Once other countries recognize it, then it might build formal alliances, deterring attack by China. Only then will there be real peace. Until then, foreign entities are hesitant to invest in Taiwan, and Taiwanese people themselves continue to seek green cards as a backup plan. In this current state of perpetual war with China, Taiwan cannot trust aliens and do not naturalize any immigrants. Until it becomes a globalized country it will not have real friends. "The conflict between China and Taiwan goes back not just decades, but centuries." Actually, it doesn't. That's the whole point behind why China's claims are bogus. What a stupid thing to say. It's lazy, too. You're thinking of the Middle East, so you just transfer the same observation onto any conflict in the world to make you sound smart. "Oh, yes, that conflict, well to understand it, you actually have to go back centuries." (Said by every American trying to sound smart talking about any conflict in the world.) Chinese dynasties never had any meaningful political ties to Taiwan because Taiwan had nothing of value. It was easily ceded to Japan after the 1894 Sino-Japanese war, long before Chinese Communists came to power. It remained in Japanese control until 1945 when its fate was uncertain due to the Chinese Civil War but few Taiwanese (being business-minded and being in the South) supported the CCP. So, the conflict DOESN'T go back "centuries". It goes back decades. Stop saying things to make yourself sound smart that are actually stupid.

Before 1661, no Chinese were on the island of Taiwan, which belonged to the Netherlands in the 17th century. Later, the pirates defeated the Netherlands and occupied Taiwan. The Qing Dynasty then defeated the pirates and ruled Taiwan for a while, but Qing rule was limited to a small area of the western plains of Taiwan. In 1895, Japan defeated the Qing Dynasty and ceded Taiwan to Japan. From the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century, Taiwan belonged to Japan. During Japanese rule, Japan sent troops to conquer eastern Taiwan and achieve complete control of the island of Taiwan. China will not invade Taiwan.
Look at how much trade China relies on with the West, both selling and buying. And they have already been told that all trading would cease, with anyone in the West, and all they would have to trade with would be North Korea, Iran and Russia, and they are already BROKE.
So why even speculate about it ?

      @@bluntedvegas702 Yes, you are clueless.
Russia is ruled by 1 person, China by a very large 480 person Committee.
Russia has a ruler who thinks that the old way of life in Russia should be preserved and that is in his own statements and actions, whereas China is totally reliant on export goods productions.
Russia's main source of GDP is oil and gas
at around 83%, and Putin never even thought that Europe would stop buying it, whereas China HAS to sell goods and in a very competitive market.
Putin sees Ukraine as a state of the old USSR and he wants their agricultural/seaports close to Asia.
China wants to extend control of the area towards the Pacific for fisheries and shipping lines up to Europe, to protect it's goods exports. Have you heard about their multi-trillion $ "Belt and Road" Goods Movement Plan. ?
China know full well that their entire Trading GDP would instantly freeze, amounting to a complete and utter financial meltdown, at a time when the Chinese population demographics are such that the 18-40 year old group are already screaming out for a western style democratic Leadership system.
Communism died in USSR, Putin is trying to revive it.
And China is desperately trying to hold onto it.
The Chinese Leadership's comments and actions is all about trying to raise the level of support for them, and has nothing whatsoever to do with the real situation.
They often repeat this "Military" muscle flexing whenever there is unrest in China.
Have you been asleep all your life ???
Because SOMETHING has made YOU clueless.
