Skanda is worshipped in serpent form in Karnataka, Kukke Subramanya. It is said that Swami appeared in form of a snake in this land , this is one of the most sacred Subramanya swamy temples in Bharath.❤

I am from Tamil Nadu. People adore lord Muruga here.
There are 6 temples of Muruga that are designated as Arupadai veedu (6 houses of the lord).
The temples Tiruchendur and Palani are among them and they are some of the most visited temples in Tamil Nadu.
The Tiruchendur temple is especially beautiful as it is located right on the seashore.
The speaker is right that people gladly accept pain in the workship - piercing the body with vel etc. people also take hundreds of kilometers of padayatra during festivals. The lord Muruga workship is also common in places like Sri lanka, Malaysia, Singapore -wherever there is a sizable Tamil population. A lot of Malayalees also visit the Palani temple, which is quite close to Kerala

A lot of Tamilians have Murugan as their Kula Devam. People get their hair shaven at Lord Murugan temples (Pazhani) just like Tirupathi. His life story was a miracle, he plunged into the depths and abyss of vices and a passing away of a close relative pushed him deeper into abyss and pushed him to commit suicide and Lord Muruga's anugraham brought him back to his senses and made him the most intense upasaka of Muruga ever. He wrote the Thirupugazh ( the divine glorification) on Lord Muruga and musically composed poems in such complicated meters that peoole and musicians even today are flabbergasted.

Lord karthikeya is not only deva senathipathi he is also called swaminatha which means he became the guru of lord shiva when he explained the meaning of pranava to lord shiva.
Another speciality of lord karthikeya is he didnt not kill the demons as he is a very merciful lord. He did only samharam. Samharam means he controls the negativity of surapadhman and out of mercy kept him as a peacock (his vahana) and cock.

In exact words 'Thagappan Swamy' (Kind of God Father). Once Brahma was returning from kailash, he didnt notice lord Muruga in path way. When lord muruga greeted him, he did not notice and went away.
When Brahma was asked for the reason, he said I didnt see. Then Muruga asked How come God of Creation who can be careless about the pathway also. Then Muruga asked, Do you know the meaning of Pranav Manthram i.e. OM. Brahma replied that I don't know. Muruga surprised and arrested Brahman on the same spot for the punishment of not knowing the meaning of OM.
Then all god appeared fearing the unbalance of Universe including Lord Shiva. Everybody urged Muruga to release Brahma. But he refused. Then Lord shiva asked, then you tell me the meaning of OM. Then Muruga said, 'Yes, I will. But the one who learns must be obedient and the one who teaches is Guru'. So Lord shiva put kneel down and took kid Muruga in his lap. Then Lord Muruga taught the meaning of OM to Lord shiva's Ear. Then Lord Shiva blessed him to be called as 'Thagappan Swamy'. One who became the guru for Dad.

The demon was made into flag (rooster on his flag) and peacock as his mount.

My wife wanted a male child as second and she worshiped him by continuously visiting Karthikeyan Temple for 9 weeks on Tuesdays and We got a Male child, and he is smart looking and talented. In my maternal place in Bihar there’s a village called Sanokhar and every year Kartik Puja is celebrated and a big carnival of 10 days is organized around the village
These are some places where the Kartik puja has immense popularity among the very few in the northern states
We still have temples in north of Lord Kartikey. Here at my place main temple is in Kugti (distt Chamba Himachal) , here we called him Kelang Bajir. To do parikrama of Manimahesh mountain (where lord shiva gives darshan as mani on Janamashtami & Radhaashtami) we first visit Kugti to take blessings & permission from Kelang Bajir . Also every year when local shepherds start their journey to cross high mountains (passes) they first take permission of Kelang Bajir (Lord Kartikey).
We call him Murugan , Kartikeya, skanda, Kanda, subramaniyan, etc
Palani is the most holy place for Skanda... He went and sat in the mountain due to anger on his parents....

In Tamil literature, Thiruppugazh (Tamil: திருப்புகழ் "Glory to the Lord" or "Divine glory") is a 15th century literary work dedicated to Murugan sung by saint Arunagirinathar.
In it he refers to Lord Murugan as Perumal only. For reference, Perumal in Tamil actually means Lord Vishnu/ThiruVengadamudayan(The one who owns "The 7 hills" aka Tirupati.)
There are lot of similarities between Lord Mahavishnu and Lord Murugan.
Even Arunagirinathar wrote/praised many similarities between Murugaperuman and Shri Ram(many of which were lost)
- Both Surapapadman (slain by Murugaperuman) and Ravanan (slain by Shri Ram) were born to Munivar-Rakshasi combo.
- Ajamuki(sister of Surapapadman) tries to kidnap Indrani(during Lord Siva poojai) to get her married to her brother is punished by Lord Mahakaal, he chops off her hand. That becomes the reason for Surapadman to avenge Devas.
In Ramayan Sooroanagai, sister is Raavanan gets punished by LakshmanaSwami and becomes reason for the remaining part of Ramayan history.
- Both Suran/Ravanan gets defeated during their initial battles with Murugapperuman/Shri Ram and are pardoned and ask to come for battle the next day(இன்று போய் நாளை வா).
There are lot of similarities as such.🙏
Now, people from North of India are forgetting Lord Murugan and here Tamil people are forgetting Shri Ram, even when so many temples are there for him here ( for ref, one of the largest Shri Ram temple is here in Nedungunam near Tiruvannamalai: Yoga Ramar Temple, Nedungunam).

Hold on in odisha cuttack(cultural capital) we celebrate kartikeya as victory over tarakasur.First pandals for durga Puja then Kali puja and the festival year comes to an end with kartika puja.He is celebrated as the warrior God slaying tarakasur and treated as fierce bachelor form with atheletic apperance as lord Shiva.But we dont have temples for Him.When I travelled south I found out He has taken two wives exactly like the purana and is subramanya main deity temples......😊😊😊Ganesha begins the festivals and kartika marks the end...

i dont know about north, but here in south especially intamilnadu we pray murugan a lot with utmost devotion.
North you won’t find, except Pahowa in Haryana.

As a devotee of lord karthikeya, there is a correction in what rajarshi nandi said. Yes lord karthikeya is the god of war and he was worshipped in north india. But lord karthikeya is called ‘Tamil Kadavul Murugan’ which translates to ‘Murugan the god of Tamil’. He is the only god to be known in the name of a language. Lord karthikeya was worshipped actually in Kumarikandam. It was said to he the land where first sangam or group of poeple had started. Legend says when kumarikandam went down to the depths of the sea, the people from there migrated to south india that is tamil nadu. Traces of muruga pooja can also be found in sreelanka. So i was saying that karthikeya pooja started going to north india from south india. All of the six ‘padaiveedu’, which translates to ‘war houses’ can be found in tamilnadu. Also lord karthikeya was born as a ball of fire from the third eye of lord shiva. And as it travelled from kailash to the pond ‘saravanapoika’, this ball split to six pieces and fell in the pond. These six pieces turned to six lotus in the middle of which six beautiful baby boys were present. These six babys were taken care of by the six ‘karthigai pengal’ whom are considered to he the six karthigai stars. When the correct time arrived, maa parvati merged all six boys to one. Hope this catches your attention and helps you get a better understanding.

As bengali We do worshipp Kartik.... in the month of Kartik mash .... we place a idol of Kartik in front of the door of newlyweds and in the morning they found it and have to do puja of it 😂 and we also get the prasadam 😋
You know in bengal basically the bangali people worship kartik deva to get baby.They adore him as their own child. I have also seen this puja in my didibhai's house and there goes a saying that the friends of couple use to gift an idoll of Kartikeya before one night of kartik puja.then the couples use to worship that idoll like a child.Though these all are rituals but I feel these things very positive and cute❤❤
