Serious fair do's to Hilarie too for having the strength and will to hang on for 6 seasons. Her leaving the show when she did now takes on a whole new and very sad perspective. Now, finally knowing the real reason why she decided not to return (even having been offered a huge pay rise by WB to return for Season 7) shows us just how toxic and abusive this guy was. At the time, I was utterly heartbroken when it was confirmed she wasn't coming back as Peyton was always my favourite character and I was looking forward to seeing where adult life would take her. But now, knowing what we know.. I've got nothing but serious respect and gratitude for Hilarie staying around for as long as she did. She sure as hell didn't owe us anything, and im just forever thankful for her beautiful and memorial portrayal of P. Sawyer.

I’m such a OTH die hard fan, and it makes me sad that they had to live through this while filming such an amazing show which was mainly amazing because of them!! This shit makes me mad
For Sophia to describe it as "it was the best of times and the worst of times" is such a powerful statement and sums up her feelings perfectly and shows just how beautiful yet brutal their environment would be at times. My heart absolutely aches for these women, who I grew up idolising when I was younger. I watched OTH because of them and their stories and the way each actress portrayed their character captivated me to the core. From Peyton's layered and complex family past her guarded heart and portraying her emotions through music and art to Brooke's fun loving yet compassionate side and being the groups central rock in times of crisis and to Haley's ability to wade through the complexities of life as well as being open and accepting of others and being willing to see past their past mistakes. All together they were the living embodiment of sisterhood and friendship and proved no matter what life threw their way if they stuck by one another they would survive it together.
It absolutely sickens me now knowing the truth behind why Hilarie left when she did in Season 6. And it was all because of this guys actions that drove her away from the job and the character she held so dear to her heart. I was always somewhat confused as to why she decided to leave. Sure, actors leave jobs all the time to peruse other job offers but something just didn't sit too right with me, especially after seeing her goodbye video years ago. I knew something was up then but of course I had no idea what the real reason was.
I and others missed Hilarie (and Chad) and Peyton so much, but i'm glad she left while she could. What she and the other female members went through was truly devastating to hear and absolutely should not have happened they should've been protected and they weren't. But the women took action and as a fans, we all stood together with them. Mark Schwahn is not One Tree Hill. Hilarie is, Sophia is, Joy is, Danneel is, Kate is, and so many more members of the cast. Joy and Sophia stayed 9 years, despite what was happening, to give us what truly is a memorable and outstanding show. And I seriously commend and give my gratitude to Hilarie in having the strength and determination to hang on for the 6 years that she did with the show. She owed him, the show or us absolutely nothing she did it purely for the love of Peyton and her ever evolving story of love, loss, friendship and triumph and that in itself should never be and will never be tarnished by anything or anyone. One Tree Hill will never be seen the same way for awhile, maybe not ever again, but that doesn't mean I or we don't love the cast and crew equally. Those who fought and stood by the women of the show and for the women themselves who created a show that will be remembered as one of the greatest. To quote P. Sawyer herself, "Every song ends, is that any reason not to enjoy the music?"
I also read somewhere that Hilarie was also one of his "favorites" so she probably got more unwanted attention than the other girls. I know also Daneel was the one whose hotel he tried to get into. It breaks my heart that these women went through all of this. When I see the episodes that he cameo'd in it makes me cringe everytime.

I was amazed by how beautiful all the actresses were on One tree hill, but knowing now that the show runner only hired girls he "wanted to bang" as he said it to his crew it's just disgusting.

She didn’t just play Brooke, she IS Brooke through and through! She’s so amazing for standing up against Mark and smacking him - that would have been any woman’s reaction. The part where she says “first of all…” and “second of all” and goes into the whole thing just reminded me so much of Brooke that I realised that that was why I loved her character so much - she’s so strong and brilliant and relatable and stands up against assholes because that’s who she is! 👏🏼🙌🏼
Brooke was also a slutty high schooler. Don't get me wrong. I loved adult Brooke. But high school Brooke is a no no for me. I will advise my kid to avoid girls like her.

This is disgusting. This is my favorite show ever and it has in fact saved my life. I can't watch it now in the same light wondering which day of filming they felt uncomfortable and which days they were happy. I also can't believe none of the men stood up for these women....the other actors...the ones who played husbands and loving boyfriends to these girls. So sad.
I know what you mean, i'm a hardcore Leyton fan and knowing what happen in Texas to Hilarie just ruined that episode for me even though it's an important one for my ship. Also i don't know if the actors knew the extend of it all of it all, Danneel stated that she came back for s7 because she would be working closely to Paul and he wouldn't allow this. So it's evident that people on the set were fully of aware of the crap and did what they could to act as a buffer.
Even so, He was quite the creep. She also tweeted "the showrunner hired female writers on the basis of their looks. That's why you're here - he wants to f _ _ k you."
And I also heard about that with Paul. Glad Danneel had the chance to come back and continue her career but it's also a relief that Paul was there to look out for her and no doubt do his best to be there for the other actresses when he had the chance.

He thought he had the right to touch, grope, and harass every woman on his show. What he did to Sophia showed entitlement because he had no right to grab her ass, but he thought he did. Any man who behaves like him is entitled, they think they’re entitled to every woman around them and their bodies.

Harassment or Discrimination of every kind happens all the time in most work places, the problem is everyone is so reliant on their jobs for income that often nothing is ever brought to light. Employment in general has at times made me so insecure about myself, mostly due to the work colleagues I have had to endure. They came in all shapes, sizes, colours, ages and temperaments and have been self centred, back stabbing, devious, lazy, arrogant, racist, feminist, chauvinistic, egotistical and more. But I am also thankful to them in a way, as they have taught me how resilient I can be and helped me develop a solid inner strength.
I had no idea it was that bad. Obviously its horrible what the girls had to go through on that show but I'm so glad they did decide to stay for so long as I love one tree hill but I can now understand why hilarie burton didn't want to came back as well

It is always a shame (if not downright disgusting) when any woman working in any situation [never mind a high-profile job such as acting] has to deal with sexual/sensual harassment (notice the word "ass" is very unironically part of the total word). I cannot even BEGIN to imagine the shock, horror, etc. that went through Sophia's mental, emotional and psychological processes and even though she (no doubt) instinctively, almost semi-automatically acted to defend herself against this heinous act on this man's part, I don't blame her at all for bravely standing up for herself. Just because, to borrow a phrase from Ms. Bush herself from another podcast, she is "programmed to be the good girl" doesn't mean she should benignly allow offenses to happen to her person. Bravo, Sophia...bravo.

I used to think Mark Schwan was such a great guy based on who he was on film. I am glad I know better now. I was first sexually harassed in middle school. Then I was fondled by guys in public, and I always thought it was my fault and kept attracting more creeps who dis the same. Although it never reached the point of sexual assault, it got to the point that I stopped hugging guys and would not let anyone touch me. I only began speaking up for myself and reaching out for help when I realized, if I kept quiet it would only happen to more people.
Now that I weigh 200 pounds I feel safer in public. I didn't over eat as much as it was eating junk and laying in bed all day after my uncle killed himself. It was too hard to get out of bed. The extra weight was just a bonus to keep creepers away.
I once had a guy stalk me to my car in the parking lot and wanted me to get into a van with him. 25% of the females I have worked around carry pepper spray or take self defense. I wish I had some to tell me when I was young to slap a man. Your story could be a blessing for the next person.

I know no one will give a crap about my comment but I'm going to voice my opinion anyway.
I like Sophia Bush as an actress. I've only seen her on Chicago P.D. and I've never seen One Tree Hill. Regardless, I believe her to be a very talented and principled actress. I also appreciate her blunt, to the point way of speaking in an open manner. I think she would be the kind of person I would be happy to have as a friend or a neighbor if it were to ever happen.
What I have a problem with in this interview is her comment beginning at 3:02 in the video when she brings Rosanne Barr into the discussion. Sophia lays all the blame for Rosanne's show being cancelled, and over one-hundred people losing their jobs, on Rosanne because of a tweet some deemed to be racist.
Sophia states early in the interview that when she was sexually harassed when Mark Schwann grabbed her butt she turned around and, "...hit him hard!" I think her reaction was an appropriate response to having him commit an unwanted sexually abusive action. Actually she was reserved in her action. I would not find her actions unwarranted if she had hit him multiple times and verbally lashed out at him in front of the entire crew.
My point in bringing this up is this:
Sophia blames Rosanne for about one-hundred people losing their jobs because of a tweet Sophia believed to be racist, therefore making Rosanne a racist. Call it what you will, but she finds no responsibility with ABC executives and personnel for their immediate and irrational punishment? When Sophia had her ass grabbed (sexual harassment is against the law) didn't she responded by hitting the dick-head (physical assault in also against the law) for his unwanted, disrespectful act?
So I ask which of this is more offensive? Assaulting a co-worker who had just committed workplace sexual harassment by making unwanted physical contact, or ABC executives firing Rosanne Barr and cancelling her tv show, and thereby firing every single person who worked in front of or behind the camera, because she tweeted a comment that was deemed by many to be racist?
In my opinion, Rosanne was not responsible for her show on ABC getting cancelled. Some executive did that. Rosanne was responsible for typing on her Twitter account an offensively worded analogy about a former Obama administration confidante/staffer. She should have known that many people would seem her comment to be hateful and racist instead of edgy political satire.
However, Sophia Bush seems to be more offended by a stupid thought that a well-known crass comedian dared to post on Twitter, rather than being offended at the well known routinely sexually abusive behavior of a person employed by the network that produced her show. It took years to finally fire the sexual predator even though executives knew how criminally aggressive the man was towards young, beautiful women whom he had perceived workplace power over into satisfying his uncontrollable and unwanted sexual advances.
One of her examples is about multiple actions that are physically abusive and categorically against the law in the United States IF victims and witnesses come forward to press charges.
The other, is about a person who had a thought and decided to post it out on Twitter even though she should have known some would have very strong reactions to a perceived racist comment. The comment caused no physical harm to anyone.
Anyway, it's just my thoughts and I think she is unfairly categorizing Rosanne as a racist based on one tweet.
BTW, the tweet Rosanne posted and subsequently deleted goes something like this:
"If the Muslim Brotherhood and the Planet of Apes had a baby it would be VJ."
(VJ are the initials of Valerie Jarrett, a close personal friend and mentor to the Obama's as well as being their Chief Political Advisor in the White House.)
