    I use pellets soaked in Metro and it's been a very effective treatment as long as you catch problems early and your fish are eating. I know Seachem is probably a sponsor but that Metroplex is so expensive compared to pure metro powder, if you have to actually treat a tank the cost can really add up fast. I've also had to treat colonies so rather than just treat the food I needed to take action swiftly and just treat the tank. Thank you for doing these videos, they may save someone some heartache.

    My dwarf gourami died, he had a parasite called Hexamita. My fish actually had a swollen stomach. My Aguaculturist specialises in ornamental fish diseases. He opened up my fish and saw the parasites under a microscope.. I am lucky enough to have a specialist in the field in my neighbourhood..

  • @HalfManHalfCichlid
    @HalfManHalfCichlid Před 8 lety +18

    As a biologist and 25 years with African cichlids, I am very interested in the results of your experiments. Hexamita as we know is the major contributor towards Malawi bloat. Sometimes the fish bloat, sometimes they become emaciated. In my experience once in shows up, the parasites have already done irreversible damage to the internal organs of the fish. Recovery is infrequent with medications and there is generally lasting fish issues such as emaciation, and general weakness. This is why prevention has to be of upmost importance. For me this means Epsom salts, no krill or bloodworms in the diet, using a metro infused fish food, and mixing vegetable pellets into their diets.

    I use Melafix to treat isolated fish in a tank and to treat a tank with new fish (use for 3 days). I recently had to treat a couple African Cichilds. The Frontosa was not himself and had cloudy eyes a newer fish had body and fin damage. I removed them and treated a 20 gallon tank with Melafix and they are doing fine now. I've also soaked pellets in Epsom salt every so often to keep them regular.

    I just had a very established 76 Gallon chiclid tank literally die off(all 14 fish) within a week and a half's time. Even a very hardy pleco. I have NO idea what happened. This was shortly after a big cleaning. Nothing I haven't done in the past though. Even new fish I introduced after the cleaning died. I tested for ammonia and nitrates, no issues there. PH good too. I used all clean and contaminant free containers and tools to do the cleaning. I am shocked and pissed. Dont know what happened. It all started with one fish with a cloudy eye, then like wild fire fish became chalky ashy in color, lethargic and slapping against the rocks and glass and one by one just died. I treated with salts and meds no help at all. Tank is now running fish less. I am fearful to do anything. I am two seconds from throwing the whole thing in the garbage and starting from scratch. Any thoughts? Any idea how i can thoroughly test the water to see if something is the culprit?

    I had a great success with Metroplex and my shubunkins and koi. I created a dough from bread and egg and a bit of flour and garlic powder and a dose of the meds. I kneeded it until it became like pizza dough. Then you can make tiny balls and control which fish you throw it too! I believe that can be used for any fish type that is plant based diet. Good luck! (I found that trying to soak pre-formed pellets with that med is not good enough. Fish spit it out and then more of it leaches out into the tank, than gets eaten. I really like my formula)

    Hi,
    Is there part two that you mentioned in the video?
    Cannot seem to find it. I would like to know if this treatment was successful.

    what can you do if your fish spit the food out repeatedly? I've tried flakes, pellets and brine shrimp and blood worms. they want to eat but spit the food out, medicated or not.

    Ok so I had a tank with like 7 guppies and a beta I have an automatic feeder on the tank because I have a very busy schedule and sometimes forget to feed them
    When I came to the tank today for the first time in a few days all but one of my guppies were killed and being eaten by my mystery snails and I found some tiny white worm like things swimming around

    For those of us who don't have frozen blood worms on hand, can the same steps be completed using flakes and pellets?

    • @KGTropicals
      @KGTropicals  Před 8 lety +4

      Pellets yes but flakes not so much, they just turn to mush. I'm gonna talk about doing this with pellets in part 2. Pellets soak the Garlic Guard up allot faster.
