Happened upon Touching the Void at my library (here in the US), and within starting the first few pages, I was on my phone, looking up Sulia Grande. Shortly, I found the information about the film and was very pleased to be able to watch it in 11 parts on You Tube. The story, without a doubt, one of the most amazing ever told. Devoid of Christianity or spirituality, his inner resources somehow kept him together. I enjoyed this interview as well.
Same here. I just got done watching all 11 parts and have been truly inspired. The inner strength that we posses is beyond comprehension. I would have probably died as soon as I broke my leg, before Simon cut the rope. This interview was a good ending to the movie/documentary as well.
Lol. Glad to see Joe and I share the same opinion of his writing. I thought The Beckoning Silence was, by far, the most compelling. It's chalk full of quotable insights into the meaning of life (or lack there-of), and Game of Ghosts has a good deal of that, as well as very entertaining stories like the van trip in Pakistan or the "riot". Touching the Void is a tremendous first work, but it's scope is so much more narrow that it just doesn't hit me as hard as the other two.
