This video motivates me to keep makin' beats to this day... One day I found this video and realized that Pete is using the same technique on the MP as I did (And naive as I was, I tought that I am the first one) I own a 2000xl SE3 too.. Pete Rock is a genius! shoutout to future music magazine for this video!
i saw this video and bought my 2th mpc now i have the 2000xl and the 2500 LE pete rock is a legend every beat he did is a musical masterpiece thank god that he gave us pete rock much love and respect from germany
Yo, a big HAPPY 44'th BIRTHDAY to my man, The Soul Brotha Numba One, aka The Chocolate Boy Wonder, aka Pete Rock. Happy Bday Gee! 6-21-70 BOOM BAP, ORIGINAL RAP
What impresses me the most about Pete is what he did with the Ohio Players obscure LP cut of "What's Goin' On'". That song was like 8 minutes long & the best part of it comes right at the fade. Not only did Pete take the time to find it, he managed to take a sample that was very limited timewise & flipped into the classic beauty that was & is "Lots Of Lovin'". The Ohio Players about 8 mins meandering & wasted the best part of the song, which came at the fade & it should've been the foundation.
@blacklightday don't forget Organized Noize, who pretty much created the sound of Southern hip hop music in the 90's and early 2000's namely in the ATL
I bought my mpc a couple of weeks ago (still not received) only for the first 0.23 seconds of this video. I hope I will make beats like that. If you like music, keep on your dream and do it! Pete Rock=classic.
i just hooked up my XL today, i bought a $11.00 IDE CF reader at Microcenter, w/ 1gb kingston card. upgraded to 1.20 os. bought an external scsi zip drive and then loaded each and every sound-sequence on the MPC, then save them to the CF card 1 by 1. I also installed the EB-16 effects, 8 Outs, 32 mb Ram, digital smtpe chip, and soon buying the flash rom..for $200. sounds high but was originally $850. there is good reasons for having this flash rom. i own the MPC3000 but rather work with the XL.
because it's cut up into itty bitty little pieces..so he's playing a looping sequence of said pieces..therefor he can change the tempo without artifacts.
And the year is 2022....hello friends 👋🏿 Side note: as many times as I've seen this vid over the years, I'm just now subbing to this channel. I'm #666 🙃
@themrschantz maybe you hold off on the flashrom the card reader usually act like the flashrom. It loads sounds automatically.Have one uninstalled it just got in the way.No one ever really use the stock sounds anyway. And it sucks up ram.32megabytes its more than enough but not a whole lot.Take that 200.00 bucks and buy a hard drive with a cd drive. Then your beasting.
by pete doing this video it really shows the listener how we feel and think when we chop. the 2000xl is my favorite..i know that many believe that every mpc after the 3000 is a cheap copy, but i own the 3000, infact ive owned the mpc60ii, the 2000, 2000xl,mpc 500 which i think is garbage for the money. yes its portable but for the money u can pick up a used xl. the 4000 is questionable, 2500 is building off of the xl but doesnt sound as good. i love the xl,have 2 of them incase the lcd burns out
Thank You All For Viewing And Commenting! Yeah, the beats in this video are monstrous! Plz Visit my new channel CZcams.com/user/CultureKingVisual and Subscribe!
Yeah because it's not a single loop and rather a bar cut into 8th's all that speeding it up does in play less of each sample. Clever idea becasuse you don't notice the chops.
hey dude. i like the 2000xl more because of the features but i hear the 2000 classic is a slight bit more punchy? is this true? thanks for all input :)
pete rock, jay dilla, timbaland, pharrell, no id, eric sermon, hi-tek, mister cee, kanye, hi tek, the dungeon family, + maybe dr. dre & rza, are probably the best...i've always thought that people jock premiere waaaaay too hard
its all taste. i think premier is one of the best personally, and as much as i love jay dee some of his beats sound like theyre doing too much. also gotta remember preem was THE producer in the 90s for a reason
Hey great sound. I am just starting out and i don't know what record to get. i like the sound in the begging of this video what record can i get sound from like the one you use in this video?
is the mpc 2000 classic more punchy and warm thanthe 2000xl? this is what i was told and its the only thing holding me back from a 2kxl. also i heard the 2kxl sounds kinda like the 1000.
+jaqantae emazingo pete rock! j dilla is all hype no one actually likes him! his beats are just vocal samples yelping over and over with the loudest boom map drums ever. at least pete rock has grooves to his beats!!
what machine is that Black one that he starts out on at 4:30? I notice when he says about the diff in the MPC and the SP ,the camera zooms in on that black one.For a minute I thought it mighta been the 5000 but the screen isnt the same. what is it?
+Alex looks like the numark dxm pro. veeery good battle mixer, I own it, too. it still runs like on the first day, and thats after years and years of mixing scratching and club usage!!! IMO the best bass EQ out there... The low EQ bandwidth is so well chosen that if you kill the bass it doesnt sound like telephone but if the bass actually quit playing! I also own a Urei 1601 but of course with an isolator EQ the whole loudness drops if you kill the bass... thats annoying when mixing... I prefere the Numark's EQ!!! Peace =) I forgot, there is also the Numark X5 which is technically the same as the dxm pro but facelifted. So you can imagine how good the mixer is if they just released it a second time!
Probably thought because its the 2000XL SE3, that it was the MPC 3K Special Edition Dilla is known for using, because of the color and angle its filmed.
spit like the beat box im the new version of pete rock lol jk but look out for pete on kanyes next album A Good Ass Job.....ATTENTION!!!: i need some new drums to play with...anyone know any songs were i can sample some plain clean sharp drums in edison..tell me some names and ill share alot
@KASHMEREIGUANASEVEN...Even if he said 3000 anyone who knows mpcs should know by the button and pad configuration that it is a 2000XL. On EVERY 3000 i have seen the screen and the pads are on the left side of the machine. The classic 2000 and the XL have pads on the right and the screen on the left. At least do your research before you go on the internet lying about what you have.
forget the name of the sample cuz you will never make a better version the pets.. lol ....i want to know the name of the song!...word up..if there ever was a asong.
Here from Eminem saying that he uses the MPC 2000 on Square Dance's Genius annotation, lol

Stephen Dean
Not Ye's best, I still have CD as his magnum opus but MBDTF definitely comes in 2nd.
Rob Salido for me it's MBDTF, LR Then CD. I think we agree that all those albums are great though
I don't know how I found this video 10 years ago but it blew my mind.

Woah, what he did with that Pat Benatar sample!! That's some next level sh*t.
The song at the end is "Love is a battlefield by Benatar"
Name of the song: Love Is A Battlefield (by Pat Benatar)
my own taste brought me
Word
when I first saw this video I was like... damn... gotta have an MPC ! ;D
because it's cut up into itty bitty little pieces..so he's playing a looping sequence of said pieces..therefor he can change the tempo without artifacts.

then use the zip disks to transfer the beat to your computer
awesome interview!!

@smthrsjms69 - correction ! THE BEST to ever touch the drum machine !
anyone one man, all u need to make sure of is that the turntable has outputs and inputs
by pete doing this video it really shows the listener how we feel and think when we chop. the 2000xl is my favorite..i know that many believe that every mpc after the 3000 is a cheap copy, but i own the 3000, infact ive owned the mpc60ii, the 2000, 2000xl,mpc 500 which i think is garbage for the money. yes its portable but for the money u can pick up a used xl. the 4000 is questionable, 2500 is building off of the xl but doesnt sound as good. i love the xl,have 2 of them incase the lcd burns out
@oDJOldskull The current TTX does not overheat

Thank You All For Viewing And Commenting! Yeah, the beats in this video are monstrous!
Plz Visit my new channel CZcams.com/user/CultureKingVisual and Subscribe!
Eminem birthed me here
Yeah because it's not a single loop and rather a bar cut into 8th's all that speeding it up does in play less of each sample. Clever idea becasuse you don't notice the chops.

pete rock, jay dilla, timbaland, pharrell, no id, eric sermon, hi-tek, mister cee, kanye, hi tek, the dungeon family, + maybe dr. dre & rza, are probably the best...i've always thought that people jock premiere waaaaay too hard

This is true. There’s something about the 2kOG I don’t know if it’s compression but I have both and the OG simply kicks!
do you need a record player to get samples? Can i just use songs i have on itunes, mp3, and such?

I just want 2 hear opinions. Cause it's hard to tell. J.Dilla or Pete Rock when it comes 2 beats. Shits hard to tell

+jaqantae emazingo Pete Rock, 9th Wonder, Premier, J Dilla are the top producers in Hip Hop PERIOD!
+jaqantae emazingo pete rock! j dilla is all hype no one actually likes him! his beats are just vocal samples yelping over and over with the loudest boom map drums ever. at least pete rock has grooves to his beats!!
+Kyle Cruz you're entitled to your opinion but.... What?
@ 1:08 is that a beat he put on a album if so anyone know the name
@themrschantz how do you upgrade the OS just wondering
what machine is that Black one that he starts out on at 4:30? I notice when he says about the diff in the MPC and the SP ,the camera zooms in on that black one.For a minute I thought it mighta been the 5000 but the screen isnt the same.
what is it?
Mpc 2000xlSE
What mixer is he using?
+Alex looks like the numark dxm pro. veeery good battle mixer, I own it, too. it still runs like on the first day, and thats after years and years of mixing scratching and club usage!!! Numark TTX. Personally I DO NOT recommend u that turntable because of overheating.
cool
okay its just another 2000xl with a diff plate on it???
1:08 how does he manually speed it up w/o time shifting or tuning up?
Music Therapy bpm

Incredible use ? Sorry but playing pads in reversed pattern isn't close to impossible to do by anyone else.
siva How eloquent...
+oDJOldskull It's the way that he chopped and played it which makes his use of the mpc great.
@KASHMEREIGUANASEVEN...Even if he said 3000 anyone who knows mpcs should know by the button and pad configuration that it is a 2000XL.
