Granite Gear portage pack was the best I've ever had. Served me well on a 6000 km solo canoe trip (6 months) in 2004.
    Cheers from Thunder Bay Ontario

    " . . . 7,000 cubic foot . . . " Now that's a BIG pack.

It is bigger than my house. That would make it easier to pack for a trip I'd just put my house inside this bag, maybe even the neighbours house as well incase I was worried about forgetting something. And I'd still have room left over. I wonder how much it weighs with 7000 cubic feet of stuff though.

Love it, I need a big pack and I don't like normal hiking packs.

Why do manufacturers of portage packs even put "hip" belts on them. They all seem to fit across the waist (as seen in the video). A good pack (as you see in traditional backpacking packs) is meant to carry the load on your hips...not on the shoulder straps. Which means the hip belt needs to cinch down on your hips...not waist.

It does fit on the hips. The pack that Steve is showing here might not be fitted to him. My Superior One rests on my hips. Generally I don't use the hip belt, but if I know the portage is going to be tough and long I will buckle up. 125 lbs on the shoulders starts to hurt after about 20 minutes.

@@scottw1732 How long are your trips that you need to carry 125 lbs of stuff? or are you not ultralight focused, and carry also a lot of luxury camping gear?

EuropeanLegend the wood canvas canoe is 90-100 lbs and my personal pack is 25-35 lbs. However, now I am paddling a Kevlar canoe instead. My trips are at most 3 weeks long before I need a steak, a beer, and a comfy bed. I could go lighter with my gear but the Canadian wilderness is hard on ultralight gear.

Use your head, hes obviously not referring to that specific pack.... They have made those for over 20 years.
