I watched Dan react to IGN's list of the ten best roguelites and just seeing a little FTL footage got me feeling the itch to dive back in to one of the genre's all-time classics. Check it out!

EDIT: that plus Kate threatening to unpause the flagship fight, plus NL holding the baby while in the final boss fight makes this premium content

God I love NL playing FTL. I know you wont play it forever, so I’m really savoring these episodes.
Same, absolutely love playing and watching FTL. NL has me playing it again and the game hasn't lost any charm or fun over the years, still one of the best

@@comet-fy6pd I sure hope not. I prefer Into the Breach over FTL, _by far_ . However, it's a much more solvable game, since it's essentially a puzzle. The backseating would be so, so, so, *so* bad

Getting the Glaive was the right move, but he should also have sold the Ion, Swarm, and Medi-bot to buy the Flak. Had he done that, he'd have easily won. Pre-ignited Flak + Glaive would trash any enemy up to sector 6. Picking up that second Flak would have let him destroy the Flagship easily.
To be fair he got to the final stage of the final fight, so that's pretty good!
@@Empiro3 When you're not really comfortable with the game I've noticed a lot of people hesitating to sell off things they won't need since that's a decision you usually only make in confidence, but flak is really a keys to the kingdom item
He managed to throw every single decision and fight all game lmao it was very impressive
Ryan is the only CZcamsr I can come back to after over a year and still feel right at home

I was about to be all smug and be like "Flak doesn't distract Anti-Combat Drones you idiot" and then he gets that lucky shot.
NL you can micro the ion weapons a little less by just having it shoot at weapons. When an ion blaster hits the physical shields it ions the shields and once they are down you are already ioning the weapons. You won't need to switch were it aims.

I get it, micro is easy if you pause a lot but that probably isn't as entertaining for stream. I'd make a lot of the same small errors if I was pausing as little as he was haha. It makes for a more better video imo

I don't always yell at the computer screen, but when I do, its because Northernlion forgets to fire his flak four times on the final stage boss and uses his glaive beam against a super shield twice.
It damages the super shield.

Not this year but back when the game came out and I think when advanced edition came out he beat a couple runs.

I love how these FTL runs feel. It's like NL is the commander and chat is his army of advisors. And the game is so dang hard that it actually feels like a challenge even with tons of minds pooled together.
Hopefully the backseating doesn't get too annoying so we keep getting this amazing content.
Can we get a count of FTL players who ACTUALLY believe the 4th level of shields isn't worth it? I genuinely haven't seen anyone in the community claim the 4th level of shields is a trap, and I'm wondering if it's just one really loud guy that keeps telling him.
4th level shields is essential. On the third level of flagship it keeps you alive 100%.
@@Turtlesism That makes sense. The super weapon shots are so annoying because they breach and burn everything, creating tons of setbacks
@@TILsquared96 This is also why it's a very good idea to prevent your entire ship (or whatever you can) before then. It's a frustrating and random fight no matter how good your ship is.
The only hard counter to that phase is cloaking.
@@Arguswastaken it's roughly 200 scrap including power, but in the last sector, the ships give you so much scrap as reward that you can basically save up enough to buy shields on the way to fight the boss.
I'm really enjoying these FTL videos, never stop.

If I recall correctly, NL, if you have a breach and O2 upgraded to level two, you can actually power it to full and open all the doors and the room will fill up faster than it can drain.

You're playing a drone ship, level your drones. It's capable of dealing incredible damage. Had a Torus run with 2 combat and 1 beam drone (eventually level 2s), and the damage is great. The ion II shoots so fast you can switch back and forth between targeting weapons and shields like you did and cripple your opponent while your drones crush.

It's a shame he lost this run, it's like dying to moms heart with moms knife but then again he was pretty bad at isaac too when he started. He made some good plays too though and I know if he keeps at it he'll learn how to maximize his chances at winning.

I often use the scrap from sector 8 to take my shields to level 4.
It's a bit of an extravagance, but it's helpful tanking the drone and laser swarm specials from the latter phases of the Flagship

To be fair, you could have started with a Fire Bomb, setting a room near shields or weapons on fire (if it doesn’t miss), then fire your Ion Blast on Shields and whatnot.
Little bit slower, but you get more stuff if you kill the crew before the ship.

I feel like having anti person drone should be bought if you have drone control. Would always help you with breaches
When he skipped buying it I cringed a little knowing the weakness of Engis, the last boss phase, and having that excess drone power, but I didn't hear him mention it as a suggestion from chat so maybe it wasn't as obvious as we think.
I'm loving the FTL runs lately! It really is one of those classics that keep you coming back for more!
