    my 1980 Goldwing has over 1 million miles (and counting) on the stock pistons (replaced the heads a couple of times) - Changing my oil every 1000 miles on the 1000 is what got her there - The better you take care of your equipment - the longer it will last you

    I've taken the ignition switch out of my 85 several times to repair it. Loose connections in the pigtail right near where the wires solder on and worn contacts. Trimmed off a bit of the wires and fresh solder back to where they go. Thin coat of solder over the contacts and it was good as new. The fuse box had a couple of copper fuse holding fingers that broke from being brittle over time. Found a 86 fuse box on eBay. Keep plenty of spare fuses under the seat. Occasionally have to change one out on a ride to cure poor connection until I get home and clean the fuse contacts well. I recommend testing and changing the spark plug caps ever oil change. The ngk ones get corrosion and it's just easier to replace them although they can be taken apart and cleaned. Best advice an old hippie in fl ever gave was change the oil every thou on the dot. Maybe the bike will come visit again sometime 😊

    @Xeil Yeah -- I gotta adjust em in the morning -- The 450 it's required about every 3 to 4000 miles -- they like to bring the gap in too far on the exhaust valves -- The 450 Rebel did the same thing at about the same interval -- Whereas the 70's versions of the CB450's hell just check the valve adjustment every 8000 or so - those would always hold

    Did you ever did the valve adjustment video for the nighthawk? At what intervals should I adjust the valves? Thanks

    • @dawino6260
      @dawino6260  Před 4 lety +2

      I did for some other bikes with similar tappers (set the gap according to what the book says for your engine though) ... I check em every 10,000 miles or so .. usually they are still good ... only adjust em if they are more than a cooter hair off ...

    I've got one of the CB650SCT's (Nighthawk Turbo) running -- the other one will take me another year or so Same block as the regular one but 154hp at the rear wheel -- and I'd bet it could take more without hurting it... My only complaint with the whole Nighthawk family is the wimpy fork brace on my 82 750 - fixed it with one from a Goldwing

    Is that sound i'm hearing the valves? Sure is clanky sounding.
    That's a pretty bike. I would love to own the 900 version.

    @hondahobbiter14 Depending on condition they range from 12000 to 1500 if they start and move on their own power to and 3500 to 5500 if they are museum pieces (the 68/69 will bring 5000 all day long if it's all really original (including the paint) while a restored 68/69 will bring 3500 to 4000 no problem -- all other years 3000 to 3500 is top dollar. Averages in prime condition seem to be 2500 to 3500 with good looking runners falling in at 2000 to 2500

    @dawino6260  Před 12 lety

    @hondahobbiter14 The Cb350's are money bikes -- The better candidate for a Cafe racer from the 350 family is the SL350 - but only the 70 SL350 has the hot cam and the electric starter - The CB and CL350's are easy restorations and the collectors value is going off the scale - That 71 I just sold the bidding closed at 2500 - cost of bike and resto I had about 2 weeks and 1200 bucks in it - My Cherried 68 (K0) went for 5400 on ebay back in October last year

    can you suggest where to look for a new main wiring harness? for my 1983 cb650 sc honda nighthawk

    For the cam chain tensioner, can you replace the spring without pulling the cylinders off? The only description I've found related in the manuals is on a complete rebuild with the cylinder head and cylinders are already taken off.

    • @dawino6260
      @dawino6260  Před 10 lety

      usually it's a 2 bolt wonder (except a true 85) - you're only replacing that little spring - DONT turn the engine while it's out. release the clip and let the rod back in the adjuster while it's out put the spring in after the assembly is back in - tap it with the plastic end of a screwdriver to get it seated before starting the engine

    changing the oil every 1000 miles?! My cb450sc has 30k miles and has had the oil changed every 4k as the manual specifies and it's never had an issue.

  • @cactusbaboon321
    @cactusbaboon321 Před 10 lety

    On these CBs have you ever messed with the "auto adjustment" (per Clymer) for the cam chain tensioner?

    • @dawino6260
      @dawino6260  Před 10 lety

      Yup - i usually just pull em, clean em and pop em back in with a fresh spring unless i see something I shouldn't. or if I can lay my hands on a good old fashioned manual adjuster (new of course)

    I made it but had to trash it -- even though it was a black guy someone used the N-word a bunch in the background so I ended out trashing it. However--- I do intend to do another one - Just a matter of getting around to it -

  • @dawino6260
    @dawino6260  Před 12 lety

    there were 3 versions of the carbs -- e-nag me a pic of the bottom of your bowl and I happen to have all 3 sets out at the moment -- wouldn't bother me a bit to upload a vid -- Your main jets need to go 20 up to pull off straight pipes -- also means you are looking for a pair of either Yamaha TEK or Nology Pro-fire coils -- DO NOT go up a heat range thinking that will solve it - you'll end out with sticking exhaust valves quick

    My 85 450 Nighthawk is making that clicking noise, and it's a bit louder after I changed the oil. Will it hurt the bike if I ride it around some before I have a chance to adjust the valves?

    • @dawino6260
      @dawino6260  Před 10 lety

      Weak spring in the timing chain tensioner will make that noise too -

    • @jeremiahhumphries66
      @jeremiahhumphries66 Před 10 lety +1

      Is that something that can cause problems?

    • @dawino6260
      @dawino6260  Před 10 lety

      yup - I always check my cam chain tension before adjusting valves - part of my routine go-through before I put em on the road ...

    75 80 mpg my ass

    • @dawino6260
      @dawino6260  Před 3 lety

      All depends on how you set em up -- 75 to 80 is a valid number as long as you keep it under 55/60 mph and the bikes set up right --- You can also set em up to piss so much fuel OPEC will smile every time you turn the key

  • @dawino6260
    @dawino6260  Před 12 lety

    Then you're using about 3 electronics suppliers and making one -- All of the connectors are still available -- cb750parts (with a com after it) had harnesses from a wannabee replica company for a while but the quality was crappy
