I wonder why high level players so often send their army off into the fog, and then lose half their units while busy shuffling settlers around

I try to elaborate. I think because scouting is crucial to win and any detail gathered can led to victory and considering that, micromanaging vills (eco) it's way more efficient and worth the risk to focus the micro on military units.

You are correct, it is risky to ruin into fog with low vision units. Usually I'd lead with my hero but he was dead. I will say a loss of units like that happens very rarely to me. It is a requirement to be a high level player that you have to do multiple things at once and make calculated guesses based on opponent army movements. Sometimes it doesn't work out.

jans struggle vs cav without the arsenal tech, he should have gone for azaps as they counter goons and beat cav in mele, abus or artillery against skirms, spahi were pointless against ryuters

Make more envoys with your Explorer. Use them for scouting and meat shield. At best, it is 1000 hp of tanking for 250 food.

(10:06-10:07) - What exactly did you click (as in hotkeys) to get *ONLY* your idle villes, I was told that's only available in AoE II & it either got broke in AoE III: D.E. or just was never a part of it. Was it just shift + double click or control maybe instead, I tried it on my old keyboard which messed up - maybe it shorted & I never know the full bindings this entire time!
*But thank you, thank you - it's one of the many crucial things I've been needing!

@justincronkright5025 it's likely what you are referring to is holding CTRL and double click. This selects all villagers on screen performing the same action. So if you do it on hunters, it selects all hunters, if you do it on a miner, it selects only miners on the screen. One of my favorite hotkeys in aoe3.

@@SoldieRaoe Yeah so all idle villes would be its own sort too then I'd imagine. In AoE II, you have somewhat weird forms of 'Current Villager Job' - which sticks around even if they're idle for example. But if applied here it seems to be based on whatever they're currently selected to be doing, *I like it!

@@SerenityTun Nothing had ever worked - except now the Control + Double Click that Soldier suggested. It was actually the very first question I asked when I started playing & was told by a few people that there was no option for it (it was a cheque-marked box in AoE II I believe, that I was just really used to).
I might have switched TAB around in the hotkeys so that has messed up that hotkey combination from working? I'm finishing a move tomorrow, but will definitely try that!
