  • I've been studying to become a library technician, despite claiming to be enneagram type 4w5 (The Bohemian). Is this a betrayal of my enneagram type? Let me know in the comments.

    Librarian? How interesting and aligned with the creativity of a 4w5. My first "job" at the young age of 7 was working in the school library. That was my goal besides finding the cure for cancer or being the first woman in space. I digress. Then in university I worked in the library. There's something wonderful about a library. Maybe it's having access to all new knowledge and books that include some sort of adventure/travel that is appealing. Kudos to you! If it continues to 'bother' you about the librarian label, just look at it as your bill paying job. That's what I do to stay authentic to my wanderlust side. "Oh, this? It's just a bill paying job so I can travel more. Not the real me." I have no clue what your vid point was either. Makes them more interesting this way though.

      Oh you’ve worked in a few libraries it seems! I’m glad you saw librarianship as being alongside being the first woman in space or curing cancer 😂 I was always trying to find jobs in a library since graduating 18 years ago but never managed to get an interview - now I’m pretty sure this diploma I’m studying for will at least get me that.
      Yep it should be a pretty great job even if it’s just for paying bills. Which is the only way I can talk myself into nearly any profession since I live mainly for my artistic pursuits 😊 But it’s nice when one can fit well with the other - a career alongside everything else. Thank you for sharing your stories!

    I love personalityhacker for their series about the secret superpower of each type (very flattering to infps 😊) but it is sometimes a bit wacky as i think it is an ENTP and an ENFP podcasters. I'd prefer to be called artistic than normal but then i actually also wish to seem normal so i don't think I'd be offended. Maybe I'm a "normalizing" infp but that word is more offensive 😅 Any suggestions in the podcast about infp doctors? Maybe they are "harmonizing" type? I'll check out the podcast 😊
    I think librarian would be great! I love the cozy and wondrous world of libraries. I think though there isn't much artistic work in library tech, except when it comes to starting up book circles? Most of it sounds like knowing how to look up information, which i find pretty exciting, but it isn't really about personal expression. Maybe doing book reviews is a way to show your unique take on a book?
    My grandfather who i suspect is a reclusive INFP or INTP used to work as an editor but his business failed pretty badly because he was shit at marketing, so at least you get to avoid that as a librarian 😂

    • @vondelpete
      @vondelpete  Před rokem +2

      That's right they were ENTP and ENFP - can't really get any whackier than that XD But so much glorious Ne in the podcast. Yeah 'normalising' was a funny term they used. They didn't mention INFP doctors but from the description they gave I think the whole 'harmonising' subtype worked well :)
      Yeah I always used to live and hide in libraries my whole life, I wonder what it will be like when I actually start working in a library. I think because libraries are changing around the world into being 'community hubs' I think there could end up being a little bit of creativity going on with...holding storytime events for children, designing posters and so on. But on the other hand I'm always going to look at it as just a job to keep money coming in while I continue to prioritise my music and Youtubing :) Did you know though I'm such a terrible reviewer, of books or music - terrible at providing any sort of critique XD
      That is quite a lesson to learn from your grandfather! INTPs and INFPs haha they can be okay at marketing, sometimes even genius with it, but I think a lot of them just have such a distaste for marketing. And I sure struggle. Yes, a library is sounding like more and more of a good fit (unless one day in the dystopian future they get super corporate or something) 😂

    This is so intriguing. I type as a 4w5 and I studied to become a librarian, too! I am currently working the public library shelving books hoping to be an assistant soon. I'd be so interested to see how many infp 4w5 would be interested in library work. Thanks for sharing!

      Thanks for sharing that! It’s funny, there are a few INFPs I’m friends with in class, and a few of those are 4w5 too - all very creative types who love libraries and books and reading!

    As I'm a dominant type 5, delving into the independent processing of knowledge is obviously highly attractive to me. I don't know if that's also the case, in the first place, for the artistic bohemian or library technicians, but I find your path appealing and am very curious to know more about it! 😄
    My MBTI expels me from being one of those INFP subtypes, for now, at least haha.

    • @vondelpete
      @vondelpete  Před rokem +2

      I think there's just like, a side of me that's very excited by the processing of knowledge and then the other part is just obsessing what the deeper meaning of it into my identity, but who knows how things will turn out! Thanks so much for saying that, maybe I'll give updates as I go on with the course. I wonder if they do an episode about INTPs - I'm so curious to how they define the different INTP work styles and subtypes!

    Library technician sounds like a great choice for you; your face lit up when you talked about it :). I've had a lof of different careers in my life: I studied japanology to be unique (why else would you study something so useless), then was a trainee in the foreign rights department of a publishing house, then assistant to the general manager (which is kind of ironic when you can never remember where you put important documents), then a book editor for a few months (absolutely hated it) and then I went back to doing more administrative stuff like drafting contracts for authors, researching copyrights to art works and images of said art works before realising I wanted to be more involved with the actual making of a book, so I went to a 2 day seminar to learn the basics of InDesign and taught myself everything else. I don't work at a publishing house anymore but I layout books now (mostly scientific books but also novels and autobiographies) and absolutely love it. I like variety and work best under pressure, so not sure what subtype I am.

    • @vondelpete
      @vondelpete  Před rokem +2

      Ha my eyes lit up? That is a good sign. 🙂 Japanology of course is something I want to immediately find, enrol in and study. Thanks for sharing your experiences! I guess you did a great thing in trying all these different jobs until finding a great fit. I don't know why I found it nice to hear that you hated book editing - maybe because my degree in professional writing and editing made me always wonder if I should have gone into book editing and I never felt like it would suit me well.
      It took me so long to realise I can work better under pressure and with variety, I spent years telling myself I was the opposite and hiding behind admin computer screens, not realising the damage it did to me! I think a lot of INFPs work really well with variety and (limited) pressure don't realise it.

      @@vondelpete The problem with book editing is that you have to edit a lot of books by writers who shouldn't be allowed to call themselves that. And you get into endless discussions with these authors who often get very upset if you only change one word. Judging from how you tell stories, I'm guessing that you are a good writer, and since all the book editors I know are good writers and good editors, I think you'd be a good editor as well. But I also think you would be extremely frustrated since editing is basically 80 % trying to calm down the author and convincing them to go with your version.

      @@emb8319 ha. That is not something that entered my head when I thought about book editing. And it makes sense. I can imagine incredible amounts of, well, ego. That sounds exhausting, although your experience in editing also sounds really funny. Frustrating, exhausting and funny on reflection. 😂 Thanks for saying that, I stopped writing properly many years ago which is worrying but I hope to start up that engine again. I'm sure being around books all the time will get under my skin in a nice way and make me want to write more. Which must happen with you and books too!

    Oh nice!! I'm really glad you listened to the podcast and got something out of it😄 I felt like the creative subtype is my 2nd best fitting, but I definitely felt like the harmonizing subtype resonated the most with me. I was confused for a while about whether I am an INFP or INFJ. Also, I was previously in university for an International Relations major and very passionate about human rights. However, now I've discovered I'm more interested in psychology and sociology (still interested in human rights ofc), which is leading me towards a career in the field of counseling/therapy. I think I'd make a better counselor/therapist than diplomat or non-profit leader or something of the sort, lol.
    But to answer your question in the video - no! I don't at all think you're betraying the 4w5 values! I think you're betraying the stereotype. 😊 I believe that you're only moving towards growth and I surely don't believe growth is linear. You might become a bit of a 4w3 for a season! But I definitely don't think it's a bad thing at all. If I remember correctly, 4's move toward healthy 1-like qualities in growth. 😊 I went back to college at 26 (now I'm 30) and it made my Ne and Te much stronger as an INFP. It was the best thing I could have done for my own personal development!

      Yes I did get a lot out of it, thank you! That's cool to hear about your story and the studies and careers you've done. I can see how it all links though for you - human relations, sociology and psychology. To be honest the older get, the more those fields appeal to me (they definitely didn't when I was a super enneagram 4 younger person). Very cool to hear about making your Ne and Te stronger. I spent so many years working in the government, focusing on my creative pursuits but letting my brain rot XD I'm hoping to reactivate the Ne-Te, it will make me a happier person so it's great to hear your experience :)

    If it works for you, it works you! Plus you sounded excited as you taked about going back to the university. It should definitely be worth giving a shot. And if you like it enough to finish it, you end up with a degree, so it's an option even of you do other things and not use that degree for your entire life as a full time job! All the very best for it. Hope it works out well.

    Hi! I'm an infp 4w5 and I thought this was really interesting because I feel like I've been through all of those and constantly switch between the subtypes. It makes me think more of the 4 sides of the mind than the enneagram. Like the creative is the ego and the dominant is the estj subconscious, and so on. Also, I know this is totally random but if you want a penpall, I'm always open to making friends through odd situations. 😂 Also, it's so interesting to see the infp type in a male, I've met mostly female infps.
