If memory serves, the "hang the DJ!" line is in reference to former BBC radio DJ Steve Wright. The song was written just after the Chernobyl disaster, when Morrissey and Johnny Marr were listening to the reports on the radio detailing the horror of it all, only for Wright to follow it up with chirpy pop music, which Morrissey clearly thought was crass x
Hi, greetings from Chicago! I am a sub, and I want to request a reaction to any one or all of these great songs - I predict a Riot by Kaiser Chiefs, You got my number by The Undertones, and Super Group by Shonen Knife!
You show a bad understanding of the song. Your comment "what did the DJ ever do" shows you don't understand the basic premise of the song. Reacting to music needs a good understanding of not just the song but also the time and culture.
The song is saying the British mainstream music culture is weak and does not enable kids to think for themselves. And stifling the evolution of culture. So we want to kill the DJ to save our culture.

Didnt know that fact!Thanx!interesting! 💟
This song inspired the name of the group Panic! At the Disco.
I didn't know that, that's pretty cool
Panic was a single in the UK and then shunted on to later compilation albums
Music on the UK radio stations was crap back then.
Great reaction to a great song by a nice young guy!Respect!
