partners, living together for up to 7 years in common law marriage...going back to the 70's. Thanks Tom and Ray, for over 16 years of listening, for all the joys and laughter. Wow, Cannot believe this is the end of line. BTW, my Aunt just died a day before her 92nd Birthday, in assisted care, of advanced dementia. I lived with her, it was so very sad and helpless to see her mental health fade away, surely and slowly. I am 66 male myself. "No greater love hath he, than he who loveth his brother." Tom and Ray will never ever be gotten in my Kodak Memory bank, in my mind.
