I would like to thank everyone for your excellent and helpful feedback.
So pleased to have found and subscribed to your
channel Bernadette. I need to raise money for a charity project and I have been issued this one to do my art on.
Thank you for the directions for this gourd. Will try it. I do find that I can dry the ink faster with a heat gun Iuse for embossing which saves me much time. :)
You did a fantastic job and great description of your method. Appreciated and admired. Thank you.🙂
Thanks!!! You gave me good ideas to work with calabash tree fruits. Greetings from Puerto Rico!
Awesome information Bernadette and your design is gorgeous!
Love how you gave us wanna-be-gourders a taste of every phase.
Thanks!
It's gourd season! I hope you're getting plenty. I sure am.
Just lovely - thanks for sharing this video
I have found the GourdMaster Pro Carver produces less vibration than my dremel and I also use the fili point burr for really smooth filigree carving. I had used the dremel with a flex shaft but found it difficult to control...thanks for the video
Thank you so very much for your input. I need to start over due to lost tools and would have replaced them with the exact same ones I had before.
I love your design!
Muy hermoso Bernadette... estoy aprendiendo de ti.. muchas gracias! !!

The best burs for filigree are the carbide cutting burs. Here's a link that may be helpful: www.arizonagourds.com/CarvingBurs.html

Could you please tell me which paint are you using there? Thank you.
With this particular gourd I am using alcohol based inks with several coats of polyurethane over top.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What kind of thread are you using?
I found them, thanks.
Do you use that as a vase? Can you put water in a gourd vase?
This particular gourd I made for purely decoration. Dried flowers/greenery can be used. But yes, I have also made gourds that can hold water. Best method is using Apoxy paste.
When I get my dremel out and start cutting holes in my gourds, I inevitably can't control it and end up screwing it up.
Do you have the flex-shaft attachment? That's pretty much the only way you can use a dremel for detailed work. What cutting bur/bit are you using? Sometimes it may be too rough (too thick of bit and/or too deep of teeth) and can tear up the gourd, and other times it may not be cutting into the gourd easily and it's forcing you to apply too much force on the gourd. Another possibility is the gourds you are using may not be thick enough to withstand a rotary cutting tool. The speed you are using also plays a factor. You need to find the sweet spot for the particular work you are doing. Keep trying, I am sure you will be able to get the hand of it!

No flex shaft attachment for me. I've been using the bur attachment that came with the dremel. Probably not ideal for gourd carving. I get arrogant and convince myself I'll be able to control it this time. Then I always end up with an errant cut. But that's OK. I'm just experimenting with them more than anything. I get my enjoyment out of growing them, so I'm not too disappointed when I mess one up.
Believe it or not, I actually grow them in 3 gallon pots. Kinda strange eh? I actually put a square plastic container around one while it was growing. Now I have a partially square gourd.
Awesome feedback there.
Que pintura usas? Es pintura vitral?
Carmen, yo creo que si, pintura para hacer vitrales esta usando.
How much would you sell that gourd for usually?
I use to sell my gourds from $35 to $150 depending on amount of detail and where I was with my expertise. I have a lot of experience now and quality is my number one thing so you will find my art on the higher end of the scale now.
🎉💯🙏
Gourd videos
I just harvested mine, a little early I guess. I planted 4 gourds and ended up with 37 birdhouse gourds. I have more gordos than El Paso Texas has fat people.
This is a good video, except for the part where you advise viewers to burn over the top of the color. This is not a good practice, as the fumes from burning over the top of colors can create toxic fumes.
Are you wearing a mask while carving out the background?
Absolutely, a high quality mask that filters small particles and mold spores. I had to get several until I found the one that was comfortable for me.
It’s extremely difficult to wear these socks in a warm, humid climate.
