It is said about great people, who are incomparable in their time, that there will never be another group who had the quality of The Platters. And now some 60 years later, now that all of the original group have passed away, we are left with their eternal voices still filling our souls with their heavenly blend of lyrics and score…
DJ's did not play their music in 59 as they did in 56. Foolish "scandal" kept them out of the limelight They would have been even bigger BUt to me they are the best, no one touches the,!!!!
To fully understand the greatness of this group, you simply would have to have lived during their days of fame. No one, and I mean no one, could sing a slow song better than Tony Williams and the Platters.
He came once in a lifetime I never heard a voice like his again rest in peace this is my prayer for you always peace and love you're in the arms of God now I love you
What a masterpiece! This is my very favourite Platters song. A wonderful era is was and I'm so happy and most thankful that I lived to experience the joy derived from the talent this amazing group shared with us.
Isang kahanga-hangang panahon ang noon at ako ay napakasaya at lubos na nagpapasalamat na nabuhay ako upang maranasan ang kagalakan na nagmula sa talentong ibinahagi sa amin ng kamangha-manghang grupong ito..
Only once in a lifetime can a group like this will ever be in a center stage to share their talent for the world to enjoy. We are so fortunate to be the recipients of this incedible performance. Thank you for posting.
This song and my prayer ,there is nothing to better the vocal talent ,no auto tune just the gift from God and a microphone and two beautiful controlled classics
While watching "The Pale Horse" tonight this track was playing in the background, recognised Tony Williams's beautiful tones, first time we've heard it, first time I've seen the video. Thanks for the memories.
You're right, marucut. It's one of the tragedies of rock and roll that The Platters broke up and Tony Williams' solo career never took off even though he had the best voice of the 20th Century.
This is the first time I've seen this video and what a wonderful video it is. Showing one of the greatest Groups from that generation, which is mine, The Platters no doubt were one of the greatest Groups from the mid-50's and early 60's. Their lead singer, Tony Williams, is one of the absolute greatest lead singers of any Group in the history of "Rock & Roll". Thanks to CZcams we are able to go back in time and see the great talent that started "Rock & Roll".
I couldn’t put it any better takes me back to the time we all went to ballroom dancing lessons.Belonged to cycling club in the years so long ago. Makes me think of a certain girl all those years ago. Are well
My Favorite Tony Williams recording .His Brilliant operatic voice, brings this rendition from a great above average song TO A Spectacular Singers CONCERTO...Thank You Tony Williams
BEAUTIFUL SLOW BEAT SONG TO DANCE AWAY,, MY PARENTS FAVORITE GROUP MANY MOONS AGO, I WAS JUST A LITTLE GIRL, GREW UP LISTENING TO THEIR MUSIC, LOVE LOVE IT
The Pale Horse brought me here. The moment I heard it, I was like man where have you been all my life. My father never played this on our LP player back the days. Surely missed out on this one and has now become my favorite song of all time, ok this and Ebb Tide😁❤️🔥
Fabulous Platters wonderful voices song full of meaning talking to the heart and soul.Nobody can do the same nowadays. We are living orribles times.Sentiments are gone forever.
Had never seen or heard this before, and I am a fifties era guy who was on the air for several years playing the Platters and all the other groups of the time on a regular basis. I was also an Army broadcaster overseas in the early 60's. How did this live cut slip by me? SO good, with Tony Williams at his absolute best.
Awesome group...my dad loved them when he was still alive...i remember my gradeschool days...he always play long playing record of this group. Amazing voices...
I once read that they sold more singles in one year than anyone or other group did, including Elvis. It was in a year book of the Encyclopedia Americana. 1960? Can anyone verify that? Even if they didn't, they made millions of people happy and still do. Thank you for posting this!
One of the most important videos on youtube because it shows that great music will always be around .The sound of the Platters and Tony Williams voice is............... Simply The Best ...PERIOD !!! Thank You for posting.
I am so sad why Tony Williams has never got the recognition he deserved. His talent in singing with such a golden voice is uncomparable and can not be rematched.
@@clydedahler8634 I danced to them in the fifties i absolutly love them never ever beat them as for my dream I can’t stop playing it It makes me cry beautiful voice thank you for Plainfield them jean Goodwin
Even though there are Platters groups still performing today, all the original members that recorded for Mercury are deceased. David Lynch (tenor) died in 1981, Paul Robi (baritone) died in 1989, Tony Williams (lead) died in 1992, Zola Taylor (contralto) died in 2007, and Herb Reed (bass) died in 2012. When Tony Williams left the group to go solo in 1961, he was replaced by Sonny Turner. Sonny Turner is still alive at 81 and appeared with a Platters group in 2019. Most of the other members who joined between 1962 and 1982 are also deceased.
Fantastyczny Whe Platers-Ich nie można przestać słuchać. Każda skladanka-Sentimental,Stand by 2008,Swet,Swet Orchids i wiele innych jestsuper. I hear this very personal song as a prayer, a conversation really, to my God, in whom is all my hope. With tears streaming, I am so thankful that God made music possible in our difficult lives. The Platters were a full cut above.
