Hi All, The Boundary Waters has been my life's favorite place to be. My bro Brad and I have been many times. I fear that I have camped at Basswood Falls my last glorious night. 3 Years ago I was still in great shape and ready to breathe that air one more time. Sadly, it will not happen. A nasty little cancer called Multiple Myeloma has taken my health , my youth and my money. You know what fellow paddlers ? As long as my mind holds up nothing can take my memories.
I don't think I've got that seemingly uphill both ways ( LOL ) 300 rod portage a ways paddle from the Mudrow entry in me one more time. But with a little health luck and a whole lot of fight and medical talent maybe I can round up the health and the money and Brad and I can do one of those awesome sounding island cabin camps and see the B W one more time.
As I live on the South Texas Gulf Coast it is a roadie, for sure but so worth every mile of the trip. Wish me luck folks. I have spread tons of good Karma with this cancer thing so maybe your wishes and my spreading joy and hope to my fellow cancer patients will get me there that one last time. If not , then please Brad, mail my ashes up to Dabney in Ely, Mn. and ask him to have someone cast my ashes at Basswood. Take care of the place for me fellow Boundary Waters lovers. Brad and I always brought back more trash than we created. We always thought that was the least we could do for our Creator for giving us such a wonderful place experience , to breath and enjoy. Peace and love to all of you. And thank you Ely , Minnesota for always making this Texan feel at home. Always, Cary Butters
P.S. I would welcome any stories from you fellow trekkers so feel free to hit me at carybutters@gmail.com

After watching this video we booked our trip through Piragis for just after labor day. Very helpful staff, answered all our questions with great advice on routes. Can't wait!

I visit the Piragis store every year I go to Ely on my BWCA trip. QUALITY stuff there. I should have treated myself to that long handled hatchet this year.... :(

Going with my 2 grandsons in 2020 so am planning now and teaching them canoeing and camping basics. They will be 14 and 9 by the summer of 2020. I'm an experienced canoeist (Quebec and Ontario wilderness trips & ACA Moving Water Instructor).
    .
Also I'm a backpacker and we will be bringing all our own gear and food. We'll rent a canoe, paddles and PFDs from Piragis and make all reservations by late October, 2019. Looking forward to dealing with you folks. Your store customer service has been outstanding, as are your products.
As a former Nordis ski patroller and backcountry skier I would like to do a winter ski trip in the BWCA. I hope rental pulks are available.
**If you have any info on that let me know.

We have winter canvas tents, wood stoves, winter sleeping bags, skis, snowshoes and pulks available each winter camping season.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have all my light weight winter gear including solo tent and -20 F. down bag. Is there any way I could see a photo of your pulks?

Nice. But who would give this "thumbs down"? I don't get it.

@Steve G I’d give it a thumbs down because he hardly mentions that the rest of the space in the pack is for client’s personal gear (clothes, etc).

No wonder you need a canoe, sending people out with a bunch of in needed gear
