My dad first played this song to me when I was a child and it has become one of my favorite acoustic guitar performances ever. Obviously, we all know the original song, as it's one of the most well-known guitar riffs/songs of all time without question, but this chilled out acoustic version from MTV Unplugged has it's own vibe and soul. There are some other, 'higher viewed' acoustic versions of the song, but in my opinion, they don't come close to this version, and this is Eric Clapton in his prime. Although it is the 'acoustic version' of the original song, it's a very different piece of music, which is what I adore about songwriting. You can represent a song in so many different ways, and if the foundation of song is good, the 'walls' that are built around it can be built up in so many different shapes and forms. This is a little more of a 'beginner' song than some of the others you're used to from me, but there's still a lot to be learned from it, and is a really fun tune to play. Hope you enjoy it :)

Jamie Harrison is not just synonymous with great music anymore, he has successfully established himself as a brand of visual and aural perfection! The vibe and the aura, he is able to propagate through his music/vidoes onto the listener is something really unique and special!!
This was spectacular. When I was about 14, I learned to play this version of the song for my mom as Clapton is one of her all time favorite musicians. I'm now 23 and as soon as I saw this, I sent it to her (like I've done with some of your other stuff) because I know she's gonna love it. You make it look so much smoother than I can do it even almost 10 years later 😂 awesome as always Jamie!

This guitar has such a great sound
One of the first songs I learned back in 09 when i put down guitar hero and picked up a real one. Im on a personal protest now. Havent played for real in years. I stay in tune. But i wont get serious serious again until i get a les paul. Almost there. Pay off car, buy dream guitar. (2 payments left yall.) True story.

I got my first acoustic guitar for Christmas in 1999. Last year I found tabs for Layla that I had printed out from that very day. This was the first song I tried to learn on guitar and 20 years later I have never figured out how to accurately play it. Thanks for this.

To everyone taking this lesson:
If you have a strong pinky, hit the 3rd fret of the A on the Dm shape with your pinky whilst keeping the Dm shape with the rest of your hand
I couldnt imagine doing it this way.. soooo much finger gibberish.. wicked playing all the same!!!!
The easiest way out of this is to play Dm with the pinky on B string 3rd fret, then you have the ring finger free to hit the A string easily
@@Xplisyt that's what I do, and what I recommend everyone to do, however eric clapton plays that part with his middle finger

Sounded great man. The recording techniques you use on the acoustic are awesome it has such a thick sound with just the right amount of top end. Crystal clear. Playing was awesome my only complaint is I want longer solos! Haha. Great work!

I've switched my drug obsession back to music since I bought a silversky with a great blues amp recently,
perfect opportunity to go back on Jamie courses
and it brought back the flame / my love for guitar / signing
Finished learning Layla and SDBR in between Gravity and Belief to have something to sing over while I play with the RC 300 again
it's a blast I'm so thankful for the hours of work you help me dive in Jamie !
I was lacking a routine / structure and focusing my attention on high level guitar courses is helping me get natural highs along with meditation or exercises ...

I think few lyric songs are able to pleasure and entertain as much as this one only by playing the harmonies/instrumental sections. I can only think of Hotel California and Sultans of Swing. Amazing technique, amazing execution!

Jamie you seem to have a Glass ball when selecting tunes to my taste.....years ago i worked in Arnotts when in school and it came upto my birthday in the Summer.... the staff did a whip around to buy the MTV Unplugged CD as i had never heard this and i mentioned i had just bought a guitar. Still to this day one of the best presents ive ever got. Old Love literally got me through my leaving cert Art project !

I’ve been playing guitar for about 15 months. And seeing this makes me feel like I’d break my fingers trying those barre chords
This may sound a joke at first, but hang with me. Try barring those chords with your pinky rather than your ring finger. Your pinky finger is more "bone-y", so I find it's easier to press down on the strings with than my ring finger. It's also how Eric Clapton pays them!
Completely rewrote his own song into a better version of it. This has become the definitive version to me. The mojo of this version is just excellent. Nice boots btw.
