Just a very tiny thing to point out around 1:20,
during the Qing dynasty most of the Chinese migrants were actually Hokkien/Hoklo Chinese from the Southern Fujian province, while Hakka was relatively a smaller group.
2:18 Mao didn't win. The Chiang skek was busy fighting the Japanese off in ww2 , after they fought the Japanese, Mao simply tore through the battle exhausted army of Chiang shek. YES , the commies were a bunch of cats hiding in the mountains while Chiang shek fought the Japanese. Eventually Chiang shek went to Taiwan to escape Mao.
And Mao's rule brought utter misery to the people he controlled.

ROC was the original founders of both modern China and modern Taiwan and was recognized by the United Nations from 1912 to 1979 not the PRC in 1971 US led United Nations and the PRC came together to makes an illegal agreement between themselves without Taiwan participating in it to removed Taiwan from the United Nations members and to recognized Taiwan as part of China ever since then the PRC have been using that illegal agreement to claimed the right over Taiwan as part of China illegally 😂🤣😂

I think she should elaborate the US's role in doing everything possible to keep Taiwan separated from China, this is in US's the best interest. Really appreciate this video; i had to watch twice. I have been yearning to understand the origin of the tensions between China and Taiwan. While the story in the video has some gaps, it certainly helps to shed light on the issue.
I have nothing to add, except Madame Chiang Kai-Shek was known to speak English with a Southern drawl, because she went to school in Georgia. Useless trivia, but they were allied with USA in WWII.

"Unbiased" you say. Palki have left out the fact that Taiwan claims more than the areas already inside China now. It also claims AP, Mongolia and 11-dashline in the South China Sea (actually Taiwan claims more than the communist).

It was a pretty good summary till just before the very end. China said repeatedly it was going for peaceful reunification but will use military means if Taiwan tries to go for independence. So they are not against the status quo, they are against independence. Status quo remains an option. This current government however is pro-independence, hence the tensions.

It was a pretty good summary till just before the very end. China said repeatedly it was going for peaceful reunification but will use military means if Taiwan tries to go for independence. So they are not against the status quo, they are against independence. Status quo remains a option. This current government however is pro-independence.

Chiang Kai-shek did bring gold to Taiwan to rebuild financial system in order to feed their 1.5 million refugees which retreated with him from China, but their gold and other assets are far from enough, therefore Kuomintang release New Taiwan Dollars to exchange Old Taiwan Dollars, and exchange rate was 40000(OTD) to 1 (NTD), by doing this, Chiang Kai-shek transfer whole Taiwanese‘s private property into their state owned assets. We Taiwanese DO NOT appreciate Chiang Kai-shek at all, their Republic of China’s government would disappear without Taiwanese’s contribution.

Everyone wants the right to protect their own security, business and interest. It’s all about power and greed that’s what’s always been since the start. More power = more greed = more business = more control = more interest = more security = more protection and the list goes on, folks when you factor all these things in one category than, you’ll truly understand why politicians do what they do.
This does not mention the real reason why China wants it. The world has 8 choke points and controlling the open ocean around Taiwan means that China cannot get its navy out to protect things like oil tankers. If China cannot control the pacific and Indian Ocean choke points or at least keep them open they can be put under any kind of sanctions any time.
Imagine they are restricted from oil and mining equipment like NK.

Most of the Chinese who came here were Hokkien speakers， not Hakka. It is important to note the original people of Taiwan are Taiwanese Aboriginals who have been here for thousands of years. NO government controlled most of the island before the Japanese came here in 1895 as until then more than half of the island was under tribal Aboriginal control. We were at most only on the edge of the Chinese empire historically.
