For god sake I didnt even notice the guys hair till everyone talks about it. I mean he is NATURAL ! You should be thankful for that alone. Nowadays you see metrosexual men and overly used make ups all over the place. He looks quite normal and everyone should be just NATURAL
Totally. It's the proper way of breathing in general. You inflate your diaphragm. You can get your upper body to lift a bit but that should be at near the maximum point of lung capacity. You pull air down into your pelvic floor and belly. Let it fill up like the air is a liquid being poured down your airway filling from the bottom up. Belly and diaphragm expand (your solar plexus area. Basically your entire abdomen) Your ribs inflate. Then at the very tippy top you can pull more air in and that will raise your shoulders etc.
I lift heavier when I brace by filling air all over my torso, especially in my chest & the abs are hardened ofcourse. I don't feel so comfortable with locking air around my gut which makes the weight over my upper torso appear heavy. What should I do?
I don't think it will be comfortable at first. I've just started doing it and noticed that my back isn't straining. Although it's uncomfortable to hold, I think it will feel natural with some time
You have to get used to it. What they are describing in this video is the proper way to do the valsalva maneuver, and it’s a very basic and foundational principle you simply have to learn for lifting heavy. This is literally was belts are for: you breathe into the belly and create pressure by inflating and pressing you midsection into the belt. If you do it your way, you are not inflating nearly as much as you can, leaving you lower back vulnerable. Try this: lay on your back, feet on the ground. Put a kettlebell on your belly; you can balance it with your hands. Now do what was described in the video. The goal is to raise that kettlebell as high as it goes. Dojng this as a warm up for squats gets you used to it. Once you get used to that, practice holding that brace while exhaling and breathing a bit. The kettlebell will drop a little, but the goal is to not completely lose the brace when you have to breath during a longer set of squats.
I practice this breathing technique for stable core but i have problem activating my left oblique because of flared ribs. Do you have any recommendation for activating obliques? Thank you for your response.
When athleanx caused that shotstorm a year or so ago with the whole breath out before squatting, I think this is kinda of what he was getting at. If you do a long shallow exhale it seems to move the pelvis and ribcage into a good position to brace in and as soon as the weights get heavy even if you cue breath out before the squat, you still instinctively rebreath and create the internal pressure
No, he didn't imply or get at anything. When you are an instructor, you don't give out half the advice and leave out the most important part. "I taught you how to fasten the parachute. I won't teach you how to open it." Unless he is that stupid, that is.
I’ve been dealing with a herniated disc for 2 years now I want to get back to powerlifting soon bad. But I urge all of you who see this to please prevent low back injuries when lifting. Listen to squat u. Train core stability and work on your mobility restrictions daily and make sure you brace when hitting your lifts. Proper technique isn’t a cliche it’s just a fact you need to be smart. ❤️💪🏼

this is why people avoid leg day, you gotta keep hundred things in mind while doing a simple squat, so you don't make errors and spend rest of your lifetime swallowing pain killers.
Not working out our hips and legs leads to knee/hip/back injuries, too. There’s a lot to learn, but it’s worth it. I mean the same is true for benching, but people aren’t avoiding chest day. There’s also a lot to keep in mind when dealing with nutrition, but that doesn’t make nutrition any less important to get a grasp of. All that said, SquatU probably over-emphasizes all these cues and techniques a little. Just take things one at s time and it’ll become second nature after a while. Happy lifting!
I dont understand shis type of breathing. If i breath with my belly i have a huge cramp of my abdominals. Its holds days or weeks before stretching and self massage
It doesn't matter, only the breathing pattern will change. For example, without belt I'm inhaling on the way down and exhaling on the way up. With belt I inhale before the movement and begin exhaling very slowly after hitting the bottom point. But without belt I'm training in 8-12 rep range, if you're working in lower rep ranges without belt, 'belt breathing pattern' will be beneficial for you. Why is that? Because when breathing this way, we activate our core muscles, which act just like natural belt and stabilize the spine. Powerlifting belt just helps to enhance it
@tkdt9738 lol that cut deep man. I think ill go ahead and change my profile picture to some anime character and go cut my wrists. Oh wait..... looks like you beat me to it 😉
Every breath you take, every move you make, Squat University will be watching you
Amazing reference

Interesting hairline
I can’t unsee that

Came to comment section to see if I was the only one 😂
If he start balding now, when he reach 60 years he will have more hair than me 😅

Hairline game strong
Kirby is one of the last things I would have ever thought of seeing on this channel.
Bruhh
Bro got reverse receding hairline
Anyone tryna talk about this man’s hairline
He’s got a portrait in the attic that’s going bald
The man has hair like a monchhichi doll.

I can breathe like this very easily but as soon as I get under the bar it all goes away for some reason
Lower the weight and increase the rep. Slow down the rep.
Yea its hard under alot of weight, But maybe your walkout is to blame. Try get tighter for your walkout.
Me too😅
If Kirby would know this breathing technique.. 😁

OOOOOOHHH; I KNEW HOW TO BREATHE LIKE THIS BACK IN MUSIC CLASS.
GOT IT. OK👌
Learned this when I was in a professional choir as a kid
My man got a trapezium forehead
I loved the Kirby reference xD!
Is it ok if I inhale into chest then move the air down to abs ?
The complete opposite of a widows peak *chefs kiss. All jokes aside, great, informative content as usual 👍
Was wondering why my squat felt so weak yesterday, definitely going to try this method
Yeah definitely learn this method before going heavy or you might injure yourself
Good advice, makes total sense.
excellent. breathing is everything
That’s why the weight belt is so helpful
Excellent video in this
Clarence and toshiki breathe into their chest as well. Thoughts on this?

how many powerlifters feel attacked by this short lol
Does this same technique apply to all
Three powerlifts?
@squat university. with bracing are you suppose to tighten pelvic floor muscle... because this type of breathing i feel relaxes it?!!!!!
Learned how to breathe back in band, translated into working out perfectly imo
So you must hold your breath until you get up 70% of the way?
Or is it possible to be able to breathe while bracing?
@Squatuniversity, it could be to make a video about kinds of bracing. PL bracing, BB bracing. Just a tip;0)
That dude's hair is really disturbing
QUICK QUESTION. Does vertical motion matter in lifts other than squat.
Wow this is an incredible video
so glad I'm not the only person who was distracted by the hairline
What if you do both simultaneously?
Love that shirt
wait so when do you breathe out?
Problem is, I can't hold on to the bar and my waist at the same time 🙃
You do the breathing drill in between sets.
@@GlacialScionI think it was a joke. Well, hopefully.
Hey I used to see this guy at my gym haha

This is the best I’ve ever seen this explained, but I learned the technique partially through learning to sing. Note not a good singer. Lol
I actually like to exhale on the squat.

People avoid leg day looking for all kinds of excuses, but the main reason is because it's harder than the rest and doesn't "show off" as much

Not everyone knows what that is. These videos are supposed to be as simple as possible.
you shouldn't breathe with your mouth in the first place
What you are describing is breathing into your diaphragm.
