Conquer ANY Terrain in KSP With This Weird Wheel design! | Parallax 2.0

- Parallax 2.0 is a ton of fun - even more so with the collisions turned on! It makes navigating the giant rock fields tricky though, so I built a new kind of rover to conquer any terrain!
I'm probably not the first person to think of this wheel design, but it's pretty refined to work with Parallax. Definitely brings new life into exploring KSPs terrain.

Awesome video my guy
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
And thank YOU for bringing the planets of KSP to life! Surface exploration has often been a weak point for KSP, and also super easy to navigate. This made it much more fun.
I’d hate to see rovey sad again, don’t make him sad, please.
This channel is criminally underrated.
Cant wait to see Rovey 3 in 9 months!
I wonder wil rovey 3 be created after at the end part which was SUS.
Literally someone bout to make a 1 hour loop of those 2 rovers
YO ROCKY LET'S GOOOOOOO
I loved those little Roveys... until the end got a bit sus😳
Great video as always TD
Contract Complete: Reinvent the Wheel
Funds
Rovey the rover is the most highly developed and intricate character I have seen
18:05 oooh so that's how rover fix them self...
Eeehm okay MAYBE its... Ehm how they give eehmm "birth" (?) To Rovey Jr.?
I’m fear
14:03 The Kraken destroys everything you make!
Very nice again ! Thanks for your time. Music well chosen in various context. Great sense of movies. Make me remember the good Texfilm videos on Orbiter.
Thank you! I remember Texfilms, those were some of the first videos that made me want to make cinematic content like this.
Those grip pad wheels are right out of Snow Crash!
18:05 AYYYOOOOO
Honestly that covered everything had amazing editing and also surprisingly story
A Wheel to conquer all! That weird wheel seems work excellent. Struggle on low-G world though, but so does stock rover.
that begining was cool af, and the end ;)
td channel make more rss this is the only source of happines in my life, all of my family died please make more my life sucks
;)
Not to worry, more RSS Content is on its way - this was a quick detour into stock to check out Parallax 2.0
Im 99% sure I saw you in some shorts comment section a few weeks ago lmao
Me during the video: "Woah this is so cool!"
Me after the video:🤨
This wheel design is actually called "pedrails", experimented with in the late 19th century in early tank proposals. Used sporadically untill the invention of tank tracks.
This video went above and beyond with my expectations before and during watching, good idea.
"help me step-rovey! i am stuck!"
Terrific video friend, thank you for the research and notes! I saw this a while ago n plagiarized the spoked wheel design a bit... a lot :) Made my own tweaks n changes, part count reductions, but this "wheel" style/tech/design is hands down the best (maybe only) effective way to cross parallax terrain with collisions! I love driving around on surfaces now, feels like real exploration with a good bit of challenge!
NOOOO ROVEY :(((((
Rovey sad breaks my heart....
Just great. :)
18:05 nature things in robotic machines
so basically, the ksp Equivalent of the 1937 US arctic snow cruiser
This was so extremely impressive and entertaining at the same time
Thank you! :)
Rovey just got my subscription; gotta love eyebrows on a rover!
Nice.
is there a way to make the hitboxes better or improve the meshes so they actually match up better? it feels like i get stuck on a lot of invisible stuff with collisions on in parallax 2.0
Ask Gameslinx I suppose. Collisions are still WIP, Probably why they're disabled in the config by default.
18:13 what the hell did I just see
Just a rover crashing into another, completely by accident with absolutely no other meaning.
@@TDChannelKSP ok
@@CallsignAegis how roves 3 was made
@@makssachs8914 oh shit
When is next funny Pluto video with funny green space men?
someone just reinvented the wheel, hmmm... where have seen that before
what visual mods are you using? looks better than most of my avp installs
Astronomers Visual pack HR + Ballisticfox "Bright" TUFX Config + Parallax
Just wondering is this also made in RP-1 or stock? Either way cool video.
It was made in stock - Parallax configs for RSS weren't ready when I started making this video.
@@TDChannelKSP Cool cool
@@TDChannelKSP Are they ready now?
Ayo that ending 🤨📸📸📸
Caught in 4K
I’m interested
why build a suspension for the wheels when you can make the wheels the suspension right?
These big roverwheels have a McPherson strut suspension, but without the lower a-arm. Oof
Yeah - I tried a few methods of another arm for stability, but didn't figure out a stable method for it yet.
@@TDChannelKSP Maybe soon! Keep trying for as long as you want to
iirc nasa has actually worked on something like this
How do you do those crazy fading transitions between planets? It would be helpful to know for my YT channel!
I use the CameraTools continued mod to make a camera path, and film that repeatedly on each planet.
Make sure the root part stays in the same place (the rover here flexes a bit under gravity, which is why some transitions aren't perfect)
Then in Davinci resolve, it's just a matter of aligning the clip timing so it's identical, and adding a simple cross dissolve transition (for the first sequence)
@TDChannelKSP Oh, I had CameraTools not continued, so I didn't know that was a feature, thank you so much!🙏
@@Joozys4thLab The base Camera Tools has pathing mode as well (press the arrows at the top - stationary cam, dogfight, pathing), but Continued features improvements on the various features.
@TDChannelKSP 🤦♂️wow I only knew about dogfight and stationary cam. Thank you for this advice from one famous creator to an amatuer.
yet it would be easy for Squad to fix, the wheels only have one ray trace under the wheel and it is not following the wheel, with 8 lines tied to the wheel, it could traction no problem but 16 rays would be better... basically the current wheel is like a old PS1 game. so basically you are making the wheel they should have with in game parts!
How long to take you to build this?
IIRC it was about 3 weeks of off and on prototyping to get to this stage.
Poor Rovey :(
sus rovey
Rovey...
i guesse paralax 2.0 needs a pc that can run at least 2 instances of discord?
2:35
What was that ending though?!
You don’t wanna know
Wwwwww
now drive it on jool
Lmfao it got sus…REALLY SUS…like *REALLY REALLY REALLY SUS*
bro why ins't no one talkg about the transitions at 4:47?
Maybe do a like goal and you will do this is rss/ro
🤨ayo? 18:13
P a i n
Ike more like ikea
i made a wheel made out of wheels.
rovey no
meanwhile perseverence 1mph🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Unity's Wheel Collider component is just purely pathetic. It couldn't be done any worse. Probably Nvidia PhysX is the one to blame, but c'mon man, a multi-billion company owner of the most popular game engine can do better than just an abstraction layer of other's work, specially if it is mediocre work. The same applies to Squad. They had 10 years to find a better solution.
i crashed it
Not the video I was expecting, but ok.
That's because it was just the trailer 😅
u cant drive in jool and space
me want ksp 2
ksp has multiplayer
me want multiplayer
player want multiplayer
You kinda copied this off of shadow zone!
Though it is pretty epic
Ah, I knew this comment would come eventually. I've been developing this independently since 9/11/2022 or so, don't think either of us are the first to develop this kind of wheel, though I think my system functions pretty well.
