"Sneaking things in, but not too son" Brilliant. I try to work this out with my editor all the time. I believe you have to leave room in the scene for the audience. I writing, leave room for the reader.

8:18 At first it seems this contradicts the coaches' advice in other FC videos, but really it is a refinement. The coaches say producers or directors want to know who you are, "Why are you the best one to tell this story?" So it is understandable without specific advice (eg shut up until asked) that they would naively walk into a meeting and lead with their own background.
Lesson: Yes, they want to know who you are, but first they want to know that you can tell a story by giving it to them. Until then, stay focused on the script... unless asked.

So true that some writers are better with the pages than they are at verbalizing the story. Additionally, I know quite a few professional readers who lack storytelling skills and writing abilities.

Makes sense not to talk about yourself when pitching appealing to people about an idea. It's not just with screenwriting or other businesses, it happens with everyone. Every singer, every actor, every artist, even politicians and scientists face the same paradigm: people must acknowledge your skills and talents before they can acknowledge you as a person.
A good approach to life in general really.
"Don't be a dickhead, and take other people into consideration, and try to gauge how they are feeling so you don't make a total ass out of yourself, particularly when you are trying to enter a cooperative arrangement with them".

okay, so there is a fancy event and 2 friends at meeting after a long time apart, but then talk about man (at the event) who hates and never goes to this event.
how would i transition the dialog without it being blunt?

What mistakes did you make as a new screenwriter?
Film Courage I still make the mistake of not giving enough information in scenes. What I do these days is give the scene to a friend and just ask them if they know what's going on it.

You are perfectly correct! It's like they're all trying to narrate like Woody Allen.
I know what he means by "looking down on the audience" BUT, I think it is based more on false assumptions by the new writer, made innocently based on a lack of experience. When you learn about speed of story telling, the overwriting part becomes way more obvious.

What I see is that the majority of loglines that I read are just not captivating enough
to coincide with the title - or the title of screenplay(s)...
also - high-concept is absent completely.
I see screenplays that any number of writers could have written.
Ideas that anyone could of thought of & conjured up
...and then at least tried to execute in screenplay form.

The problem I have is that I hate this life, so I write stories that are fantastical and take me away. Then I get rejected because the worlds I create are not real, they're not based on reality. I tell them: if you want reality, then get on your four-wheeler, go up on the mountain, and look at sagebrush and a dead deer! Well... there goes my personality :(
Total BS. If you need an audience to tell you how to write, you can't write at all.
That is total BS. ."Write for your audience" is wisdom repeated in so many forms of writing, even technical writing. These videos are for everyone from noob to intermediate to possibly seasoned. There has to be a period where you learn. Even the old masters began as unskilled apprentices. It doesn't mean "can't at all."
I'm pretty sure it was you at a Lee Jessup video who took her advice so personally, it was said *she* has a chip on her shoulder. (Lol no, that doesn't mean I'm obsessed. Writers have good observational memory). There is something in the way you perceive things that may not be totally accurate.
