Purple?! That would be cool, I love Purple Velvet, it's an old BMW colour from the 80's with a little more red in it that just glows... sadly this bike will be satin black at the end, it's gonna be a stealth fighter for sure, but we are planning a fresh project soon to run alongside this and that will be a visual makeover on a rare bike and I have an open palette for colours, so watch this space!
I did have a little laugh when I think you found a spare key under the tank on top of the heat shield. Lol. I find it amazing watching the wiring as it’s a mine field to me. So well done mate. And at no point was it boring. Glad your doing well also mate. Ian.
Hi Ian, I should have mentioned that in the video but people don't tend to watch waffle, but that key is a funny story, when I got the bike the previous owner had hammered a screwdriver down through the ignition barrel so he could use the bike, he apparently lost the key at a rally and this was his solution, I guess it looks like I found it for him... DOH! I guess he should have looked harder for it.... ;-) Getting stronger every day as well mate, the meds are doing their job and following all the advice with exercise and rest.

I so wish I'd said something about that key...! It's quite a funny story, the previous owner hammered a screwdriver through the ignition barrel because he lost the key at a weekend bike rally,... I guess I found it for him! Also with the plugs on this, I'm really only labeling them for double safety as Suzuki sensibly make every single plug connection different, there aren't two the same on the whole bike, so nothing will plug in to the wrong connection, but it does speed it up a little knowing what's what!

Glad you are taking your time with the harness, I don't think I would have the patients to do that, I would have cut it to reduce the amount of wire and then joined it all again. 👍
That wasn't necessary in the end mate, it curved nicely round the motor under the tank... but even if it hadn't.. it never ends well when you start rutting it about..

I don't build my bikes for people to approve of buddy..i build them for me.! That curved one piece tail panel was a proper challenge to roll by hand from flat sheet metal..something not many people can do, and the same with the rest of it, i learned more from building that than anything so far.... and ill be keeping it for posterity too.. it's expected that anything that doesn't follow a strict genre or conform to the "rules" of certain styles becomes maligned... so in that way it was successfully unique, whether people liked it or not aye.!!

They bundle up their corridors, these gizmos of the game, no three wire six volt system, nor magnetos fit for flame. Their command posts lie aplenty, with multi-plugs between, & all wants & needs must flow within, vast wiring loops, unseen, the precision in their progress, needs all sensors making sense, or an interdepartmental wrangle, could lob you through the fence. (You know the feeling, it all clips back together nicely, you press the horn & . . . the upstairs toilet flushes . .Y'all : ) xx
Jez, I started tearing a bike down about a Yr ago, doing bits at a time. Near the part where I have to rework wiring. Move the ecu as it was originally on the outside of the frame behind fairing. Dreading it big time. Plus I ain't got a clue. But hey got to start sometime lol.
You can do it buddy, just take yer time and enjoy the journey, treat every task as a separate stand-alone project by it's self... makes it a bit less daunting i find..!
I've spent my whole life designing, making and fitting wiring harnesses for cars thru to jet engines and I have to agree with you Del, it's boring. But it paid the bills and allowed for an early retirement, so can't complain too much. Dave. P.S. I've lost count how many times I've cut through a wire taking tape or weave of a harness and had to run a new wire in. You can't solder it back together on aircraft. Flux and altitude have an undesired effect..
Hi Dave, good to hear from you, and I am but an amoeba in electrical skill compared to you, but even I learned a long time ago, never to put joins in wiring if you can help it! I've learned it's fine grafting factory plugs on to aftermarket indicators so you can plug them straight in, specially when the indicators are made in China and everything is sealed so I can't fit the new wires internally, but quite a few people here have said just 'chop the loom short', but I've never known that to be anything but disastrous... it'll always fail at the joins in the future, far better to leave it alone as the factory intended and just re-route it... thanks for your insight, it's great to have you watching!
@@Moonfleet41 Most vehicle wiring harnesses are designed with bundles of earth wires crimped and soldered together at points along the harness and are protected with a heatshrink cap or sleeve. Which isn't too much of a problem and if anything goes wrong you can pull into a lay-by. But it's a big NO NO on aircraft as the flux can cause corrosion if not cleaned off properly and if anything goes wrong there are no lay-bys at 40,000 feet. It is a shame it's so difficult to get the original connectors and crimps. Pitty I don't work in that industry anymore,

Im no electrician mate.. but i learned decades ago.. NEVER cut and chop wiring out to hide or get rid of it.. you need ALL of it, everything is inter connected in some way or another, once you start chopping, you only end up with problems.. just tuck it out of site.
Spaghetti Junction! I hate all the excess wiring on bikes that can often be re routed or removed. Nice, simple and effective solution there Del! Always good to watch you work!

ha ha, i clean forgot to mention that... and it's proper funny... When i bought the bike, the last owner had literally screw drivered the lock butchering it to death.. if you saw the very first ever Hayabusa video i made on this bike (in the play list), i had to replace the ignition barrel and tank cap... He told me he had hammered a screw driver through the lock because he lost the key when away at a rally..... i Guess i found it for him...DOH..!
It does serve that purpose also, but it's main duty is to prevent the hot air from the header pipes getting pushed up and flooding around the air box, heating it up... things like this often serve many purposes but they'll always have a main core function...
Long old story, but Yes it was once... the last owner had chiselled the ignition barrel through because apparently he lost the only key he had...it was the very first video i made when i first got the bike... i replaced the barrel and tank cap with a new set and two new keys.... i guess i found his key for him...Doh.!

Good subject buddy, I think that one would be for a Q&A rather than a plain video, if you want the quick answer, then most modern bikes can use E10 just fine, I do have a concern about the water content in the ethanol in particular with plastic fuel tanks, I had problems with my Harley XR1200 tank swelling up over this and some Ducatis had it so bad the tanks were fracturing, and apparently there's more ethanol in this E10, but the simple solution run it on super 98ron and you'll be fine ... all we have to worry about is that our glorious government will probably boot us in the plums over the price, it's planned to go up by 14p a litre which is just plain punishment... but time will tell, fuel is a competitive market and the supermarkets always keep it reasonable!
Sadly mate, it can all be exciting, that's how projects go, there is often a lot of mundane and regular work that isn't "putting engines in" and "doing burnouts"... but that's what makes the end result all the more satisfying for me.. unlike the world of OCC where they build a custom chopper in a 45 minute show, those bike are up to a years work... this is what it's really like.... It's a drain condenser mate..like a little catch tank, the airbox and crank case breather hoses feed into it, and it has a drain hose with a plug on the end... it collects the oily condensation water so it can be drained by a service technician at intervals...it naturally collects that creamy grey residue as it's oil mist and water vapour... always good to clean them out and make sure they're clean.

Hi Paul, my word, you're is very posh, unlike my raggedy ol' dog!... but in terms of wear and tear, I renewed everything in the previous build, brakes, every single bearing on the bike and it's a low mileage engine, which is still crisp and tight... I did think to, maybe, take mine in the shiny direction, but I just wanna finish it and ride it and I have a certain look in mind... yours is practically a magazine bike mate, I presume that's a Gen1? What clock pod did you use? As I don't fancy using the huge dash, I was even thinking of running no clocks at all... just like the Destroyer Busa? Great channel mate, love your presentation!

@@paulmcnugget Thanks Paul, I've got that on the watch list now, I did see a few options and a couple of viewers mentioned Gixxer 1000 clocks, I guess I was hoping there would just be a plug-in option, but that would be too easy lol but as I want this thing real bare bones I was actually thinking of running no clocks at all as I have a tiny GPS speedo that's literally 2" x 1.5" and tucks in out the way, but it's whether the bike will run and everything will function without the clocks plugged in... I'll have to see when I get to that point, I've got a lot of fabrication to do now making some furniture for the front and a minimal tail unit from scratch, am really gonna try to push this the way of the Destroyer Busa... although I can't afford the 360 back end at nearly £6k lol Thanks again mate, subscribed now so I'll be watching your videos, once again I love your presentation, your Channel will be huge one day, cheers mucka all the best, Del

For bikes with carbs I just use the motogaget m unit. Crazy simple and gets rid of sooooo much clutter , and brings the bikes into the modern world.

You can't solder it back together on aircraft. Flux and altitude have an undesired effect..
Hi Dave, good to hear from you, and I am but an amoeba in electrical skill compared to you, but even I learned a long time ago, never to put joins in wiring if you can help it! I've learned it's fine grafting factory plugs on to aftermarket indicators so you can plug them straight in, specially when the indicators are made in China and everything is sealed so I can't fit the new wires internally, but quite a few people here have said just 'chop the loom short', but I've never known that to be anything but disastrous... it'll always fail at the joins in the future, far better to leave it alone as the factory intended and just re-route it... thanks for your insight, it's great to have you watching!
@@Moonfleet41 Most vehicle wiring harnesses are designed with bundles of earth wires crimped and soldered together at points along the harness and are protected with a heatshrink cap or sleeve. Which isn't too much of a problem and if anything goes wrong you can pull into a lay-by.
But it's a big NO NO on aircraft as the flux can cause corrosion if not cleaned off properly and if anything goes wrong there are no lay-bys at 40,000 feet.
It is a shame it's so difficult to get the original connectors and crimps.

Yeah, i actually enjoy fitting wired parts and making tidy connections etc.. but wrestling an old loom just doesn't inspire me that much..! not very exciting and all that... but over to fabrication after this, and that i do love..! Thanks for your support Mike, always good to hear form you mate.

Im no electrician mate.. but i learned decades ago.. NEVER cut and chop wiring out to hide or get rid of it.. you need ALL of it, everything is inter connected in some way or another, once you start chopping, you only end up with problems.. just tuck it out of site.

ha ha, i clean forgot to mention that... and it's proper funny... When i bought the bike, the last owner had literally screw drivered the lock butchering it to death.. if you saw the very first ever Hayabusa video i made on this bike (in the play list), i had to replace the ignition barrel and tank cap... He told me he had hammered a screw driver through the lock because he lost the key when away at a rally..... i Guess i found it for him...DOH..!
I really lke where you're going with the bike.
You say that is a heat shield, but that looks more like water ingress protection.
It does serve that purpose also, but it's main duty is to prevent the hot air from the header pipes getting pushed up and flooding around the air box, heating it up... things like this often serve many purposes but they'll always have a main core function...
Oh for sure, and to route airflow... stopped at a light the heat coming straight up could cause issues.

Long old story, but Yes it was once... the last owner had chiselled the ignition barrel through because apparently he lost the only key he had...it was the very first video i made when i first got the bike... i replaced the barrel and tank cap with a new set and two new keys.... i guess i found his key for him...Doh.!

Good subject buddy, I think that one would be for a Q&A rather than a plain video, if you want the quick answer, then most modern bikes can use E10 just fine, I do have a concern about the water content in the ethanol in particular with plastic fuel tanks, I had problems with my Harley XR1200 tank swelling up over this and some Ducatis had it so bad the tanks were fracturing, and apparently there's more ethanol in this E10, but the simple solution run it on super 98ron and you'll be fine ... all we have to worry about is that our glorious government will probably boot us in the plums over the price, it's planned to go up by 14p a litre which is just plain punishment... but time will tell, fuel is a competitive market and the supermarkets always keep it reasonable!

Sadly mate, it can all be exciting, that's how projects go, there is often a lot of mundane and regular work that isn't "putting engines in" and "doing burnouts"... but that's what makes the end result all the more satisfying for me.. unlike the world of OCC where they build a custom chopper in a 45 minute show, those bike are up to a years work... this is what it's really like.... Ok mate, what was that part you washed in the sink, I haven’t got that on mine, and mine is the same as yours external f fuel pump
It's a drain condenser mate..like a little catch tank, the airbox and crank case breather hoses feed into it, and it has a drain hose with a plug on the end... it collects the oily condensation water so it can be drained by a service technician at intervals...it naturally collects that creamy grey residue as it's oil mist and water vapour... always good to clean them out and make sure they're clean.
Going to be one Cool bike to ride when finished Del.

Hey buddy, thanks for those kind words... the tyres are Dunlop Mutants... there are two types, one for smaller lightweight bikes and these ones for big heavyweight bikes!

Hi Paul, my word, you're is very posh, unlike my raggedy ol' dog!... but in terms of wear and tear, I renewed everything in the previous build, brakes, every single bearing on the bike and it's a low mileage engine, which is still crisp and tight... I did think to, maybe, take mine in the shiny direction, but I just wanna finish it and ride it and I have a certain look in mind... yours is practically a magazine bike mate, I presume that's a Gen1? What clock pod did you use? As I don't fancy using the huge dash, I was even thinking of running no clocks at all... just like the Destroyer Busa? Great channel mate, love your presentation!

This is the clocks set I used from eBay not bad looks really good a bit of a mission to wire up had to use a Haynes manual loom image. eBay number 402287283696.
@@paulmcnugget Thanks Paul, I've got that on the watch list now, I did see a few options and a couple of viewers mentioned Gixxer 1000 clocks, I guess I was hoping there would just be a plug-in option, but that would be too easy lol but as I want this thing real bare bones I was actually thinking of running no clocks at all as I have a tiny GPS speedo that's literally 2" x 1.5" and tucks in out the way, but it's whether the bike will run and everything will function without the clocks plugged in...
