  • In this quick 5 1/2 min. video I show you how to chip carve a gourd using just one u-shaped hand gouge. Chip carving is a tedious technique on gourds, but rather fascinating and addicting. After chip carving you can leave the gourd as is or dye it, which I show how to in the video. by Bernadette Fox
I purchased the U-gouge shown in video from an Ebay store. Follow the link:

Archie Ray & Lisa Shue Hi! I purchase the Memories ink dye from Sawdust Connections. Follow this link: www.sawdustconnection.com/Memories-Ink-Dyes.htm
No, I actually haven't done any cartoon characters but that sounds like such a fun idea... so speaks a little crazy minion girl here lol love those guys :) I hope those gourds turn out great for you... you should be crafting with them by next spring, maybe even sooner depending on where you live. Good luck and have fun!

Archie Ray & Lisa Shue There are several dyes you could try and each will produce something a little different. What are you planning on making to start out?

What dye do you use? Thanks.

I use Memories Ink Dyes. You can also use leather dye or Adirondak alcohol ink dyes. The good thing about the Memories Ink Dyes is they are the least messy and won't run, but the alcohol based dyes blend more easily than the Memories. Depends on the look you're going for! Good luck!
