As a celebrity I think Sam really doesn't experience things like loneliness on the scale that these people writing in do. These people are probably talking about spending a week without experiencing human contact face-to-face. Sam on the other hand has a whole throng of people orbiting him on the daily. Its a matter of scale. Order of magnitude type of difference.
Yes thank you man. Sam doesnt know what the fuck he’s talking about. I listen to a lot of his advice but for some things like this he’s just being an asshole and clearly has zero understanding what its like…so fucking annoying because i like and admire sam. But the idea of just “ignore you lonliness and focus on money” is a good recipe for suicide, and then of course sam will say suicidal people are weak losers. Yeah i dont take any mental health advice from sam he’s good at a lot of things but not mental health.
yeah as a fan of his I often take stuff like this with a grain of salt since he and much of his crew don't exactly live normal lives where they dealt with the same struggles most people do. Not saying he never experienced issues and such but blah.

I was in a band with my best friends and would say "if we weren't doing this, we'd hardly ever see each other" once it ended, my best friend constantly invites me over to sit in his dark, smelly, cigarette house to drink around his screaming disabled children. I can't bring myself to deal with that mental torture anymore

I come home stinking like cigs and filth, too drunk because drinking is the only way I can handle it, and in a depressed funk from experiencing that small piece of hell on earth. As much as HAGAKURE has been a special book in my life, people need to understand it is a romantic view of the bushido, written in a time of peace where samurai were using pens more than swords, by a nerd born in the warrior cast that never fought.
He was just fantasizing about the samurais of before and wrote something accordingly. (Not from his ass though, the guy was very well read)
The book was forgotten immediately and only resurfaced because of 20th century japanese imperialism and got popularized because it fitted Mishima's fetichism (about bushido, Japan and other manly things).
Kind of like when kids believe that Knights can only be good, because they were read romantic 18th century stories about the Crusades. Still love the book.
I hate these comments that immediately shoot everything down just to appear smart. Yes we get it, everybody is a starry-eyed idiot and we don't "get" Hagakure (or Nietzsche, stoicism or whatever).
You don't have to immediately turn people away from reading it by writing stuff like that. Obviously it might be a bit romanticized. But that doesn't make it any less true. Just like you can get inspired by works of fiction (Bible amirite? hAhaAHa). Like when you read Berserk and the following 2 years you grind your ass off in the gym because you wanna be like Guts. Then some asshole comes along and says "Heh, guys, don't be stupid, actually you'll never be able to lift such a heavy sword, it's just fiction!"

I tried to give a bit of context because it is not so well known but still very interesting.
The book is nonetheless great, relevant and useful, as can be any work of fiction.
I think the author knew of his particular angle, writing that "Bravery and Cowardice are things that cannot be conjectured in times of peace."

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently because I found myself up late at night thinking “I wish I had someone else to talk to or hang out with”. I wound up just reaching for the first person around and it hasn’t been good for me so I decided “it’s probably better that I’m alone” and found that I was likely just looking for attention and/or racceptance.I find it interesting how I came to the same conclusion as you.
First comment. Once you've seen and done everything, you realize you need God, who has your back as you fight the good fight and do what's meaningful. Once you become a meaningful person, you'll find people who respect you and won't feel lonely.

It helped me pick up billards as a hobby. I became a regular at a famous pool bar and it's nice hearing that people ask where've you been when you're not there.
Ima say that the less I came out to “party” the more people were drawn to me. Whenever I would go out, people would be genuinely happy to see me, but I never over did it. I didn’t creep people out by wanting to be in their life super hard. Ultimately idgaf, and I think that’s why people wanted to be cool with me. Same with chicks, every time there was a “hot chick” I’d just treat her like a normal fucking person and I didn’t put her on a pedestal.. shit worked out for me.

The most hilarious thing about Sam and his admonishing "advice" for his brand is that he unironically almagamates all of his friends for these things. I'm done wasting time on this aspect on him. He's a diciplined creator and a good organizer, but he is doing no service with his "takes"- rather, a complete diservice. If you're alone, the meta of the very societal ilks he critiques is as much of a causation as flagellation of yourself for supposedly being feminine that he recommends. If you want to fix the underlying causation of your issue- the first step is to realize that this current state of affairs was never the norm. People are all wrapped up and isolated by design- whether it be intentional or not. The first step to not hating yourself for being alone is to realize it's not your fault and to find other avenues. Being in a rut is not solved by shaming yourself. Fuck this guy.

I think to refine what Sam is saying is that the pursuit of people to solve loneliness is counter productive because you will not find good friendships when you do that.
Go to the gym, go to church, make eye contact and say hello to people. Spend more time asking people about themselves and their lives instead of talking about yourself. Just be a pleasant human being to talk to and don’t be a weird ass and you’ll be fine

I know that when you are lonely, the best thing you could ever do for yourself is make something of yourself. The easiest way is to just work as much as possible as a distraction, you'll make hella money and also have no time to think about solitude. work towards a goal and just don't stop, people will flock to you, if not you can have your own reassurance that you are doing something for the betterment of your existence, regardless of other humans being involved in your life. Take it with a grain of salt but I never felt as good as I did last year when I was busting my ass to make something of myself, and I was completely on my own during that process.

Time alone is extremely valuable and when you get your best stuff done. Last year I was engaged and had everything planned out, was looking at buying an apartment and constantly surrounded by people and my fiance. My fiance left me and everything went out the window. This year I've been completely alone and didn't realise how much I'd missed solitude. Yeah it sucks that my fiance left me, but I'm still kicking and now I wake up on Saturday mornings and it's the best feeling in the world knowing the whole day and the next is 100% mine to do whatever I choose. I've also been making great progress at the gym after letting myself go the past few years. I found a girl on a dating app who is happy to have sex every now and then and for now it isn't complicated (dunno how long that will last but I'm too tired to think about the future any more).
Frankly I can't get enough of it. When Sunday ends and I know on Monday morning I'll have to go back to work and be around people and interact with them I always feel like I haven't had enough time to myself.

I had the same problem after I broke up with my long-term girlfriend. It’s cliché, but participating in hobbies nearly instantly cured me of the loneliness. Even if you’re not actively searching for it, you will meet like-minded people. This doesn’t apply to video games, I’m talking about IRL hobbies.
