  • In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains key things you need to know about a common, but potentially serious, skin infection called CELLULITIS. We cover causes, risk factors, diagnosis and treatment of cellulitis.
    What is Cellulitis?
Cellulitis is a skin infection that's treated with antibiotics. It can be serious if it's not treated quickly. It can affect anyone but can be more common in certain individuals, for example people with diabetes.
Where can cellulitis affect and what are symptoms of cellulitis?
Cellulitis makes your skin painful, hot and swollen. The area usually looks red, but this may be less obvious on brown or black skin. Your skin may also be blistered, and you can also have swollen, painful glands.
You can get cellulitis on any part of your body, such as your hands, feet, legs and even eyes (orbital cellulitis).
    What is treatment for cellulitis?
Treatment of cellulitis will involve your doctor prescribing antibiotics.
When to seek urgent medical attention for cellulitis:
If you have suspected cellulitis and if you have:
    - a very high temperature, or you feel hot and shivery
    - a fast heartbeat or fast breathing
    - purple patches on your skin, but this may be less obvious on brown or black skin
    - feeling dizzy or faint
    - confusion or disorientation
    - cold, clammy or pale skin
    - unresponsiveness or loss of consciousness

currently dealing with this:/ what’s the difference between draining and abscessing? there’s not much information about proper care online and my doctors weren’t much help either. the main thing that really helped was warm compresses and normal epsom salt baths. the 4th day into treatment i was at my worst and it was so painful to do anything at all and mixing a fever in was so hard. i’m thankfully finally feeling better and the hole that was seeping for 3 days finally has skin grown over so i’m very grateful🎉

I've had this in both lower legs. I was on holiday in Australia at the time and fortunately had great care. I also had a check up before being allowed to fly back to UK. Very informative, thank you.

Just had three factors that played into my current condition with cellulitus. Edema, sorta scraped my shin and got infected somehow along with vein damage from likely the gym. Hospitalized for bout a week and also surgery on damaged veins sometime soon.

I'm not a medical professional but I have got this condition and was prescribed Cetraben. I am also on antibiotics (Flucloxacillin).
      DEFINITELY consult a medical professional.

I have it on my finger and been on antibiotics for 1 day. The swelling is still there. Does it need to be cut open to let out the fluids? Or just keep taking the antibiotics for the week?

Just found out I have this. But I can't get to the hospital for another 18 hours... I'm having severe pain and feverish symptoms now. I hope I'll be able to be treated without insurance or a way there for the next 18 hours. I'm having am anxiety attack.

I just figured I have cellulitis too. I've been cleaning mold from the floors of my room and I believe some of that got in a cut in my knee. It is my best opinion to stay calm. Know that the pain is only from the inflammation, and that nothing is disfigured . Stay strong, I pray for you.

You need to seek medical treatment immediately whether you call 911 which I had to do in order to get to the hospital immediately I was not able to walk it was in my my feet and my legs the pain was extremely severe I had to have a cream to use on my legs pain medication which was Percocet Tylenol during the day cream to apply to the affected area I was put on doxycycline add cephalexin those are the two antibiotics that I'm still currently on@@Strongest_hoomans

I am currently dealing with very painful cellulitis in my left ankle and foot. This is the second time I've gotten it. Last year I got it in my right foot/ankle, then my left. Same thing happened this year...not happy about it...not sure why either...
