Urban sketching is drawing urban interiors from life. I think your definition in the beginning was good but its not ”drawing from life” Because its not drawing nature, people or interiors from life it is specifically urban interiors
The official manifesto of urban sketchers states 'We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.' So it can incorporate anything in your environment really :)
No question is dumb! The official definition of urban sketching is 'drawing' the world around you. Pen is the easiest thing available which makes a permanent mark. Everyone has a pen on them and we are all used to using it, and its also extremely portable. Having said that there are videos on my channel where I use pencils, oil pastels and even digital drawing for my urban sketches. There's no 'right' way of doing it, it's just that the majorty of sketchers use the pen and ink/watercolour method. For me at least, urban sketching is more about the subject than about the material!
One day! You can build up confidence slowly. I have had this channel for over 10 years but I have only thought to put up my work now😂 trust me, you will know when its time, don't worry

Anna, refer to the Urban Sketcher Manifesto for clarification. I think you will find it’s a comprehensive practice.
