Bought this bike in May as a companion to a Tiger 900 RP. Turns out that the Tiger will be going up for sale as this bike suits the adventure criteria better for me than the Triumph. I also bought a 300L in August as my son is now trail riding with me as well. I have 4 months of weekly dual sport riding racked up and know these 2 bikes very well. For those considering the two they are best described as the Rally being 60/40 and the L being 40/60. I have modified both extensively but bars, risers, wrap arounds, skid plate and pegs are the first things on the list in my opinion.
I took the Rally on a multi day trip along with friends on AT's and a T7. The Rally was superb on both mountain trails and twisty pavement while averaging nearly 80 mpg on our175 mile days. With the 3.5gallon tank the range is nearly 250 miles. The Tiger will eventually be traded for a higher performance dual sport as that type of riding has become a new passion.

I live in Mid Wales, so loads of lanes & tracks, I ran the 2019 250l for 2 years (9k miles) and bought this Rally to replace it and I'm very happy with it, lots of nice slight upgrades that make this bike much more capable and more importantly, more enjoyable, I really like it and other than tyres, handguards and metal bashplate, I'm keeping it stock, I highly recommend it !!

As a 250 Rally owner ,I've been waiting for this review Mr. Fish! The closest I've been is sitting on the 300. I was impressed by how light the clutch is. I couldn't find any reviews done by 250 owners ,so thanks again Mr. Fish for doing this!

    Hi Fish,
I bought one in October. I had an ATAS and inadvertently got into the green lane side of things. Found the ATAS far too big and heavy to learn on. Traded in for a 300 Rally. Awesome machine. I’m now more confident as it’s easier to pick up!
Decked mine out in Outback Motortek crash bars, albeit they’ve been removed from their website now🤷🏼‍♂️
Still on stock tyres. Will upgrade at some point, any recommendations?
200+ miles per tank is easily achieved.
I too find the standing position cramped. I’m looking at some wider, higher bars.
Other than that it’s pretty sorted out of the box. The suspension is soft but it’s still far more capable than my skill level off road so I’ll keep it as is for the time being.
Overall I love it. I miss the road manners of my ATAS but can’t justify two bikes in the garage. This is a good compromise, seeing as most of my riding is now green lanes.
Keep up the videos, top stuff. 👍🏻
    All the best.

Great review, thanks for all the info, I’ve just secured my 300L, looking forward to getting it home in the couple of weeks or so, this is an addition to the stable, I own a Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro & absolutely love it, however I want to keep that for the longer trips, both will be used off road but the CRF300L will be the main one for the rough stuff, stay safe and all the best 🤙🏻

Sweet Mr Fish! New to your channel. Good review. Real world informative and entertaining commentary. I have a 2018 CRF250L which I have tweaked. YSS rear suspension, 13T front sprocket, 12oclocklabs speedo fix and GPI. Keen to switch to the Rally model and wondering whether 300 is worth the extra $$$.

Even though the gas tank is bigger on the 300 wouldn't it do about the same mileage as the 250 because the engine is bigger on the 300 so they had to put the bigger fuel tank to compensate for the bigger motor I would guess but I'm not sure. I really enjoy the channel thank you

I'm thinking about either this or a second hand 250 as a second bike to complement my Z1000SX, to use for London commuting and the occasional green laning.
The alternative would be a Himalayan. I get on really well with the Himalayan, being a little shorter on leg (170cm height, 76cm inseam) but can't seem to find a CRF to sit on due to the lack of stock down my way. I just have to keep on trying.
Thanks for the review. Budget wise I'd probably opt for a pre-loved CRF250 over a new 300.

Could you send me a list of valid upgrades I could do to the CRF 250 rally . Main problems:I am 181 cm tall and standing on pegs feels cramped , when I go on motorway with friends it's tough on the bike to keep 125kph (max speed 127kph ), and suspension too soft .

I've ridden both. The 300 is better and more capable for riding on the street and then to fire trails. However, if I was doing muddy trails or off-road technical trails, the 250 for me is more fun and easier. If I can ever find a 250 for the right price, that is why I would add it to my garage beside the 300.
