  • For years I've been trying to see the OCS. And I finally did it! Enjoy this mini compilation of trains other the past 2 months featuring the FRA inspection train!
PAR F UNIT INFO: Pan Am purchased 2 FP9A locomotives for their OCS, at the time run by 2 GP40 locomotives. The locomotives were traded from Conway Scenic Railroad in the New Hampshire Franconia Notch. The locomotives are Ex-CN (Canadian National) and where numbered 6516 and 6505 and renumbered to PAR 1 and PAR 2. Pan Am traded their GP38 numbered 252 and GP35 numbered 216. Which can be seen running on trains to this day.
FRA TRAIN CARS: The FRA (Federal Railroad Administration ) aka "Feds" as I like to call them, own a few high tech passenger cars that are used to inspect tracks. The last car scene on that train is DOTX-219 and it does multiple jobs that will be listed here from the FRA website:
    - Entered service in 2007
    - Operates in towed mode
    - Is equipped with:
-Track Geometry Measurement System (TGMS) to measure gage, alignment and track surface and calculate safe train speeds in curved track.
-Ride Quality Measurement System (RQMS) to measure truck and car body forces in g's
-Differential Global Measurement System (DGMS) to provide high accuracy GPS coordinates for exceptions and for each foot surveyed
-Rail Profile Measurement System (RPMS) to measure and quantify absolute and relative parameters of the rail type, rail cant, and wear conditions.
-Driver View Imaging System (DVIS) for recording reference images of the track right of way (ROW) and track roadbed.
The baggage car in front of 213 is ex-US military. Not much info I could find...
