- For this quick review video, I hop in a 2012 VW GTI tuned by APR. Owned by my friend Chris, this was the first time I had driven a GTI of any kind and it was a blast. All this mk6 has is intake, downpipe, exhaust and tune, everything else stock except wheels ... best handling/balanced hatch out there .. no wonder they outperform the rest of hatches in the Sports Car, World Tour series.
AR Taken Well it doesn't outperform the others in street form. The hatch market for US is nicely matched and its going to be almost brand preference
Will your tunes work with a catless downpipe from another part manufacturer?

I have :) ! but i want to hear the review/experience from an owner
I own a 2011 GTI with 160.000 Kms on it (Canada.) no need for special tuning , will get the new model tensioner for the timing chain and possibly a new water pump this coming May. But that's it . I drive it everyday and absolutely love it , I wouldn't change it for anything else and I am 77 old.
Through it's several iterations, the VW GTI is the original hot hatch. Many imitators, but nothing quite like the original. An absolute blast.
I swear I have yet to meet someone that doesn't get "the grin", myself included while driving this car.
Those R tail lights make the car.

After owning a gti the only car I'd rather own is an R. I love VW
Same! My 2012 mk6 is completely paid off now, and I'm more than likely going to invest in a new R soon!

The stock clutch in these is so light. I drove my friends and just the dead weight of my leg could push it all the way to the floor. The steering is also a little light for my taste but they are still very fun to drive. And I agree with you about the shifter, it's very easy to pick up on. Another great review man.
Just bought a 2014 GTI and in late July and absolutely love it! Haven't done anything to it yet, but it's just a fun little car! Can't wait to upgrade it a bit. Great review as always ThatDudeinBlue

Not sure where this guy got his info from. The GTI is one of the best platforms for major power, well it doesn't really need major hp judging by the amount of people running 11s and 10s with only ~400whp. Didn't a tuned MK5 run like a sub 8 min time on Nurburgring? The GTI's potential is seriously downplayed in this review IMO.
he really doesn't know much about german/euro cars if you watch his reviews.
Ghos7N54 there is not a single gti in the world that will run 10s with 400hp. Coming from a GTI driver myself, not possible. even with k04 turbo and stage 3 tune at about 400-450hp, will make 12s at best.

@@fcktheccp6105 lol you know nothing about K04 GTIs then, most MK6 GTIs running a K04 with Slicks will do 11s, even on stock turbo theres people that have done mid 12s with 100 octane and slicks.
It's front wheel drive without a limited slip differential this is not one of the best platforms for major power.
I had an 06 gti with APR tune and intake and that car FLEW. Was an impressive little machine ! And loads more comfortable than the wrx my friend has

GTI with a tune is just about a perfect car. I love mine, it does everything with gobs of torque, comfortable, and the exhaust is perfect (I have the same one)
This is awesome I'm glad you're starting to review more german cars. You need to test drive a tuned mk7 GTI now, they're extremely impressive.

Yep! Richmond was about near destroyed in the civil war since it was the capital of the confederacy haha

My brother who is in collage mind you drives a 2013 GTI and loves it. He has a pretty decent tune. I'm not sure the exact specs but I think he said he was close to 370Hp to the crank and a bout 30lbs of boost thanks to his new turbo. From experience driving it torque steer was a little bit of an issue for me but I'll put that up for my lack of driving experience. But the car is fun to drive and just let the engine loose on open roads.

Hey David I was wondering if you have ever driven a mk5 gti apr stage 2 with the dsg transmission.
I have a mkiv on bags and I love it. Owned it a little over than a year.
The gearboxes in VW's are really good. I've had a MKIV-MKVI and they're all great.

i have a mk5 gti, 2007, and im on stage 2 unitronic tune and its perfect for daily driving , ur right when u say u dont need 400 hp, expecially in a fwd hot hatch

I’ve been stage 2 on my MK6 GTI for a little over a year and i still love it! Of course you crave more power in it, but it’s a perfectly balanced daily driver. Easy, quiet, smooth ride when driving normally but it has a nice torque curve when you step on it. I’ve pulled on 5.0s and other faster cars with only an intake, downpipe and unitronic stage 2 flash tune on E30 and it surprises a lot of people lol. I can only imagine how much more fun it would be with a K04 swap or bigger.
I just went k04 its a whole different car. If i could do it over, i would have saved for another 4 months and went big turbo.

I've got a 02 audi a4 quattro with stage 3 upgrades and These apr kits are amazing from my personal experience! :)
i owned a k04 mk5 gti for a little while and i miss the damn thing so much (didnt tune it myself, bought it with the turbo and other parts already on it) but it was so flawless.
Need to take an MKVII GTI with performance pack for a ride. It's about as fast as an MKVI Golf R in a straight line, and even faster in the twisties due to reduced weight. Love my MKVII and the interior is a big upgrade from the MKVI.

Thinking between this and a older MS3 for my next car. Might go with a GTI and a DSG transmission cause of high traffic and way too much stop and go up in Seattle
You're basically driving my car, down to the stock suspension ;)
I know you probably want to diversify, but take any opportunity to drive this car with a k04 turbo. It's an OEM S3 turbo but they tend to put down 330whp/380wtq with an intake and intercooler to open up the flow. Interested to hear your take on it compared to this stock turbo car.

I had a 2010 GTI which was awesome and then a 2012 Golf R which was eh just decent and now I have 2015 GTI with performance pack. I love these cars. The only issue is the new MK7 GTI's have turbo problems so I am afraid to tune mine.
I just picked one up today from my dealership I work at, 59000 miles out the door for 11,999! any tips, upgrade advise?? it does have exhaust, not too sure what kind but mainly stock from what I see

The way this car feels is how the R feels from the factory only without any torque steer and way less under steer when pushed hard.

Makes me miss my golf. It was tuned, abused and it was awesome, miss its sound the most, sadly only got one video before i sold it.
Where do you get all the Euros from. This one isnt my favourite car but still better than everything I will have in the forseeable future cause in fact everything is better than nothing. Well Great Review David keep it up.

nice car... Here in Greece with stock turbo and stock engine they make almost 100hp more. Does APR have more powerfull stages?

Last time I drove a GTI (2011), I noticed the clutch was ridiculously light. Other than that, it was a pleasant drive.
So if u Wer looking to buy a hot hatch do you go with the st speed3 or gti or wrx
Got a golf R, APR stage2 tune/twin cooler/ down pipe HFcat/ twin chrgr... Amazing car.. It's a beast when u want ( only GTR beat me so far) then a calm mpg champion when u want ( 30+mpg) It's an amazing car.. Love APR, they are awesome, tune masters.. Getting HF pump next... Been two years and no prob.. The only bad part is nav system & paint... total crap... But they were going to be updated anyway... Lol .. And vdub dealerships are so cool.. Love them..
Are those tail lights the aftermarket ones? I didnt think they had the LED option till like 14 or 15 models.

I had an 04 GTI for 6 years. I have a 2010 Audi S5 now...
The S5 is...well...just outstanding. Such indescribable refined savagery.
That said, next car will probably be a GTI again. The GTI is still my all time favorite daily driver all around.
If I could only have 1 car for the rest of my life, it would be a GTI, hands down. No question.

Let me put it this way. My lower back is obliterated and I'm driving a 6-speed manual.
I was STILL one of the only people on the road using my signals. Every turn. Every lane change. Even in excruciating pain.
So no. I am not "that" Audi driver.
I never tailgate. If someone tailgates me, I let off the gas until they go around (assuming we're not in the passing lane, of course).
I bought a 2012 gti three days ago and I've been told not to drive them hard with the ac on because it will ruin it, is that true ?
